Several familiar faces notable by their absence this morning at the toy fair. Here are my buys

And a few pics I took. Stellar got snapped up while I was looking the other way, but it was £25

Didnt have time to do the usual hunting this weekend. Ordered a couple of bits from that Chinese site though, stuff I won't have a cat in hell's chance of getting here without paying scalper prices. Looks like it's going to be a while till I get them though.

So, I've stuck to pissing about with stuff I've already got.

I turned my attention to the brown Escort. It was already sitting a bit better with the lower profile tyres on, but as Brucie himself used to say,

So, off came the baseplate, and some packing pieces were shoved under the axles,

Hmm, possibly a bit TOO low, but never mind. The way the wheels sit right inside the arches doesn't help, I think it could do with a set of those deep dish 3D printed wheels after all.

I got this decal sheel from K & R models, should be enough on there for what I wanted to do on this Escort and a few other cars.

So, with wanting to do this car as one of the types of boy racer Escort that were all over our town in the late '80s - early '90s, it got the dé rigeur rally sunstrip,

And some retro rally stickers,

Just ready to go skidding around the car park at Redcar Amusements in 1991 now.

It fills a gap in the Boy Racer shelf in the display unit, the majority were produced by Lledo and Corgi themselves. Just need to jazz up the Schabak XR2i a bit, '90s style. Maybe some tiger stripes to go with the Saph.,.

While I had the decal sheet out, I added a few to the 'saved from the scrap pile' Trofeu Mk1. I found a solitary bullet mirror in the spares stash, which kind of covers up where the original broke off. A couple of stickers enhance the '80s shitbox street racer vibe, just need to find something to make a big bore tailpipe from now.

Picked up these Super Chromes cheaply, I suppose they're a similar idea to Graffic Traffics - in fact there were even a series of chrome G/Ts.

Grabbed these two tidy Blackwalls

This one's the Maisto casting but sold as a Corgi ( Alarm Flashers?)

Didn't mind 50p for a Viking 911

Bigger buys were limited to another 2CV and a Dinky Transit at reasonable prices 

Lastly, this Corgi bearing my daughter's name

@AndyW201 If you've got any old ballpoint pens lurking about, try cutting a chunk off the inner section, that should be ideal for a big-bore at 1/43 scale!

Because that has a black plastic base it looks like it is a version of the Flying Colours made for the Wisconsin Toy Company.

Red thing I presume meant to be a Calibra but has lost its rear wing? I think I got these from the charity shop that does 4 for £1, but I don't know where the fourth one has gone.....

Master SL found the Mazda in Sainsbury's in Norwich. He got himeself one plus the 300ZX in the same range, but sadly no sign of the Skyline they also do. Remainder came fromanother Sainsbury's, where they also had Japanese Series Majorettes but (as has happened before) wouldn't sell them to me as the codes didn't scan. It was the end of a long day and I couldn't be bothered with the hassle of a debate about it, but since then I've wondered how do they even take them into stock if the code doesn't work?

Mercifully I had no such issue with these at Morrisons, didn't even need a More card to get them for half price at £7 a pack. The Nissan pickups were the main items of interest, but there are other goods ones in there too like the maroon Volvo and at least being Matchbox there aren't  load of fantasy cars. There were another couple of packs but nothing in them of sufficient interest to me.

Realtoy Calibra should have a rear spoiler like this one I found this morning

My red one has a cut down spoiler from one of those Metal Machines that they sell at Home Bargains

Rockets Capri was a nice upgrade over the one I've already got

Majorettes are what I came home with when I went looking for Mk2 Escorts

I stopped buying toy cars save for Christmas however it dawned on me that apart from a magazine and a few cans of beer a month I never buy myself anything.

I have developed a thing for old hot wheels - blackwall hot wheels were exotic when I was a child as it usually meant a trip out of Widnes to get them - thr shops in Widnes sold superfast / corgi juniors and majorette. Which was what I usually got.

Ford Torino - it's an 80's reissue as the original was metallic red - and expensive.

Yellow mirada stocker.

Gold mirada stocker.

Peugeot 505. In excellent shape.

Redline 230 SL. I only have a couple of redlines - RR silver shadow and plymouth barracuda - I really like them - even if the castings are a bit crude - but they are a bit too salty pricewise - even tatty ones are comparatively expensive compared to matchbox.

Catalogues were £2 each and £26 for the cars

Not sure that was a good price, but both Dinky Princess and Ovlov are more or less mint and the Fiat is complete and not bad. I've never heard of the Eligor BMW which is plastic.

£6 for these, I've been wanting another Lotus 11 to paint, but they are usually about £5 even as bad as this one

The Matchbox speedboat has a complete outboard motor which none of Mrs Concern's current ones do.

I don't remember seeing a Spot On Consul Classic and didn't really want one, but only held out for a few moments before paying £13 for this one.

I need to compare it to a Corgi one

My fave seller was there

Corgi Beach Buggy and early Solido Camaro were £3 each, Corgi Camaro, KS Charger, Dinky Escrote & Politoys Merc were £2 each with broken Norev plastic 4CV and Lone Star El Camino for free. After quite a long conversation with the seller where we both slagged off Spot Ons I bought the MGA & Floride for £4 each!

Beach buggy is very good and has the driver, which I've not seen before and Mrs Concern nabbed it obv.

Solido Camaro is also very nice with the early style wheels

MGA & Renna bother shite

However £4 each for Spot On-yes please!

Swedish mad next, I have bought a yellow 9-3 and an Inter Cars 900 Combi from this seller before

So I've been wanting an Inter Cars 144 for a while and another 9-3 which looks stunning in purple IRL and I always get C30s when I see them

Have I said I like opening bits@

I already have a King Size Cossie, but the body kit has gone yellow, not been brave enough to try bleaching it so picked this one up for £3 and the others £2 for the three, speed boat has a flag

Ford all complete but had to soak the price label off the windscreen

I'm not sure why I was attracted to the Vanguards Cavalier as it's far too model like, The Gama Astra has opening bits and is quite toyish and I love it. Dinky Vogue is very good apart from slight crack in screen. The Man From Uncle Olds just has spot lamps missing and I think I have some spare. Both Illya and Napoleon are present and go click as they should when the periscope is pressed. I paid £20 for the lot.

I love the Astra SRi!

I also bought a gold colour Oxford Firenza for £4, but cleverly left it there after a paid, hopefully the seller will remember when I next see him haha!

Lastly I saw a red plastic politoys Alfa Sprint like the white one I Roffled, I'd looked at it a few weeks ago and it was up for £15. I talked him down to £12

A bit dear as I paid £4 for the white one, although that had a broken bumper and this is mint

Hmm, maybe a wee bit over scale, but then again, some people are partial to a big pipe...

At least there's something there now.

With the recent additions, Escrap was looking a bit bare at the front, so another root around the spares box found a pair of spotlights with Ford logo'd covers that had long ago been part of a four-light bar from a Mk2  Cortina-Lotus. They give a bit of balance to the front now.

So, I think I can call this one finished now. (Completely finished some might say...). It's been a fun little easy project that at one point was looking at being binned before being boy raced.

A bit like most Mk1 Escorts 30 years ago...

Decided to try Dunton boot sale today, and it was just as big, and useless as ever. At least 50% market stalls, bought nothing except a pile of 70s car mags. As we had time we tried the park and ride boot sale, which was half empty. Bought nothing.

Went home and dug out more Juniors, Mercedes 240D this time

You were absolutely spot on about the steering on the Commer, it locks it in position when the arm is up
