Mine was indeed a Morris.  Even in Cyprus it was an unusual thing.

Tamiya Titanium Silver paint with Mr Hobby clearcoat over white primer, Dunlop alloy wheels and suitably old-looking tyres from a Tamiya Lotus Europa. Brown 'carpet' cut from imitation suede elbow patches....

50p bought this. On reflection a couple of quids worth of bits from Model Supplies might mean it’s worth fixing. Worse ones go for ten times as much!

Back in 2001 I blew a core plug in a Polo Ranger on the A12 about 15 minutes away from Colchester auctions where we’d given about a hundred quid for it 😆 stuck an engine in from a VW Derby that when we collected its body buckled under the ratchet straps it was that crusty… still make a good one and flogged it - all in company time 😇

Jacques Lafitte just rang, to wonder what on earth you've done to his Ligier JS11 !

I expect the mis-spelling of Gitanes cigarettes was intentional...

Finally, some 2025 Hot Wheels cases seem to be trickling through to this benighted portion of the planet - this B-case had dropped in my local Sainsbury's in the past day or two, to my great surprise. I thought they'd stopped stocking Mattel mainlines altogether.

Four months since this assortment's first appearance, and sadly it had already been picked over - but there were still a few left that were well worth having:

IMG_20250216_1629242.thumb.jpg.2da10ee91897a474675ac01e6ba08335.jpg

The R32 Skyline and the Treasure Hunt custom Jaguar MkX were somewhat hidden right at the back of the shelf and off to the side, behind some Paw Patrol stuff - so presumably someone had stashed them there to recover at a later stage.

They're gonna be disappointed.

I'd previously found the coffee 'n' cream Jag in Smyths just after Christmas, but the queue was insane so I put it back again. I've sort of been kicking myself ever since, so it's good to get a second chance. I'm not bothered about its Treasure Hunt status, I just think the wheels and the colour really suits it; better than the big-wheel versions I already have.

Of all the Skylines, the R32's probably my favourite - just nicely proportioned, and a bit understated. But, models of it seem to attract scalpers like nobody's business, so I wasn't going to let this one go. Pity there's not much detail to the front, though the rear lights and badging are well replicated.

I spent much of last year fruitlessly searching for a red Audi Quattro that wasn't in a ten-pack, but eventually found a black version in Lidl towards the end of the year. All well and good, but I do prefer proper colours and this metallic green- blue is just lovely.

Also of interest to me on the shelf were the white Proton Saga, the metallic blue '66 Buick Riviera, the brown-burgundy '94 Audi Avant RS2, the grey custom Mazda MX5 Miata (the Legends Tour version), and the black Art Cars series DeLorean with the pink windows (bit on the fence about that one, tbh) - but at £2.40 each these are some of the priciest mainlines around, and I'd feel like a dope if I were to spend a small fortune on them only to find that Poundland or Home Bargains were now knocking out their B-case models for £1.50 a go.

With any luck, some Cand D-cases might land before long.

Speaking of spending a small fortune...

Some finds were made in The Entertainer on Friday.

IMG_20250214_2234044.thumb.jpg.e81cfdc233a661f50bfddd857665725a.jpg

I did actually emit a small squeak when I saw this Car Culture Premiums Subaru Forester just chilling on the peg. I've been looking for this once since last year too; goodness knows how it turned up in central Belfast a few months down the line but I wasn't going to pass it up.

Better yet, it had 20% off the usual £8.99 price, making it slightly more palatable.

I've been dithering about this Team Transports Toyota 4Runner and Supra combi since before Christmas too.

Other than the daft hood over the trailer (which was easily removed) I really like this.

With the typically speedy  turnaround on these sets, it was sort of a now or never situation if I wanted one... And I buckled.

But it is good.

I also scored a few other items:

IMG_20250214_2234045.thumb.jpg.a2639073a2f0e60b64e02ad6411afb2c.jpg

The BMW cop car and VW Golf GTi from the Germany series were from The Entertainer also; the green Alfa Tonale is here because I misread the price tags (it was a 3 for 2 offer, not Buy 1 Get 1 Half Price like the Tescotainer mainlines usually are) and so I grabbed this after the cashier said I could pick another 'free' car.

The blue Jeep Avenger in the Matchbox Power Grabs box is an odd one - I found this sitting all by itself on a shelf in the Ann St branch of Poundland, under the Mattel pegs. I've never seen these Power Grab versions in Poundland - I'm in this branch nearly every week, and there definitely haven't been any in here before. It's a 2024 release, so not even some sort of old stock (the Matchbox blister pack models in this store are still mainly from the 2023 range).

I began to wonder if someone had bought it somewhere else like The Entertainer and then dropped it in here by accident - but no, it scanned at the tills alright, and for only £1 - half the price of their usual Matchbox range.

Very weird.
