Does anyone else have irrational ideas of buying specific diecast? I've seen a model which is pretty poor quality, Hong Kong made but very unusual and likely early 1980s. It's also had a terrible paint job which needs removing and starting again. Thing is, I really fancy it for the collection! It would stand me in around a tenner if I bought it - there are no other watchers and 99.9% of the rest of the population would lob it in the bin.

I'm trying hard to avoid buying the damn thing!

If so  then yes you have a point .

Yep, that's the second release of the same casting in Denim Blue. The headlights are better on this than the red one.

Yes, I do. Probably in a slightly different way for me, but I tend to not be very good at avoiding buying them! Usually if it’s something I really like/want I’ll tell myself ‘No!’ Then keep looking at it over the coming hours/days and eventually give in and just buy it.

I think sometimes you do just need to concede defeat, cut out the middle man and just do it! You know your going to eventually anyway…😆

What is it? You’ve piqued my interest now!

Me too.  Perhaps fortunately for me, most things that make it onto my ebay watch list run away beyond my tiny budget anyway.  If they didn't, I really would need a bigger house!  (What, like I don't already???)

Didn't look specifically. I was pondering whether I could haggle much off a really tidy blue Corgi Toronado that was £15, if that gives you an idea

I got most of those Matchbox photographed yesterday, with a battery recharge needed towards the end! Most are not especially rare but are in lovely condition. Rather than showing 150+ pictures, I thought I'd just show some of the more unusual ones

It's not a bad effort for such a small scale but something about it doesn't look quite right to my eyes. It seems a bit top heavy so perhaps the glasshouse is a tad too big and the wheels too tucked under. Compared with the 3D print the windscreen especially is a lot bigger and my memory of Metros is of the screen being quite small.

For reference this is the actual car the red OD Mini is based on. I think the wheels are ok, the launch car had  narrow 12" wheels, not the 13" ones most later versions had. The glasshouse is a bit big, but actually not miles out, they did have tall slab sides like many 80s hatchbacks. The lights are an interesting example of not looking how I remembered because some specs had recessed headlights and separate side and indicator units (like that one does) and others had flush headlights with the indicators to the sides.

Looks like a Majorette Deluxe release of a Rolls Royce Corniche II - I had one in a sort of gold-beige colour. Plastic body on a diecast base, if memory serves?

Good find for 50p - even has its display dome.

That's right, it was a trim-level thing.  Upper spec = flush lights.  Those were the days, when 12" wheels were enough on a small family hatchback!

When I was very little, my mum and dad chopped in their Triumph Toledo (in British Leyland Racing Brown no less!) for a  black 1.0 Mini Metro as our family car. I don't remember much about it apart from painfully trapping my toe in the folding seat mechanism and my dad doing handbrake turns in the carpark when it snowed (most unlike my dad). Knowing my mum and dad it was either base spec or slightly above.

I love that!  I had a brown Toledo, followed many years later by a black Metro 1.0L.

It had a space for a cap gun pellet, when it crashed it made an airbag going off sounding noise.

I’d love a good 1:43 Metro, if someone did one.

My grandad had a Y reg one in that brownish reddish metallic colour with a beige interior as his last car. One day he came out to find it sat at a bizarre angle on the drive! The subframe had collapsed overnight!! That was the end of both the car and his driving career as it just wasn’t worth fixing by then. It did survive a few more years though as he pushed it back against the garage door to hold that shut! Eventually it was dragged off to finish its days at Balby motor spares in Doncaster.
My cousin had an early MG Metro in black too, my uncle used to spend many many many… many hours welding that thing up!😄

And our next door neighbour had a C reg van in beige for his painting & decorating business. He had it years and it gradually went from practically mint to an absolutely rotten bag of crap in the time he had it. Replaced by a C reg Escort!

Here's another of the 3D printed Metros I've just finished. G438 YKV was a 1.3 GS that was my late paternal grandad's last car before he gave up driving. Five doors and the facelift grille so quite different from the Oxford version.

I'm not really sure whether to put this in the Truck Shite thread or here but based on the fact that Dan shows us his cracking truck projects I chose here.

First up is this 1/25 EMEK Scania R520 which I got from Marketplace locally for a tenner. The seller used to work at Scania which is pretty much only where you could get these back in the day, other than a wee shop called Leisuretime in Falkirk (now just dust in the wind). It's mint apart from missing mirrors. I have an older Scania plus an FL10 Volvo to keep it company.

20241105_213337.thumb.jpg.2f27b66ba3f474b5928a2301bac1a8ae.jpg

Second is this. Spurred on by the work that goes on with diecast and model kits, I bought another Italeri 1/24 lorry kit from Hobbycraft a couple of months ago. Quite steep at £60 for a lump of plastic but the ones I bought in the 90s were about £25-30 so I guess that's still relative.

It took me ages due to limited spare time but it's nearly done, just a few touch ins to the spray paint job (Poundland gold!). The fit of these Italeri models is poor in some places, especially the cab panels which had to be built onto the interior rather than as a separate shell, which could be fettled and painted as one.

Overall it's turned out well though, I'm getting a Volvo F10 for Christmas!

I thought that colour looked familiar. Here's a much smaller truck in the same Poundland gold, an Oxford Diecast Scania stretched into a 6x4.
