More painting and piss ballsing about today.

Firstly, that BMC FFK I converted to a tanker. I wasn’t going to paint it, the plan was to just remove the Spanish decals and leave it more or less as it was, but I’ve done a few red and white vehicles lately so decided to change this one…

It’s only loosely assembled here and still more to do, but I like it! Vauxhall mustard yellow over Leyland russet brown. The tanker fillers will be black or maybe silver yet.

Next up, the Chrysler Avenger. Quite a simple one to do this!

IMG_5321.jpeg.42718528efa78fc30f8a322f74c72be9.jpeg

And the Cortina. Done as the 1.6 Crusader I nearly bought some years ago but stupidly didn’t for reasons I still can’t fathom.

Its interesting (if your a sad bastard like me) that when you do things like these models you start noticing slight detail differences in cars. The Cortina for example, some seem to have the B/C pillar in between the windows in black yet others it’s body colour.

Shopping trip finds. Hot Wheels mainline situation as grim as ever, but Entertainer at Tesco had another fresh (old) case. Sadly, here it seems to be the same score as the main Entertainer store in the town where anything decent gets plucked out of the box before it has a chance to get on the pegs. Did salvage this though,

IMG_20240802_153120.jpg.93c3dceb893c376aab9e88c1a2d27b9b.jpg

Which I was happy about as this is one of my favoutite castings. This generation of Cougar is a very pretty thing.

To make up the BOGOHP deal, I also found this at the bottom behind all the remaining  fantasy shit. I do like these Pajeros too,

IMG_20240802_153422.jpg.9fe14d46a880fca010b82ed60ba1a297.jpg

B&M had these F&F semi premium things in, I think these have been shown on here before, but I was glad to find anything fairly 'new',

IMG_20240802_153441.jpg.1f48aacb3cef9c949c2118e548bf5a48.jpg

This generation of Chevelle is also a really nice looking car,

IMG_20240802_153705.jpg.76fc929d4b4ffdef5cfa1635692dcf26.jpg

A nice change from the F&F  Chevy Nova that has been done to death now by Hot Wheels,

IMG_20240802_153532.jpg.ce3b3b2ed9bbdd845f04f49b87caa832.jpg

Being a semi premium means some very nice rear detail, which makes a change from most Hot Wheels 60s-70s yanks being just one big slab of chrome at the rear. Interesting that this is the only one of the set with a metal base, so it feels somewhat heavier than the others.

IMG_20240802_153808_edit_74138664436718.jpg.c1a07abcc7a2aaa719746097cb4c2e7d.jpg

IMG_20240802_153842.jpg.fa2bee2b305e05db561b6b5dd238ad3b.jpg

A nice rendering of a Charger, quite subtle and factory-looking  (apart from the wheels) compared to other F&F Chargers.

IMG_20240802_154241.jpg.3d37939543dd7a3398a78aff4b513445.jpg

I was pleased to get this one, it was one I wasnt aware of in this set and usually, the JDM models in these F&F sets are the first to get scalped

IMG_20240802_154311_edit_74168682130717.jpg.f6bbb5981c02e8218ad619f22f9d5694.jpg

And lastly, this one,

IMG_20240802_154119.jpg.b1b85ef2f7b9dcd5c7d76c5ebcd4ffd8.jpgAn interesting addition, and pretty well done for a cheap-ish toy. I think. The 'patina' is captured well.

IMG_20240802_154132.jpg.61dda3282fe400fe4e0640dca3b88852.jpg

I think this one ties in well with the earlier discussion about how crazy some Mattel castings seem, as what else could they do with this one? Apart from a cheapened mainline or a more expensive Premium with Real Rider wheels and a bit of detail in the engine bay, perhaps. But its a nice piece all the same.

IMG_20240802_154146.jpg.7b043346f4efc492e9b2c58953f0b7bb.jpg

Strangely, the 5th one in the collection, the snappily named 'W Motors Lykan Hypersport' was absent from the pegs. Mega expensive supercars arent really my bag anyway, so not too much of a biggie. Not like I'm a completist anyway,,,

Today's postal delivery was this,

IMG_20240803_123821.jpg.6dc1209774d90e1d5092943b6499978f.jpg

Dan's already covered this one, so I'll not plaster this post with pics. It's been a long wait for a RHD UK market Mk2 Capri in 1/43 scale and then in the same month, we get both a wide and standard bodied version. I loved the orange X-pack version, and I do like this Ghia one too. It's not gone down too well among "serious" Vanguards collectors like,  but meh! Main criticism has been the lack of door or wing mirrors. Considering the real car it's modelled on has never had them either, we cant really blame Corgi for that...

IMG_20240803_123848.jpg.6f380b50e4efa6ea6ad2f1759d3d4d47.jpg

More criticism has been about the wheels ("grumble, moan - too shiny, too dished"). Yeah, they've obviously tried to replicate the optional diamond cut/contrasting dark grey finish as on the wheels on the real car but gone a bit too shiny. And yeah, they are a bit 'dishy' and the tyres a bit narrow and low profile, but IMO, they're still more convincing as a Ghia/S type alloy than Corgi's previous attempt,

IMG_20231226_001234.jpg.8d7c286b3b2406a8cd1bcb268f59b5f5.jpg

IMG_20240803_123858.jpg.2fed0db2f51d7300ba46a51e48858a38.jpg

Generally though, the detailing is a delight,

IMG_20240803_123928.jpg.92e633f3168dcb62785494a54acf63d6.jpg

Especially the rear badging. Extra points for getting the number plate font like the one on the real car,

DSC02154.JPG.jpg.7e037845fa0cd0ead6a0a1c14ef7f8cf.jpg

IMG_20240803_124110.jpg.cf82eeb3a5def5344c5bb4df66698c52.jpg

Interior has the correct  Ghia seats with the headrests that slide down into the seat back.

So at last, the Ford shelf in the display cabinet has a Mk2 to sit with the Mk1 and the Professionals Mk3s. Took some deciding whether to put this or the X-pack in there, but figured this one was a good match for the similarly orange-wth-vinyl roof Mk1. (Yeah, and you lot think YOU'RE sad...😆)

I've been having trouble sleeping recently so I went to have a look at the old diecast.

I have just noticed that the Corgi Juniors Mercedes 190e, Volvo 760 and Jaguar XJ6 all share the same generic interior.

These castings which were released in about 1988 are much more basic, but nonetheless still as pleasing, as earlier releases. Compared to, for example, a Sierra, Escort or Metro, they have plain bases (I bet that's a generic item too but haven't measured) and no opening features. The Volvo and Mercedes do have plastic headlamp lenses though and all 3 have nice vanity plates.

Just these three from yesterday's boot sale, happy with them at one Euro each:

Haven't seen many Majorettes done like the Firebird. 205 is suffering with a snapped rollbar and slightly collapsed suspension, but is otherwise tidy. Land Cruiser my favourite of them, I have several other versions but this black one is new to me.

Majorettes are fantastic. I’ve given some of my old ones to my son. They all have working suspension, opening doors or bonnet, tow bar, good details etc. fabulous.

The same goes for me but this morning I woke early and went to my first car boot in ages. A waste of time really as most of the stuff was utter crap! I did find a stall selling die-cast for 5p each so I picked out 30. Some for the sheer comedy value 😂

Went to pharmacy with Mrs Star to pick up some alcohol spray and they had these

IMG_4382.jpeg.38cd634d1ce3f83289e5e1493076b7a5.jpeg

I couldn’t resist picking one up, and was very happy seeing them. Unpacked, saw that Stratos was a possibility but didn’t get too bummed out. Went to a shop, Mrs Star went to pick up some fruit in a shop next door and came back with another one for me to try for Stratos. 😄

So what did I get then?

No Stratos unfortunately.
I’m wondering what is RD-05 based on though?

The bags are numbered so you can work out the contents, hidden under the seam at the back

Thanks! I’ll check if they have Stratos later today. In all honesty, it would be more exciting if they weren’t numbered.

I had a low spec white 205 as a company car once, just like this one.

To get the GTi look...

peugeot-205-gti-1988.jpg

...I stuck some black insulating tape on the door B-pillar.

The black pillar thing was always reserved for the sportier models in a cars range to try and give them a longer more aesthetically appealing look.
