This morning's boot sale finds. Hayden the young lad swiped a couple of big boxes of Dinky and Matchbox apparently so I need to have a look through those!

I did the headlights in metallic aluminium to make them slightly different in colour to the metallic silver trims. It’s a pity they didn’t give these jewels.

What about drilling some counter sinks into the headlamps and putting a couple of jewels in. Maybe an idea for the next project.

Great work as always.

Cheers!

Thats an idea. I won’t try it on this one though, I don’t want to risk ruining the paint!

This one is on hold, again, now… fu**ing house move!! I picked up the tray I put all the parts in when disassembling it only to find - no tyres.
I have a bag full of Mini size tyres to fit. Which of course are now packed in a box somewhere to move…

This is really getting on my last nerve now! I’ve just ordered another set so I can finish it but it means waiting for them to arrive.
What pisses me off even more is the fact everything is packed ready to go and yet, still, Im waiting. Nearly two years now! Absolutely ridiculous. We’re at the point now where the top end of the chain is ready to go and the buyer of our place is waiting, still, on some commercial lending crap to come through on their sale. Of course it’s practically radio silence from their solicitor and nobody can easily get in touch with them. Make of that what you will.

The whole moving process in this country is in dire need of sorting out and there needs to be a regulator and set of strict standards and time scales put in place. It’s becoming a sick joke.

Decided to get on with some painting of bumpers, bright trim etc on a few others this afternoon but also cracked on with the MAN heavy haul tractor unit.

IMG_4694.jpeg.788cc7ad62b78c05dbbaca3faeedc0a7.jpeg

Just waiting for glue to set now.
Cab windows all refitted, the screen was a shit bag to get back in but got it in the end. Needs a few touch ups of the black window surrounds in a few places where pushing the windows back in chipped it but not totally unexpected given how tight they are.
When I’m building things back up I usually do a dry run first to see how it fits and how it looks before going further. In this case the cab is quite big and easy to see into which showed up the red paint & overspray inside on the back wall and roof interior, so I’ve painted them with some beige Humbrol I had lying around. Should just look like a trimmed interior now.

Once it’s all dry the interior moulding can be fitted into the cab, then the cab screwed back onto the chassis. Then final bits and pieces like air intake, mirrors etc refitted.

The grill might take a bit of thought though. Originally this truck was the RABA version of this truck, and the grill has that badge on. Unfortunately it’s not removable so I’m probably going to have to make a new grill and make the MAN badge myself.

Also test fitted a set of wheels I got off eBay onto a mk1 Capri I’ve re sprayed, which look just the job so they’ve been painted and just sat drying. That one is almost ready to be put back together now too.

With a little help from Signor Moretti (quite by coincidence, but it was appropriate), I finally got the Fiat finished:

I'm pretty pleased with how it turned, given what I started with. Will get better pic's up tomorrow, but in the meantime imagine it howling around Alpine roads with this pair:

You're not alone, Iain.  It's much the same here in the bottom-left corner of the Lakes.

Round here the car boots are terrible, it’s buying the cast offs of a man of straw. When I go down south to my old man’s the car boots are pretty good there for diecast.

Talking of MAN trucks, this turned up in one of the boxes in the spare room today.

In 1/50th scale by Conrad.

Evening all. You might remember this K-17 Dyson Low Loader I pulled out of a tin full of bits last weekend

Well I've been thinking about it, and as far as I can make out, it was never made in these colours. All the rivets (bar the one connecting the tractor to the trailer) appear to be original and unmolested

PXL_20240528_171926660.jpg.f1c8c19867e14ef0915266197c885dc4.jpgPXL_20240528_171714651.jpg.aa79faaf5e2cf9a80f6a3f081a0a9a7c.jpgPXL_20240528_171704288.jpg.77f414e7a9374aeb822e7814c51015fb.jpgPXL_20240528_171709124.jpg.c09b7d3a556d4597ed4625c4b71bd0d6.jpg

PXL_20240528_171633082.jpg.78a62dc5b8ecc34f4d51b23db7f6a83e.jpg

Taking of which, the roof light is blue, rather than the usual red.

So what is this? There's a known all lime green pre-pro with a number of examples out there, is this a colour trial? Some employee's lunchbreak special? I don't know, but I think I'll hang onto it for now. The colours, especially that darker yellow on the cab, look tantalisingly familiar, I'm sure there's something else in that hue.

Can’t say I’ve ever seen one in that colour.
Could it be from a set or pack? Especially considering it’s a very late wheel example. Something similar maybe to the blue Leyland tipper?

Do the rivets not look like they’ve been painted?

I wonder if it could be what the antique chappies call a marriage: cab from one issue, trailer from another.  With their original partners missing, these two have been thrown together.  Perhaps?  They're in nice condition though, which suggests a fairly soft life so far.

Finished (almost anyway!) the Del Prado mk1 Capri today.
The definitive 1:43 Capri? No. But considering you can pick them up easily and cheaply I don’t think you can go wrong tbh. Strip off that dull boring grey paint and put something a bit livelier on and it’s fine.
Wheels are some white metal replacements painted up. They’re the deep dish dartboard steels.
I need to put the white metal centre caps on yet, then repaint the original rear lights as they don’t look the best as they come.

IMG_4698.jpeg.c5ba7e6bc786e15d400fbc64fced614e.jpeg

You can see the wheels the model comes with here.

IMG_4701.jpeg.3f32522c2763fb89ceaaa9acde4e5ee8.jpeg

Started putting the Chevy Nova back together too… notice the wheels!
The ones this model comes with are too big imho, they’re more like pickup truck size. So I wanted something a bit smaller and the above Capri’s spare wheels look alright to me.
I might paint them all silver or all black yet?
There’s still a few bits to put back on tomorrow but glue on the glazing and bumpers needs to dry first.

IMG_4711.jpeg.b882e1508cc155450538755a2c5de534.jpeg

MAN tractor is getting close now too.
Just the mirrors to refit then make a new grill.
Air hoses for the trailer need adjustment to align with the trailer better too.

IMG_4707.jpeg.b3ab99d72dada851117008ac3d2eddcd.jpeg

I might do a bit of detailing to the trailer yet. Definitely want to remove those side boards on the front end.
