Very nice! That’s a nice green for the Herald.

You’re right though, it’s damn cold outside at the moment. I went out and did some bits and came back in not long after to sit next to the radiator! Sod it!

That's the Herald you sent me, that had no front axle.  The green and white on it wasn't bad, but not brilliant either.  I think it'll look really well when it's reassembled.

I remember it now! Didn’t it have some extra stickers on it too? Numbers if I remember right.

Yes it did.  I wasn't able to salvage any but I wasn't intending to use them anyway.  It's going back to civilian life!

Brilliant!

You could do with one of those bulldog clamps/paperwork clamp things, nail or screw it to one of the bits of wood and then use it to hold smaller parts while you paint. It’d be ideal for holding that Transit door by its hinge while you spray both sides, and it can dry on the holder too then.

Funnily enough, I did encounter the Harley version of the HiLux at the market a very long time ago - but it was a bit scruffy, and I thought the chrome-effect windows looked a bit naff, so I left it.

My Dinky resto needs the NSR door card in red.

Talking of red - Javelin is indeed a rarity from a two pack, along with the Golf

I would need to check, but I think I have a NSR repro door card spare for Dinky Zodiac as I bought a pair of them at a toy fair.

Looking at this I need the OSR

Toy fairs reportage......

Fired-up the trusty Carina E and headed down to Ipswich. No gaps filled in the MIB-ish Superfast collection, but a good day for interesting randoms at decent prices. Quite a few 50p/£1/£1.50 tat boxes to rummage through.

IMG_9627.thumb.JPG.f3fa5d62dc50068cc89094c2c9f5602e.JPG

Pleased to find an older boxed Tomica at < £10.

IMG_9625.thumb.JPG.03c3cc0e7974eb1b9f6cada254fa1e12.JPG

More small ones. Seller of the Dinky Celica St. [sic] had a few others in the range, none of them Japanese though (and I already have the Accord). HW Datsun Z from the 1980s? I thought the Rolls was a Matchbox in a different colour until I got home and saw it was by Maisto.

IMG_9623.thumb.JPG.5a71f24e1e1ffa3132ceedc11a39ac28.JPG

Majorettes. Toyota Lite Ace probably my favourite find of the day, but also good to get the Alfa 75. 604 and caravan weren't hitched-up on the stand, but surely they came as a pack in the co-ordinating colours?

Land Cruiser and boat combo was bought with the possibility it may be of interest to the wife of someone on here.....

IMG_9630.thumb.JPG.542ec4d470c93e300de671995a87878c.JPG

Already have another boxed Sierra, one or the other may be of interest to @RoadworkUK? Have several other Elites but not this dark blue one which was inexpensive and tidy. Welly Corrado of interest to you @bunglebus?

IMG_9632.thumb.JPG.d0410c59b4040b5c3005f217d0789050.JPG

I try not to get too much in the way of Superkings, but this was offered to me at a tempting price when I bought some other stuff and I liked the fact that the covers and almost all of the bits and bobs were still there (just missing one pallet).

IMG_9619.thumb.JPG.d89bd80517db2570cd8eaadc9e11c64c.JPG

It's rare I can find any kits I want at these affairs, but one chap had a few cars amongst the planes etc and at £18 for a complete, unstarted copy of this nicely detailed Jaguar I couldn't resist. Would be nice to find/get 3D printed some steel wheels and recreate this one my Granny had in the '70s:

1962/63 Jaguar Mark 2, mid-late 1970s

Could have spent more time and money at both fairs, but had other things to do.

Did manage to squeeze in a visit to one or two shops as I was driving around. Nothing of interest in Asda, but found the Neon Speeder GT-R in Smyths (and had a chat there with a guy I know through work, who I didn't realise also buys HWs). Matchbox pair came from Tesco.

All in all a good trip out, now got to find where to store/display it all....

Boring stuff today for me.
Paint on the AEC is just being left for a while to fully harden off before I start arsing around with it anymore.

D series, chassis has had the chemical metal putty added over the cut line under the chassis. I’ve shaped it to look like the gearbox/bell housing. It’s also covering one of the exposed screws that hold it all together which is a bonus!
Mixer body unit and mud guards are drying off having just been wet flatted down. Cab is being painted in white primer and currently drying off.

In between these projects I’ve been having a look through other vehicles for the next one to do.
I had an idea for one I wanted to do ages back but doing the recent FG recovery truck conversion left me with some unused parts available which should make it much easier.

A while ago I got one of the Spanish commercial vehicle partwork Transit ‘smiley’ vans.

IMG_3667.thumb.jpeg.00e54014cdcf4cda26c001952d6f6a24.jpeg

Nice as it is as a box van, I decided it’d make a great body swap for a tipper version!
So off with the box.

IMG_3753.thumb.jpeg.280c996c1bb67168a2d158a071274a11.jpeg

IMG_3754.thumb.jpeg.4665cd5c32e368b76e4a11872b25222a.jpeg

And now I conveniently have a spare leftover tipper body from the FG! Saves making one from scratch.
It’s all just a loose mock up so far but the tipper body actually fits the Transit perfectly. Width is spot on, length I think is fine but depending how it fits up properly later I may cut it down slightly so the end door of the tipper is closer to the rear axle.
It’ll need the ends of the chassis cutting down a touch, and the cab’s mounting post is fouling the end of the tippers frame so I’ll have to do some filing down on those to get them to sit closer together.

IMG_3748.thumb.jpeg.f937dd897f67b209b1c2d439448c87cf.jpeg

IMG_3749.thumb.jpeg.53edf65894d149d17dd5e236ac696b80.jpeg

IMG_3750.thumb.jpeg.cd79caca22eef78ba801a2bd0f322ae3.jpeg

As it is in the above pics the original tipper screw mounting pegs are making it sit too high on the Transit chassis so I’ll have to sort that out and come up with a new way of fitting them together, be it with screws again or just some glue… whichever.
With a bit of moving it around though here’s how it almost fits properly!
I might also thin the tippers bottom frame to lower the tipper closer to the wheel arches. Closing the gap a bit will look better.

IMG_3751.thumb.jpeg.06e9f0f04035e18cb1bbe381269f4b3f.jpeg

I think this is a pretty nice model of the ‘smiley’ Transit as it is really, but I’ll file off the cast grill on the wing (fitted on air con equipped vans) as in our shitty country we didn’t have many A/C versions! Then just swap the interior over to rhd. Then a paint job to look like a council owned truck! Although, I do quite like the white and yellow cab!

Something like this

P171 WWX

I love the smiley Transit’s! Imho they’re still the best van or small truck you can get! Absolutely indestructible mechanically, it’s just body rot that’s the killer.
I’ve owned two myself, an N reg 120 swb van - ex council van, white with red stripe. and a V reg 190 lwb semi high roof van, all over white. Both 2.5 diesels and I never had trouble with either of them. I had use of a lime green R reg 190 lwb semi high roof van at my last work too which was an absolute beast being the turbo diesel version.

I like these models too, pity they don’t have the van version (yet??) in their range but these will do nicely. In fact I like them so much I have 4 of them now!!😆

Oh and a couple of the later re-released Johnny Lightning Bug Bombs.

A nice haul there!

I love those plastic Norevs and that 104 is super!

I like that Carrado even though I suppose it's a pull back (is it Welly?)

I'm never sure about SuperKings as the scale can be almost anything, but that truck is really nice too.

By the way Mrs Concern spotted the Land Cruiser and boat over my shoulder and was very interested!
