Choice and affordability? Either 1/64 or 1/43 scale I'd say

I'd echo the above, just be aware that some 1/43s can be quite expensive. Yer man above should be able to show you where to get them cheaper, plus Mr Lobster of this parish also has lots available at a good price.

Matchbox fetch stupid prices on eBay, boxes of battered, good for the Bin stuff fetching £30-40.

Apart from car boot anyone got any good sources?

An impulse buy occurred.

It is, of course, the Sun Star 1/12 Minor Million.

It's quite delightful. Features working wind up windows, opening quarter lights, carpeting, opening glove boxes, fold down sun visors, folding seats... oh, and of course the trafficators flip out.

It is also enormous! Here it is parked next to a 1/18 for scale:

But wait, we can go deeper...

Yes, that bag contains an absolutely tiny wheel brace, jack and tools. The paint finish is excellent, as is most of the detail work. If you were the customising type, you could go nuts on this thing. At this scale, I think it should have a bit of weathering to look 'real'.

One disappointment - the driver's door doesn't close (you can see in the last photo), but this must be fixable.

That is superb.  Is the underside similarly impressive?

Not really! It's detailed, but plainly. I suppose there isn't all that much underneath a Minor. The engine bay is very good, and the hinges are the actual hinges, if you know what I mean.

Oof!

I usually install those micro magnets to keep doors shut on large scale models.

I think the hinge is installed wrong. The door isn't failing to stay in its hole, it's twisted.

Send it back.

Hmm... That RT has an RM registration. I know LT and Aldenham Works were a law unto themselves where registrations were concerned (I think it's called ringing if any of us tried it) but I don't think they were quite this bad!

I know I say eBay is a rip off but I couldn't say no to this for 10p and a quid postage. I prefer the earlier examples with narrower wheels and correctly sized arches but for the price of a packet of Space Raiders, I can live with it!

I think this is the same model where early examples were lettered 'London Toransport' (sic) to avoid copyright issues so accuracy obviously wasn't their strong point.

And yes, the 1/12 Minor is a thing of beauty. I know someone who owns one and I spent quite some time fiddling with the various working bits. Far too big for me though, I'd have no room for it.

Agreed, extra- large models of a scale in excess of 1/18 always end up being a bit of a white elephant for me, getting passed from place to place as they don't fit in. The only exception is the 1/12 early BX I bought from Vantman of this land, due to its exceptional awesomeness.

Blew £6 on this lot today, someone had obviously cleared an attic out. You could just about see the base of shoes when I discovered this lot in a box...

I love a bulk-buy!  That orange Lesney trailer is lovely, I think I may still have mine somewhere.  Tell us more about the little garage?

It's a Matchbox Major garage, doors missing but you can get these reproduction.

Spotted today in a junk shop antiques centre; it's only the much sought-after No.3 Tissue Machine Larkfield Mill 1964-1994 gift set, innit!

It'll probably be a fair while before I get around to updating my usual Spottings thread with this year's holiday stuff, and TBH these photos will probably be of (marginally) more interest here:

These were all at the Renault garage I stopped at and where the owner kindly let me wander around and take photos. Great to see someone so interested in what he does for a living.

Have been trying to find old Majorette etc at various sales and markets we've been to, but no luck so far. New stuff in the supermarkets doesn't excite me and I've yet to find a proper toy or model shop.

GLWTS.

They are few and far between. Get yourself a model car magazine, the shops advertise in them.

Some magazines even contain a list of shops sorted by area, a not unimportant thing in a country

the size of a planet. Then rock up at the shops of your choice and find them closed. Guaranteed.

Reminds me of when I went to Spain a few years back.I was wandering round an outdoor market & came across a stall with a load of old diecast in plastic boxes.I started looking through, only to get disappointed. The stall was run by a couple of English guys,& it was mainly Corgi & Matchbox stuff. The only thing I bought was a Siku VW  :-o

Escort 55 Van by Corgi, £3.50 delivered it cost me from EBay. It looks to me that it was a seconds from the factory as the Hubcap wasn't finished properly. Came in the box as well! At that price you can't go wrong!

I think they might still have some left.

The SD1 looks great, the Volvo I'm not quite sure about - it's much better than the photos I've seen but I think the A-pillars are too thick. I therefore submit it to the SVM for approval.

I have done something slightly different, I've gone and ordered one of those partwork 1/43 scale AEC RT buses, which is an Ixo casting, will see what it is like when it arrives at Felly Towers

£5 never left my hand so quick at the weekend, at a village fete in the back of beyonds in Somerset yielded this, they were on at 50p a piece, offered a £5 for the lot. Some of its battered as hell but some right finds, especially the Polistil Fiat 128 or the Lancia Fulvia.
