Here’s a few more 1:43’s that turned up over the last few days.

BMC/Leyland FG tipper. I love this! Such cool trucks. Tipper body sides are a bit plasticky but doesn’t really let it down too much.

IMG_2965.thumb.jpeg.121567e6c985e44cc1069368d620b92c.jpeg

Early Renault Trafic panel van. This was in a completely unmarked blister packet, but I’m 99% sure it’s from my favourite Argentina collection.

IMG_2968.thumb.jpeg.3aa3909fed3573ec2165f23eb860eafc.jpeg

Pair of mk1 Capri’s. Very cheap and looked pretty good so seemed rude not to pick up a couple for repaints! They’d been sat around for some time by the look of them, boxes were thick with dust.

IMG_2970.thumb.jpeg.7288b3031b39aa00f8dc09c9535d4446.jpeg

Mk1 Astra, from the Opel collection.

Chevy Chevelle from the Mexico collection I think. Probably the least desirable version of the Chevelle but I like it!

I love the Renault as well and the BMC truck is one I used to see all the time as a kid, I found those windows in the front panel fascinating!

Just noticed the Astra, that’s really nice!

I think the Renner Trafic is an early diesel version with the big sticking out grill?
BMC, Eddy told me they were nicknamed ‘threp’ny bit’ trucks. I think the little windows on the cab corners were to help the driver see the curb when doing deliveries and such.
I used to play with a school friend as kids in one of the Leyland FG versions, an ex British Rail mobile workshop truck that was abandoned in the corner of a field. It’s still there now believe it or not. I’d love to drag it out and restore it!

We had two ex-BT ones as our scout transport, one after the other. Nothing wrong with a load of ten year old kids rattling around loose in the back eh?

I was also fascinated with those windows, and curved windows in general like 23 window VWs and Bedford CF Dormobiles

Being my favourite truck, I've been through a few FGs before I found one I liked. As well as a resin 1/76 example from Hong Kong Model Co that I got 20 years ago from a site called 'Ryanbus.com', I bought that yellow 1/43 example from Jumajo a couple of years ago.

It's pretty much a perfect model, save for both windscreen wipers sweeping the same way instead of 'clap-hands', slightly different engine cover, an extra slat in the front grille. The subject is also not actually a Leyland FG but a Spanish built SAVA-BMC.

I actually asked why the cars are bagged, as there were some I'd buy if they were loose - apparently they get stolen otherwise

Still not paying a tenner a bag, even if there are "about £30 worth" in each one

Could you undo the bags and put all the ones you want into one bag 😁

I did have that thought but being as the woman just walked off as I was still talking to her, I didn't think she'd agree. I used to chat to one of the volunteers in there and see her at the boot sale from time to time, but I think she's left

Bullshit they’d get stolen! Why do people have to talk bullshit like that in these shops? I’d call them out 🤣

Apparently SAVA built them under licence (along with the J4) in Spain. Similarly, some Commer models were built by Santana Motors in Spain, including the Walkthrough van. Weird they did this but it gives us some nice models all these years later!

The BMC FG is one of my favourite trucks too. Such a good looking truck imho and very unique. From a time when even commercial vehicles had some effort put in to style them.
The only other FG’s I’ve got are a few Oxford and Base Toys 1:76 ones for my model railway. Nice enough but being so small you can’t quite get the details on them like this 1:43 can.
Anyway… I won a second one yesterday for a tenner!! I’ll keep one as a tipper and do the other as something else I think. Maybe a ‘Sunblest’ box truck??

Does look very similar. Even the wheels are the same, just with a bit of paint.
I’ve got no idea where it’s from tbh, it looks like some sort of partwork or magazine car, but I can’t find which. The grey colour is a bit pants though!
Im not sure if they’re returns or rejects, they were from a wholesaler who had quite a few. All very dusty and clearly been in storage a while, but they have random defects to the paint finish too.

Quick bit of googling suggests it's a Delprado from their Ultimate Car Collection..

This link is not secure Lauburu43: Ford Capri (1972)

Quote

The model that gives us accompanies is the 37th installment of the Car Model collection from DelPrado publishing house and possibly manufactured by Universal Hobbie. The specialists will give the verdict.

Side note a 9 year old picked these because they looked like ‘real’ cars, so I guess kids are no different to how we were years ago! My own daughters used to pick cars from the street too - though deny it now their cool adults 😉

Lovely!!

Never had the Thames camper before. It’s a really nice little thing. I’m amazed it’s kept its rear doors too.

Thanks Tim!👍

My folks have taken a bit of a road trip, which means I had some time spare to crack open the big box of recently imported diecasts and take a few snaps.

Let's start things off with another Cogbox item - a very hefty Siku!

20231205_125152.thumb.jpg.434ad1bee8263600071c70f247cf9dd3.jpg

I'm reliably informed by my folks that this alone made up 400g of international luggage allowance.

20231205_123702.thumb.jpg.1831212fb61fe650da01a75da4743491.jpg

The heft relates to the fact that it's an all metal body and chassis, with the tanker body representing much of that weight.

20231205_123751.thumb.jpg.6d547c5ee02e9786b6151f467fde1e45.jpg

There's a ladder at the rear which is thankfully complete. One filler cap is missing up top and there's clips on the side, presumably stowing a hose. Google tells me that the clip on top should house a big Aral hoarding, which frankly I can live without:

images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRk9JpGcY-Yqe6xIDcRl1f

Thinking about it, I don't think Siku sold a racing car to go with this racing themed tanker, so it's a bit of an oddity.

20231205_123724.thumb.jpg.5ee8777ef47f246163688fc8e4a39e0b.jpg

The side hatch reveals a couple of hoses, with knotted ends emulating a nozzle.

20231205_123917.thumb.jpg.32eb80e6c55df5bf26d775742cc6f8e0.jpg

Assuming the knotted ends related to the hoses being retractable (and the fancy retracting mechanism being the reason for the tanker body weight), I pulled one out to test. Turns out I was wrong! It seems I now have one permanently retracted hose. Fortunately it still stows away but it seems bizarre that there's a single use play element to this. And that it took about a half century for a middle aged man laid on his kitchen floor to activate it...

20231205_125023.thumb.jpg.4deca68b48d5136ccd86588afb1e8b11.jpg

But for all of Siku's misgivings, they left in a couple of play value features. I guessed the cab tilted as it's very much a Siku feature but the canopy tolerances are fine enough for me to have totally overlooked it. Turns out the notches are to pull it out with and not to wrap hose round, as assumed!

I do feel a little sad that one of the hoses is now forever pulled out but I think this shows that if it was ever played with, it was done so extremely carefully.

Anyway, big thanks to @Datsuncog for sourcing!

Posted

Wow that's lovely! I have quite a few Siku trucks but they're all a bit later than that and don't have the tilting cab which is a shame.

Posted

Siku trucks were a thing of absolute craftsmanship, far far beyond what we could afford as a kid but I’ve picked a few up over the years and they’re really well made.

We joined my Dad in 1987, when he'd been posted to Germany, so that's where my love of Sikus emerged. We left in late '88 but in that short time, Christmas and birthday were Siku orientated for me, which explains the trucks I still have now. It also helped that both sets of grandparents came to visit for Christmas, so '87 must've been an absolute bumper treat year!

Sikus also seemed on a par with the cost of a Matchbox Superfast. Plus every last pfennig of pocket money went towards them!
