A little while ago @bunglebus posted some pics of a Hot Wheels Land Rover which I liked the look of...

20231024_180339.jpg

This got me thinking I should make a Corgi version of it

IMG_8257.thumb.JPG.ed2375bd6730c3c1488f4e284c184da8.JPG

Which I did , but kind of making it how I thought Corgi might do it

IMG_8258.thumb.JPG.78b85facb9093ed9a67c446e276b359d.JPG

So used bits from other Corgis as well as few scratch built bits

IMG_8259.thumb.JPG.1a8370b4b613159abd90a609e677eaf5.JPG

And some stickers etc printed from @bunglebus's original photos

IMG_8252.thumb.JPG.f64de3b152fc388e9466d664ee5f2dda.JPG

IMG_8253.thumb.JPG.8c34bf85b989741a28df5be4165c6d0a.JPG

IMG_8260.thumb.JPG.90209f7e427c6f630bfb613517264f6a.JPG

I started with a 50p boot fair find that had broken A pillars so I didn't feel bad cutting off the roof

IMG_8218.thumb.JPG.0a3a7fb6011a3f46be13d7fb27701240.JPG

Here next to a standard model

IMG_8221.thumb.JPG.26e5d38a9cd8d778c59f64b837c1de2e.JPG

IMG_8223.thumb.JPG.0f643da3784d41ab04ba7a6a6e5678db.JPG

Now it's finished there's lots of things I wish I'd done better, but the overall effect is what I wanted

IMG_8262.thumb.JPG.bc6557370204c8228948b19294a22b94.JPG

Funny that the big toy makers Corgi, Dinky & Spot on all made versions of the LWB Land Rover

IMG_8263.thumb.JPG.0b065aa8092aa852623d080be7d02f22.JPG

I might do another one as a standard Corgi SWB, but that will have to wait as I still have far too many projects pending...

That Landy looks fantastic! Certainly does look like a big version of the Hot Wheels one.👍

That Landys brilliant love the flip flops and the Corgi logo where the HW logo is.

That is awesome, how did you do all the decals?

Thank you, the surf board (stuck to plasticard), wind screen tax disc & decals + the Cool Vintage were all printed from your pics you posted here with some cellotape over the top. The Corgi logo I printed off Google images.

I missed off the BF Goodrich as I couldn't work out how to lose the background.

While I think of it, the wheels are Corgi US Racing Buggy and the chequer plate is from Corgi Holmes Wrecker. Seats are rear seats from Corgi 2CV, dash and steering wheel is made from Corgi Ghia L 6.4 with dials off a Corgi Daf City Car. Spanner is from Corgi VW pick up. Other bits of sprew and glazing from various toys and models also used.

Flip flops are plasticard and fuse wire.

Yes Promod in Stafford acquired some of the Budgie tooling.

They no longer produce the VW Pickup, probably wore it out

Always a sign of a quality highly-collectible product when the manufacturer misspells their own name on the certificate.

I quite like the hay truck and the Royal Mail van. The cab looks like a bit like a Quest 80 truck:

My folks arrive in a couple of days (along with a needless amount of diecasts, hopefully!), so I nipped out to the Kiwi version of Wilkos (barring the closed down bit) and took a look down the toy aisles, since it's perilously close to Black Friday. This retail gimmick seems to be a week-long event in NZ - presumably to avoid all the kerfuffle usually associated with battling shoppers overseas.

Anyway, here's what I found:

20231123_132656.thumb.jpg.14a19196f026ec85c32861acaf238d4b.jpg

Large sized image left, for those of a Hotwheels bent to oggle at.

Standard issue ones were not included in the sale and cost $3.50, so a standard enough price on the global Hotwheels market, I'd imagine (£1.75-ish).

All others were though and I actually nabbed a couple for those on here. There was a 'new for 2024' monster Beetle at a quite palatable $7 which I had lined up for @bunglebus, like so:

mt34.jpg?v=1698323155&width=600

Sadly, it was too cheap to make the most of the offer, so it got put back. These don't seem too scarce, however.

There were also a few Matchbox Moving Parts at $8 each, including a single Jeep FC but overall stocks were low.

Anyway, here's my selection:

Screenshot_20231123_143026_Gallery.jpg.f6afacc7a0edbd81d788b9cb7ec308d0.jpg

I went for a couple of things I'd be happy-ish to hold on to, should no-one's boats be floated.

Screenshot_20231123_143112_Gallery.jpg.c3912300bd6aecc362b5ce8f18eec331.jpg

Seeing Chief Brody's Blazer featuring in Jaws was a personal highlight of the film, which although a true classic, I tend to find a bit stale in places. Sadly, the excellent painted steels and pie dish trims aren't replicated here.

Screenshot_20231123_143151_PhotoEditor.jpg.f966fc99ca9bb76ffacab14a53a2506e.jpg

There's been a stab at some interior detailing here but we're hardly talking 90's Vitesse issues, which accurately portrayed an era of truly jazzy seat materials hitherto unseen in family cars.

20231123_141722.thumb.jpg.34c69122ad076cffbeafb364f298b7ce.jpg

Can't argue with the modded 142, with a nice set of wheels selected and daubed in an excellent shade of orange, with no pointless decals. Fresh.

Screenshot_20231123_143239_Gallery.jpg.6d2d9446b76cb76d787d3e51d01896f4.jpg

The back end is equally well executed - perhaps better than the front end, which I think has a grille a smidge too wide and headlights fractionally too small.

Anyway, this duo came to $15, which is roughly £7.50, give or take.

It's likely I'll start a pile of stuff to return to the UK with my folks in January (including a for sale thread closer to the time), so if anyone's willing to wait until then to bag either of these at £3.75 a throw, do sing out.

The sale ends on the 28th and there's a slim chance I'll be passing by again before that, though do note that the nearest of these stores is a 40km round trip. But holler out any requests and I'll see what I can do.

To be fair monster trucks are not usually hard to find, the buggy I was searching for is now commonplace in BuM and Home Bargains, along with a couple of others I may have succumbed to

2023-11-23_07-27-23.thumb.jpg.cfbf60412a029100eedcef3eb7bb1ba3.jpg

Picked that up in Sainsbury's when I was in Chester earlier this year.

I look forward to finding the Beetle, and maybe the gold Majorette one that was spotted in France a few months ago too

Talking of Hot Wheels Volkswagens, someone listed a bunch of unusual ones on eBay. I won a few but got outbid on most.

These 1:50 scale cars were only produced in 2008 but included a split Beetle, several versions of the T1, type three fastback and the two I won, a squareback and a Karmann Ghia

Quite decent detailing, rubber tyres but no opening bits. They seem similar to the same era Jada

I have a Convoy, think it’s the flatbed thing. Wheels buckled and chipped but I remember as a kid finding it in a box and seeing it was a Dinky - at that time they were doing the whole ‘collectors item’ bollocks. My mum suggested to buy it as it was probably valuable what with being a Dinky, that’s 20p I’ll never see again! It was no Foden chain truck that’s for sure.

Thing is, they must have produced a short bulk run, to have distributed like this

656872.thumb.webp.cd1c1e1461d93f0a81f7233ae3b625d5.webp

A pre-prod wouldn't be sent out to clients like this?  It would be packed in a sturdy box alongside the other 'new to range' examples to lay out on a table together

https://www.vectis.co.uk/593-lot-645162-dinky-pre-production-the-avengers-john-steed-s-jaguar?el=645162

They might have, to show the packaging.

Nice. Yes, it appears to be a recolour of the Moving Parts version, same reference numbers on the base (apart from the white code, which might signify the colours?).

I have a light blue with gold graphics version.

What's rather cool about it in the Japanese issue packaging is that it appears to be reminiscent of the original Japanese issue Superfast. An example here: https://www.ebay.com/itm/155597505567

s-l1600.thumb.jpg.b4e667e0cb05572199f2776becb44030.jpg

They've even replicated the base pretty closely:
