Rita Sue and Bob too?

Was talking about this film before in work. Years ago I got free tickets to watch a play of it in the local theatre. The prop used in the main car scenes was an XR3i convertible!

Thinking back I’d be about 10 when I first watched that, there’s not a cat in hells chance I’d let my daughter watch that at the same age. 🤣

Couldn't make it now anyhow

The story was semi-autobiographical written by the late Andrea Dunbar.  Andrea had an affair with a married man, having sex with him in his car, along with her friend Eileen.

In her play/screenplay, Bob was set as 27 years old.  Rita and Sue were set as 15-16

Siobhan Finneran and Michelle Holmes were 19/20 and George Costigan was nearly 40 when filming.

Front and rear tampos are so much better than side ones. Not many real cars have anything on the side of them anyway

This came in the post, Tomicas are quite lovely things - just never saw them when I was a kid

Off topic but that reminds me of how at about this time of year, every year without fail Strictly Come Dancing wheels out an 'American car' as a prop that totally isn't a Volvo 740 with some chrome bits grafted onto the front...

Anyway, rapidly back onto topic, I flew out of Hong Kong airport the other day and was amazed to know they had a model car shop just before customs. I regret to inform you I didn't buy the faux-Lego transformer Toyota Crown Comfort...

... but I did get a New Territories spec version of the latest Toyota Comfort.

Day off today,so went into town for breakfast & to look round the charity shops.I didn't find anything, but came home to find this outside my front door20231121_134136.thumb.jpg.4d5511293ad582bbaaea2d23a1f0ba0e.jpg

I hadn't ordered anything,so opened it up to find that it's the cars I won from @RichardK at the weekend 🙂.I got them out for a quick picture 20231121_133349.thumb.jpg.5b87e26e693d43c84836f3db0bc92b09.jpg

Some very nice cars here,my favourites so far are the Metro set,the Lancia Stratos,& the Alfa Giulia.

It's my birthday today,so nice timing.Thanks again Richard 😎

Happy Birthday too🥳

Another plastic oddity has materialised in the form of this Italian MK1 Golf. Whoever made it had quite a good stab at the wheels at least

Bit more painting done today.
Here’s a load of the current ‘works in progress’ hardening off.

Mercury Commuter had its interior painted darker blue. I’ll do some lighter blue centres to the seats, steering wheel etc once it’s all dry.

Cortina is now in its final colour!
Roman Bronze is the colour of winners, and suits the Cortina to a T!

I also picked up this bastardised Dinky Volvo since nobody else bid on it.
It’d been opened up, shit speed wheels replaced with much older tyred wheels than poorly painted red. Reason I was attracted to it was the wheels tbh! It just stood out!
It’s been stripped and now drying after a wash off, but in the meantime I decided to do a bit of wheel testing…

IMG_2900.thumb.jpeg.f0bf30cce9d3509e92cebce7385d75a1.jpeg

Fronts are as it came. I think they are actually Dinky truck wheels & tyres on homemade axles.
Rears are a suggestion from @eddyramrod and are late Dinky Transit wheels which actually fit well! Obviously the tyres are completely wrong for that wheel so I’ll need new ones!
I did test a set of Corgi wheels (from a big Regal), which did look quite good (looked a bit like Volvo alloys!) but they were far too big to clear the rear arches sadly!

About the same as a Lucky Toys, didn't measure it but I needed to use the bigger photo booth.

Keeping this one, definitely more about old VWs than Fiats!

@danthecapriman Chop chop, anything will fit if you want it enough

Dinky Volvo 245 custom

Looks like it would pair well with your Transit actually

Does yours have the absolutely awful right front wing? Seems to affect all but the earliest cars

Crikey! No, mine doesn’t look like that!
There’s a very slightly rough part in the casting on the doors one side but apart from that it’s quite a nice one.

I think there was a fault in the mould after the blue cars, so the police ones and the orange Polistil produced Italian ones have the defect

Wonder if it still survives that car?

Went around the houses to find out if there was any knowledge, but no.  Probably not, as there are just 19 ROVER 3500 V/PLAS EFI AUTO on the road, 89 on SORN.

The plate 437 BMR itself went onto a pre-production/Evaluation UK Nissan R33 Skyline during 1997-2002 (which wears N4 SMO today)

Then went onto be worn by 2006 Mercedes Atego 815 box van, then onto a BMW 2-series and was on that BMW last year

That would make sense, the car I’ve got was the blue type. I’ve got another one, also blue but in pretty nice condition, and that doesn’t have the dodgy wing either.

Wasnt there a beige/off white colour release too?

Oh yes. Haven't got one but I can see the terrible wing

Picture 3 of 10

The top half is proud of the trim line and there's a gap in it too, ahead of the door, I think they had to re-make that part of the casting and they're all faulty

Orange is like it too

Picture 7 of 8

Blue has the correct trim proud of the wing and no gap in it

Police is harder to see due to the sticker but I can see it's just as bad

Despite definitely being from Dinky’s cheapskate era, they’re not actually a bad looking model. With some extra paint on the bumpers & grill, door handles etc and ditching those atrocious wheels, it’d have so much better.

I might do mine with US headlights though! Like on my 740! Or maybe even with the round headlights?
