Managed to get to the Boot sale last Sunday

Buggy & Motor Home Mrs Concern's buys obv

IMG_7534.thumb.JPG.b1b75dce0593d292b12d6c8fc666c251.JPG

I was a bit taken aback when I got home and found how big the Dinky Truck is...

IMG_7535.thumb.JPG.19e67934f6a4f1e87e67c6f8a7b0ab22.JPG

That will have to go with the Corgi 1/36 I'm not* collecting at all.

Mrs Concern decided she didn't want this funny little buggy, but I like it and managed to find out what it is

Larami Corp 903

s-l1600.jpg

Only in the US & known as a Dime Store Toy Car

https://www.ebay.com/itm/175701444319

I also bought a couple of early Corgi Land Rovers with no interior or suspension

IMG_7540.thumb.JPG.f528f228913d760b86644d1ddf070078.JPG

I've never owned a flat sided one of these Lan Rovers and these are both quite good really for 99p (+P&P) I was very happy. They have thetow hook in place and most of the paint. I need some of the big tyres for them now & I may get a tin canopy for one of them

Some do survive, although sell very well at auction when they turn up.  Which is why we have to make our own!

Also I remember the rotating shop displays well.

Majorette also had something similar, not cylindrical but an upright cube, I think it was.  I remember taking ages over one choice and got my Dad annoyed...  it was a Simca 1300 Police, remember it well and still have it.

Yet I can’t remember what I just went out the office for

I remember a newsagents in Marple had a carousel like that!

I had a look round town today for the Volvo 240.  Smyths is still under construction so can be disregarded, but I did look in Tesco, Morrisons, Poundland, Home Bargains, BuM and The Entertainer.  Not a 240 to be seen, although I did find the HW P1800 gasser.  But didn't buy one.

However, I also looked in most of the charity shops.

That one exception is the Corgi Junior Merc 190, because it's going to get painted to resemble one a friend owned, that I drove on occasion.

100_0383.thumb.JPG.7ac6b37f3f082f403e226a0e83ec57a5.JPG

In the same bag was this Junior w114, which is going to become the cherished 114 of one of my Cypriot friends.

I also picked up this:

100_0382.thumb.JPG.7bc655a4cf8d261c53fc3828303b794d.JPG

...which is rather bigger, maybe about 1/36-ish.  Like most of the little 'uns it's in lovely condition.  Unlike them it'll be a quid.  If they don't sell here they'll go into the stock in the boot of the Jag.

Now... who remembers what I said the other week about fibreglass cars?  Specifically, metal models of same; there's an inherent wrongness about a metal model of a fibreglass car for me.  However, I do have some, see below!

Not shown are the two that are still on the bench awaiting assembly, that have been through my resto process.

Let's look at the legendary Chevrolet Corvette...

100_0389.thumb.JPG.e2d917ec48f190ad612ef65f6a4e2040.JPG

The white one is a Junior, and is my rendition of Faceman's Vette from the A Team.

I'm pretty sure the Dodge Viper and Plymouth Prowler are fibreglass; anyone know for sure?

100_0390.thumb.JPG.d32e1fd555de813ac085872ca3b19a8a.JPG

Now I know Reliants are fibreglass!

100_0392.thumb.JPG.aa964164925d9cd6a69a862254608a7f.JPG

These are the Vanguards casting.  I could do with one more for painting purposes, at scrap price obvs.

The Renault Espace is/was fibreglass, n'est-ce pas?  Et aussi the Alpine?

100_0391.thumb.JPG.35a003503a168ca98bd6766926889dd2.JPG

And now some more Wants.  Scrap price always, of course.

100_0394.thumb.JPG.ba43e43155b76481e30b70cc254d6b81.JPG

These above are all from the Bond partwork collection.  There are actually two different 1960s Ford station wagons; I'll be delighted to see either land on my doorstep.  The gold Chevy is also offered as a police car and again, I'll be happy with either version.  The black car is a 1957 Ford Fairlane from Thunderball, also available as a white-over-brown convertible from Die Another Day.  I don't actually need either car, although it's often handy to have one for parts, but what I do need is the front bumper!  I have a convertible that's missing that piece, and I'm pretty sure the bumper off either will work.  Pretty please!

Ruff Rabbit III is I think the Golf Country, a good one to compare to the 80s original

Yes, Moggie is coming to the mainline, and I'll be lining that Continental up against an original Lesney too

I hadn't realised that the Cadillac ambulance had gained a large sunroof at some point - I wonder if I can fit the glazing into an appropriately modified hearse version so you can check out the infamous arm sticking out of the coffin?

Saw the VW ID5 in The Entertainer as well, can’t stand the real thing but the diecast looked good. I can see the Volvo gets scalped, loads up for £9.99 delivered on eBay, I figure they must be making £1-2 per item, seems hardly worth it! In real terms they must be working a loss. If you could get £30 for it let’s say you’d be laughing, I’d completely get it.

If the opportunity arises though I feel a Volvo 240 custom coming on, so the old style wheels like the Capri had, brown paint finish, bits of primer here and there. So I’ll keep an eye out when they’re a bit more common.

Bollocks! I mean, great! There’s a load more models to buy then!😁

Lots there I fancy, definitely the Moggie and the Lincoln. When do they come out?

The Morris 1000 should be out later this year, but knowing the failed piss up in a brewery that’s gone on so far...

Picked up a couple of Mopar’s today.
Dodge Tradesman van from Johnny Lightning and Dodge Diplomat police cruiser from Greenlight. Both 1/64. Really nice little things, Diplomat is is really nice. Great details and really looks like the real car. The grill is especially good.

Again, both lovely looking. The wheels on the Impala look a bit plasticky to me but still nice.  Ramp truck is very cool though!

IIRC I sent @Datsuncogthe tractor unit for one of those as a ROAK some years ago. There are a few different wheel types aren't there?

Don't think I have a pic of the one I sent across the Irish Sea, but a few have been in my grasp along with their younger Corgi equivalents.

Probably coming up for grabs soon

Husky Major Car Transporter 'Hoynor Mk.II' originally had a white Ford D-Series tractor unit.  A less-common variation with red tractor unit was also released, with no change to the trailer colour scheme.  I think white looks nicer and just fancied an early one and there it was, pegs and ramp intact and tidy.

Original packaging of Husky Major Car Transporter 'Hoynor Mk.II' was :

Husky-Major-2002-Car-Transporter-CC422.thumb.jpg.6dba66d97f0f2e61a810975b39f0e72d.jpg

It had MK10 Jaguars up on top deck on the hand-sketched card artwork.

Husky-Major-2002-Car-Transporter-CC4221.thumb.jpg.6829c64366b8b23de4a16fa0f496730a.jpg

The model spanned (according to Toymart) 1967-69 as model 2002, originally with turned wheel hubs, becoming part of Gift Set 3003.  Notice the later cast metal wheels in that set:

HGS3003W146.thumb.jpg.49bd25dc480776023b644785795f4d65.jpg

For 1970 it was rebranded into the Corgi Juniors range, with casting changes made to the bases as apart of the branding and the opportunity to bundle with a revised set of Whizzwheel cars:

photos_53276427_30563128_20539030.jpg

Revision to colour scheme and wheels led to 1975 with Super Juniors branding:

Corgi-Super-Juniors-E3054-Transporter-X348.thumb.jpg.9408672b94d40be2efbfc169bf6e701b.jpg

There was no carry-over when the tractor unit replacement became Mercedes-Benz L-series as the Hoynor casting was dropped in favour of a new design that could be produced as a double trailer set:

I'm trying my best to ignore that and make a firm stand on buying any more car transporters Right Now, Hey Now.

I've been in a big Asda, two TK Maxx, two Poundlands, Sainsbury's, two Tescos, two Smyths and Entertainer in the last two days. Nothing.

Posted

I haven't done such an extensive trawl but I've found smilar with various branches of Tesco and a B&M. Did find some odd Majorettes in a Sainsbury's however, so got a Mitsubishi ASX and yellow Mk1 Golf (after seeing a 1:1 example just a few minutes beforehand).

Let's look at the legendary Chevrolet Corvette...

The white one is a Junior, and is my rendition of Faceman's Vette from the A Team.

I'm pretty sure the Dodge Viper and Plymouth Prowler are fibreglass; anyone know for sure?

Now I know Reliants are fibreglass!

These are the Vanguards casting.  I could do with one more for painting purposes, at scrap price obvs.

The Renault Espace is/was fibreglass, n'est-ce pas?  Et aussi the Alpine?

And now some more Wants.  Scrap price always, of course.

I don't really get it, how do you feel about plastic Revell or Tamiya kits of Minis, Spitfires etc?

I think I've said before that The Corgi Elan is one of my fave toys ever!

I've built hundreds of plastic kits of metal-bodied cars, ships and aircraft and never thought anything of it.  The problem (for that is how I would have to describe it) that I have is quite recent.  It's only a matter of months.  It must be something not working right in my brain.  One of the reasons I made so much of it above, with all those pics, was to poke fun at myself for the feelings.  I'm well aware that it's a ridiculous thing to be fretting over.

You might have mentioned that about the Elan, it does seem a familiar sentiment.  And I don't blame you; it's a lovely model, especially with the removable chassis.

My brother used to have the yellow Elite, which was used as James Bond's car in games as it was the nearest we had to an Esprit. Later on he got an Aston Martin with all the gadgets.

It had MK10 Jaguars up on top deck on the hand-sketched card artwork.

The model spanned (according to Toymart) 1967-69 as model 2002, originally with turned wheel hubs, becoming part of Gift Set 3003.  Notice the later cast metal wheels in that set:

For 1970 it was rebranded into the Corgi Juniors range, with casting changes made to the bases as apart of the branding and the opportunity to bundle with a revised set of Whizzwheel cars:

Revision to colour scheme and wheels led to 1975 with Super Juniors branding:

There was no carry-over when the tractor unit replacement became Mercedes-Benz L-series as the Hoynor casting was dropped in favour of a new design that could be produced as a double trailer set:

I'm trying my best to ignore that and make a firm stand on buying any more car transporters Right Now, Hey Now.

The second trailer in the double trailer set has a hook too,so you could make an Australian style roadtrain if you had enough trailers.I think I've got 4 or 5......

Went big B&M last night, being open until 10

Loads of stock of Hot wheels and Matchbox but no Hunt Cherokee, Volvo 240, Alfa GTV6, Chevette, Porsche 928.  I've not been back in a month expecting restocks to have come through by now, but no sign of those ones. While I was away most of August I did visit Entertainers and Smyths to.

I'm not sure they really exist and it's all a wind-up. Deja vu!

As those of you who frantically scour my 1:1 car thread may be aware, the Yaris of much crispiness has been giving me some headaches lately with its brakes.

It's always the brakes on this thing.

Two consecutive MOT fails on brake lines arrived last night, with an apparently weeping union join on a new set of lines deemed unacceptable.

Fortunately, the garage that did the work was still open last night, so I took it back down, got it nipped up, and booked a last-minute test for this morning.

Unfortunately for me, this means that I'm here...

When I'd much rather be here:

But. Such is life.

And I'm hoping that if I manage to squeak a pass in the next ten minutes, I can blast down the A8 into Belfast and see if there's anything left worth picking up... because, just to heap misery upon misery, Market Blokey messaged me yesterday...

Oh, the agony.

Catch you on the flip side, kids...
