Boot fair today

Mrs Concern got a few caravans, I got the Matchbox C30 and Corgi Land Rover Crane canopy for 30p! I have a Land Rover waiting to be painted so that's handy. I know most of you won't be interested in the C30, they are silly money on ebay now. I now have 22 of them!

IMG_7104.thumb.JPG.3738555fa0edd6550702d779cd1bc307.JPG

The Corgi Mini van isa bad repaint and £8 was asked for it, I've been looking for one to repaint and on ebay they go for that sort of money with missing doors or lights and this has both

IMG_7109.thumb.JPG.f7c2683da4670838cdd2129cc1cdd9ac.JPG

So I haggled it down to £5 which I thought was ok and when I got home I was pissed off when I noticed it's one of those with the wrong Austin grill rather than a van grill.

Not really what I wanted after all.

Perfectly acceptable period mod on the 1/1 examples!  I remember seeing a few around Southport way back when.  I suppose how much that info is worth depends on what livery you intended to give it.

For those bemoaning the lack of Matchbox and Hotwheels, I’ve been in NYC for a few days and quite frankly they are invisible there too!

To be fair supermarkets and toy shops are thin on the ground but I guess this is 10+ general retailers/supermarkets (which I poked  my head in as I passed) and I saw just TWO matchbox and one bald HW display and one full (but picked) display in a Target. So here you go 😁

Is that... $1.19 for 2023 HW mainlines?

I appreciate there are sometimes state taxes that get added at the checkout in the US, but....

That's equivalent to 94p.

And I think they've gone up a bit lately - Mattel used to make much of how their basic models retailed for only a dollar.

I fear we're getting stung over in Blighty with these £2.49 pricepoints, folks...

NYC total price at Target, with both state and local tax additions = £1.02 each.  Cor!

It is a Target though.  Winn-Dixie would be 50% more, CVS and Auto Zone parts stores likely 100% more; having nothing like the bulk stock of Target and Walgreens

One comparison could be Hamleys store in Regent Street (London) vs. FAO Schwarz in the Rockerfeller Center (where Tom Hanks jumped about on a floor piano).  Both of those are the oldest established large toy stores in the cities, where rich people visit as well.  I doubt we'd find young Barron Trump wandering about in a Target, lifting up mainline singles to see if there is a treasure hunt logo, while accidentally treading on the Adidas sneakers of Nemesis.

Annoying Monday Facts for page 1401

Gabriella wanted to show you some Pipework.  Might be best to look interested, as it looks like she could scratch your eyes out.

The Pipe belongs to the Fiat Abarth 2000 Scorpione prototype, built by Pininfarina for 1969.

You may have recognised that Dinky Toys had a rather good stab at it, at 1:43 scale

At the smaller 1:64 scale, Guisval looked tidy

o1080079414996186766.thumb.jpg.db0ef684fcedd62cd48d5cf8c498d876.jpg

Also there was Lintoy, who offered an OPENING THING which the Guisval didn't have

Tin Toys weren't quite as successful, yet did add SCREEN STRENGTH

But did you know that Matchbox had a prototype of their own?

The real Scorpione prototype was brought to Japan by Sergio Pininfarina for the exhibition 'Carrozzeria Italiana' at Tokyo in 1977.  Pininfarina promised to sell it to Shiro Kosaka if he established an Abarth Museum in Tokyo. In 1993, the museum was opened in the presence of Pininfarina and among others, the promised Fiat Abarth Scorpione.

It is still in the possession of Shiro Kosaka and he drives it about at events such as this little gathering at Lake Como.

Had a trip into Lyndhurst today.  One of the shops had those Oxford 1:76 models for £10.50 each. The ones you can get off their website for a still overpriced £7.45

However, the nearby antiques place had them for £6. Not that I wanted any, but they had a lot of stuff.

The boxed dinkys and vanguards weren't cheap. But they had some other stuff more reasonably priced.
