Surprised if they sell a thing

I tried my best to zoom in but still could not find the ‘VINTAGE HOT WHEELS’ they exclaimed about

Vintage seems to be a liberally applied term for anything not brand new. They weren't what I'd call vintage.

Some of the Matchbox were gorgeous but way WAY overpriced

Back in November I invested some bitcoin in this Dinky Volkswagen De Luxe

This is it now

Pretty pleased with this one, it suffers from the same problem they all do where the decklid won't stay shut, and I also should have re-silvered the original headlight jewels before glueing them back in.

It seems you cannot buy replacement German number plates for this model (well you can but only the oblong front one), so I left the base original as it was in pretty good shape complete with sticker. I had the same problem with that red kit version so the rear is an oblong cut in half.

I might ask Black Square and see if they fancy making a sheet of them for me and others

Matchbox in Poundstretcher?!

Well, up to a point.

I have to say, the Working Rigs range is actually quite appealing - despite them involving a lot of plastic in their construction.

Seemingly procured as surplus Chinese domestic market stock.

That has to be one of the worst ever Dinky castings made. The shape is just so wrong.

Nice resto.

For those number plates I have used my inkjet printer and find a suitable font in Word. If I have an original I do a hi-def scan and print them that way.

Posted

I did consider bidding on a Golden Jacks Corvette this afternoon but it was missing the T-top inserts and needed a full resto as well as wheels. I've got enough projects.

I don't think my shonky old HP has the definition required to print those plates but I suppose there's no harm in trying

Whizzwheels and white paint definitely improved it

One way or another it's better than the last one I found - which can now donate a wheel

The ony way to improve it is to wear a blindfold.

How did they get it so wrong?

Clipstrips full of Matchbox in B&M.

HW trucks too,

Wait!

What are those white cards lurking behind?

IMG_20230304_175913.thumb.jpg.b9a8581e4dd2ec031c26d271c2abc0db.jpg

£1.99 each! Only these four though...

Will probably hold on to the Flying Customs for a bit, look at them lovingly then get hit with buyer's remorse and realise they're only going to get shot up in the loft, so dibs may be invited soon. I'll keep a lookout anyway, see if they get more in. Might be nipping out tomorrow anyway, so if anyone wants any of the HW pick ups, I could nip back...

I'd probably have bought it at that price, especially if I hadn't bought anything else.It does seem to be quite an uncommon one

Looks like it was designed on an etch a sketch. Awful.

Noted!

To be honest, I'll probably end up getting a set of those trucks too, as it's one of those rare occasions when I fancy the full set. Even the Land Rover...

So, these are what I came away with today. Already lobbed out 40 notes on getting the Merc MOT'd today, so I had to rein myself in a bit!

IMG_20230304_203655.thumb.jpg.bbb98eb6d31d5ddb4d81cfd41662cd47.jpgIMG_20230304_203815.thumb.jpg.4a3ebc82c6a54f5577b704d7bc7b1b23.jpg

This generation of Ranchero is so, so pretty, especially for a work vehicle and the colour is period perfect. I've seen a Lamley video saying that some of these were available in the US with the hubcap type wheels, which I think would have suited it better though

IMG_20230304_203851.thumb.jpg.66af1c8d521e078ff7de730d0bc3d07b.jpg

Another pick up, I do like this Nissan hardbody casting, and I also like period lairy graphics like these, on the proviso that they were available on the real vehicles in period. (Which is why I let Matchbox off with the Rabbit graphics on the orange release of the Mk1 Golf...) This probably makes me the most thunderously uncool guy on the forum but then I've been aware of that for a while anyway. 😆

Not really a big SUV type of guy bit the 4 runner looks a bit retro, even though I think this is this year's model. Lovely detailing on this one too, for the scale,

Christ, it's ugly though!

IMG_20230304_204102.thumb.jpg.0c1c1eb92869461590b25dfc7201ad8c.jpg

And these,

The star for me is the Mustang, just like the jacked up, wobbed up beauties that could be seen in the pages of Street Machine and the Northern custom car shows I used to visit as a kid in the early 80s...

Went B&M just now before closing, under the excuse that the wife wanted Prosecco.  She thought I was going to the off-licence. Well I was, kind of

But NO FLYING CUSTOMS  still.

Nor any of that Pickup series

There has been restock of mainline HW though in recent days...   of a sort.  They just laid down the stock on the shelf in pile, on top of the Mario's and Monsters!

IMG_20230304_204827_1.thumb.jpg.4f00811ed8c1632be01fd797b0d2e195.jpg

Had a rifle and found some of the elusives.

Returned with these, along with a bottle of vino pop too. She said I had 'been a long time' and 'was getting worried'

The 2023 Matchbox Dodge Sweptside colour is available if someone wants it

I was in B n M the other day. Picked up a matchbox Lexus. The lads had that. I did spot the hotwheels customs, and probably regret not picking a few up.

I'm going to be staking out my local BuM for the weekend!

I'll try and nip back next Saturday - we want to look around the rest of Battlesbridge antiques shops anyway so I can waffle about how much I like Anglepoise lamps and old telephones

Should have the opportunity to visit a B&M today, and one or two other shops, after the little Needham Market toy fair visit.

In the meantime, this week's purchases:

IMG_4100.thumb.JPG.c353c35346a89173217794ba9f2ea355.JPG

Hunter in post-rally condition, clearly not a minter but a replacement box on the roof would make it look decent. Are they available as a repro? Lyons Maid vendor has lost part of his right arm in the ice cream/drug wars that also saw his roof panel get smashed.

Just about to finish putting this together. 1;43 scale means those parts are pretty tiddly.

IMG_4099.thumb.JPG.363ea2edd7e8a1acc050b18bea310d4d.JPG

Not one of my better efforts, but it's good to keep the building going rather than just buying them....

That Hunter was a lovely model.  I never understood why Corgi failed to exploit it BITD.  We haven't even seen it rejigged as a Vanguard, which strikes me as a major omission.

Been away this weekend, to celebrate my birthday and on the walk back to our hotel last night, I had to stop by this bus stop poster, to take a closer look:

20230305_003841.thumb.jpg.32b88cf2b4cafdc2c90de26891da2324.jpg

Even at a brisk walking pace to get back to the room so I could use the loo (it's great getting old), I could spot a Novoexport Moskvitch!

20230305_003846.thumb.jpg.d3c64599dcf57e645e61382da7bb0d67.jpg

Blame the soft focus on either my rushed picture taking under the circumstances, or the after effects of 3 drinks, over a 4-5 hour period. First drinks this year, but still!

To try and offset the ageing process through the inevitable passing of time, there was some diecast action involved in the commemorations.

I'll report back tomorrow, when I've had a nice night's sleep.

Not sure, perhaps the lack of a big following for Hillman Hunters. Annoyingly it’s seems to be nearly all Fords and Vauxhalls.

@sierraman Yes, and the collectors have noticed.  Will Corgi take any notice?

It’s an excess of Ford Transits sold to show boating Plumbers driving about with 20 inch rims on their van who call themselves something ridiculous like Westfield Plumbing Solutions and wear gillets.
