Some tiny Europas in 1/72 from the Cararama range. Nicely done considering the small scale and a bit of an oddball choice. IIRC a couple of these were supplied by @Datsuncog a few years ago.

Crumbs, I'd forgotten all about those Hongwell Europas - yes, picked up from Poundland in about 2005 or so. Six different colourways, but I don't think I bought all of them.

Might have kept one for myself, I can't remember now.

This Lotus love-in has jogged my memory that I also had a Tomica Europa as well - though one of the mid-90s ones that came in a blister pack, rather than an original JDM card box example shown upthread. Dark green with yellow side stripes, I think.

Can't think what became of that - I definitely don't have it anymore, but from photos it wasn't around when I disposed of the bulk of my Tomica mini-collection in 2018.

I've only a metallic pinky-silver Superfast version these days, my rough Whizzwheels example (from a market 50p tub) having been jettisoned back at the start of last year.

Weird-looking cars alright, though I kinda like them.

As you may recall I'm trying to collect all the cars for my Corgi Transporter GS, so I bid on a job lot of Minis and won them for a not unreasonable £25, no postage as I collected them from down the road. (should have made a collection thread!)

That gift set looks absolutely fantastic! It does look just like they should from the catalog pictures. Is it all staying out on display now!?

Your new Mini’s look like a good find too.

Thanks I love it (again haha) and yes I've decided to put some of my favourite toys out on the shelves in one of the spare rooms. The C30s will stay in the cabinet with Mrs Concern's tin robots.

I'm happy with the Minis even though they weren't exactly a bargain unlike the box of stuff from you!

And also, hold that thought… I landed on another big box load! Just waiting for it to arrive.

I don’t think I put this pic up from when I was sifting through everything before.

Exciting news... Morrison’s to stock Matchbox. This is really good news, chicken, bread, some real ale and matchbox.

Posted

Bad news.

(For me anyway.)

There are no Morrisons stores in Northern Ireland any more.

I'll be nipping into Morrisons later, although if the MB contract with Tesco ends in March, I can't see Morrisons getting stock in till then. And even then, probably not until the next new case comes out.

Encouraging news though, our local Morrisons is where I get.the majority of my Hot Wheels purchases, even though they're usually one or two cases behind, most of the time.

Well I managed to slip away early and visit a Müller on my way to the station - not many Hot Wheels or Matchbox left but I didn't leave empty handed

Hi @Datsuncog If you have the chance please pick up any Matchbox Volvo C30s that aren't gold (not sure if there's a red one lurking in the pic near the bottom)

IMG_20230120_082706~2.jpg

And also the Majorette Citroen C4VTS in green (If there's one in black or red I'd prefer it but not too fussy)

If it's difficult then no problem and thanks anyway

Is that a new release?

Well worth picking up a couple of those I think, a set for just £8.83 GBP

Why don’t we have such choice in the U.K.?

I saw those Jada BTTF multipacks in our local Asda around six months back. They stock a fair bit of Jada diecast.

Yeah a bit too expensive for me, I did buy the F+F set for the MK1 Escort in Asda for similar money. Germany is not a bargain basement but it does offer better choice than we get

Posted

Germany has the EU bloc 19% VAT equivalent so ought to be similar

Stock choices should* be led by demand.  Perhaps we just don't buy enough

Smyths and Entertainer have the UK sown-up as so many independents were closed / swallowed.  It pains me when I walk into Entertainer (especially) and see big boxed pre-school/toddler toys that surely they can't shift many of, yet leave other lines such as die-cast so sparse.  And what's with those overflowing stands of Schleich farm animals

Posted

As a change from all this agonising about new models (justified though it is) here's a look at one of my projects.

I wanted a mk2 Cortina in 1/43 to represent the last car my dad bought new, way back in 1967.  The 1600 engine had just come out so he got a good deal on a 1500 Super in maroon, which he called Black Cherry.  Contemporary models of the mk2 came from Matchbox and Dinky, in approximately 1/64 and 1/43 respectively.  I've never had the Dinky but that doesn't matter because it's a two-door and our car had four.  The Matchbox was also a two-door, but some years ago I converted one to four-door and it's been in my Family Fleet wing of the collection ever since.  More recently I've decided to add some more 1/43s, where the only model I have is smaller, and the Cortina is one that I can do because there's a perfectly acceptable Vanguards model these days, and thanks to a fine gentleman from these parts who shall remain nameless, I have the Boy Racer edition at a scrap price to use as my base.  Except... even the Vanguard Cortina is only a two-door.

1523879523_SUNP0058(2).thumb.JPG.32c3262ceaf851f16d661db8faf53ef0.JPG

Well it WAS!

1205923777_SUNP0059(1).thumb.JPG.db17c9bcc91a3adca90bb2d4f28229b6.JPG

Out go the B pillars.  I've kept them in case I can use them a bit further forward, because obviously the Cortina was never available as a pillarless hardtop (shame on you, Ford!).  The shell will now have to wait until I'm mixing up some filler in the spring (I have other cars needing some) because obviously the door shut line is in the wrong place now.  Then I will have to take a deep breath and with a very steady hand, scribe new verticals where they should be.  I probably won't follow the line of the rear arch!  And then it can be painted maroon.

Speaking of paint...

SUNP0061.thumb.JPG.a62899bbc9e1bf923dbacf05d49cf0b3.JPG

The Boy Racer edition comes with a beige interior, which, on the whole, Cortinas didn't back then.  I remember them being mostly black; certainly ours was.  So what you see above is a little Humbrolling to correct that.  The dash is black already, but unfortunately has a supplementary instrument pod cast into the top, which the Super didn't have.  I'm not going to try and re-sculpt it though.  The BR also has a sunstrip at the top of the windscreen bearing the names Mick and Tracey.  I've removed that with a small file.  It also has a lovely pair of bullet mirrors on the front wings, which have gone into a spares pot.  I'm sure I'll find a use for those.

More pictures to follow in a few months.

Posted

The only thing about those Vanguards Cortinas was that some tended to suffer from zinc pest. Yours is obviously  a good one though!

Until now. And an unusual one for me, both in scale and manufacture.

Its the only one I could find in the same colour. Same spec too.

Hey yeah that's damn nice. That reminds me I have a Britain's Freelander in the loft but I'm sure it's bigger than 1:32. Which makes no sense as Britain's have of course modeled in that scale forever.
