Some more of todays finds, more £5 Corgis from a very nice man, all equally nice! I’ve always wanted an A60 driving school car and now I have one, ditto the VW pick up. The SLC I cant help grabbing, (I have stopped counting now!) The SM is impressively heavy, and like the SLC in that corgi scale between 60’s size and 1/36. 1/40th perhaps?

The vision of Browness is flanked by two beauties - on the right the £7 Dinky Viva  is just lovely with an opening  bonnet and boot. On the left a new one of me and a £8 this time! Its A Guisaval Renault 17. It has an impressively  curved base plate, which seems entirely intentional, its really heavy and the doors are an opening piece of art. The sort of thing @barrett would pick up (if he collected toys, which he doesn’t ). My pictures are somehow doing the paint a disservice too - it has a lovely finish in the flesh.

That Viva and R17 are excellent. I don't know how I didn't know about the existence of the Renault until relatively recently, I think it's such a futuristic looking design for its time

@bunglebus That RR is definitely a copy of the Bburago, except the side marker lights are not separate parts with orange lenses, as you probably know. Is it Japanese? Im sure theres one in the well known 'Toy Cars' book. Its a smaller scale too if I remember correctly.

It's a PlayArt. Don't know the scale but it's quite a chunky boy, maybe slightly smaller than the largest Bburago I suppose

The same guy had several other Roller in a smaller scale, all quite unusual. Oh for unlimited funds...

Why the "running in" sticker though?

When I was a lad you could purchase self adhesive (not transfer) sheets of numberplates, tax discs trailer triangles etc. The Running In was included in one of the sheets.

Thats excellent,  really unusual and it looks a nice model. If you are so inclined a side by side with the Bburago would be great - I'm fairly sure you have a few of them?

I definitely do not have a Bburago Roller! I don't have many Bburagos at all actually, just a few I kept from an especially memorable charity shop visit a few years back.

Blimey, a busy day on here yesterday! Great to see the toyfair haul, I'd be scared of going to one that big - the one-off visit to Kempton Park earlier this year is probably my limit, and even there I had to be very restrained. Will try and get to a smaller one coming up at Ipswich soon.

I went to a 1:1 show yesterday, where sadly diecasts/kits were notably absent from the autojumble but I did pick up this old book and fantastic 1981 Monogram catalogue for not much.

The part-built Corvette was a cheapie off eBay, purchased as a potential engine donor. What's been done is pretty tidy, so might just pull the V8 and finish the rest as a kerbside display piece. It also turns out I have two other '90s AMT Corvettes plus a Camaro bought with the same thing in mind.....

Visits to Tesco/Asda stores I don't normally get to were unproductive (although I did see a Kadett), but happily a little independent toy shop we stopped at yesterday had a neat display of HW on pegs and a selection was made:

Acura NSX was requested my Master SL, I was pleased to find the Civics. I may already have the Mazda, but this one looked to be black rather green. Need to sort through the recent purchases*.

*Which reminds me, I do still have the French odds and ends here for those who expressed interest. I'll have a sort out when I have some time off near the end of the month.

What does the hive mind think that a reasonable price to ask for the following would be

1) Mint but unpackaged Hotwheels and Matchbox, Japanese and European cars. All from the last 10 years.

2) As above but unopened.

There's a few hard to find ones in there but I don't imagine that makes a difference.

I'm thinking of slimming down my HW collection into the ones I really want to keep (and then starting again!)

Honestly unless there are any rarities, £1 a car on the loose ones and £2-3 each on the carded ones - on a good day.

Only ones that will get more are premiums and Super Treasure Hunts, the others are just so common they don't command much money.

Easiest to sell as job lots but you'll get less per car

Paid a visit to the late start boot sale this morning as the weather was nice and it's on tarmac. Wasn't expecting much but there were two sellers with toy cars, one with several large 50p boxes - mostly modern Hot Wheels and Chinese stuff in there though. I did however get this Bburago 190E off him for a quid, all complete with just a bent wiper

20221009_125759.thumb.jpg.2c25c498c22d7f43634186ad7b4cee44.jpg20221009_125747.thumb.jpg.dbff3e22ba3cfcc8d0fffdd8ff4929e2.jpg20221009_125858.thumb.jpg.41c84d3882416b6080967b5dc91efec1.jpg

The other seller had a box with a load of interesting stuff rattling around, unfortunately they didn't want to budge from £1 a car even after me pulling 15 or so out, so some went back including another dot-dash wheel Dragon Wheels and an overpainted but unbroken grilled Charger dragster. Worse still was them revealing that all the "good" stuff was listed on eBay already, and proceeded to show me lots of listings at £9.99 starting bid per car. Thanks but no thanks love.

Took these off her hands though

The Flying Bug...

Well, here's what I came up with. There's been a lot of filling, filing, sanding, painting, glueing and swearing involved

20221009_140239.thumb.jpg.a7d29e6564c31a8e35bf6445cfb1263a.jpg20221009_140158.thumb.jpg.7014c3c96eb73a802e1ec8d3c2323f8c.jpg20221009_140807.thumb.jpg.94bc6f641d9658352a4b2da8b439e0af.jpg20221009_140457.thumb.jpg.1e80d7a6f1c9c5d92dac70c3495e2f0d.jpg20221009_140438.thumb.jpg.9791a82b3ab758a10d802ed5fec7ec65.jpg

Wheels are off the Hot Wheels Mario Kart - I found a version with rubber tyres but only the backs were suitable as the fronts pushed over an expanding peg rather than using an axle, and they were a different yellow. Shame, as they were really wide but fitted perfectly.

I make no apologies for painting it yellow as I have a thing for yellow Beetles. Glass and interior is from the earlier 1500 car, and has revealed that the roof is not the same shape! Still, it just about works, and should pair well with the Mini Ha Ha that got similar treatment a few years ago - maybe I should get a new sticker/decal for the bonnet too?

I kinda get why they’d eBay a lot of it, the car boot traditionally is haunted by folk without two pennies to scratch their arse with. In their perception they’ll think they’ll be worth millions on eBay but honestly Lesney made millions of each one so very few are worth what you’d call big money. I guess they’d think that the ‘good stuff’ would be worth keeping back.

If I keeled over tomorrow though, all my stuff would be ‘four for a quid’ at the car boot. I don’t blame them in a sense as time/effort would mean sorting though the lot would be an absolute nightmare!

Made by Shinsei apparently. Their Mini Power stuff seems to date from the '70s. Judging by what people on eBay are asking for them, you might have had a result there...

Those are worth quite a lot. I got mine in a swap for my Minichamps Opel Omega some years ago. I think I may have been ripped off however I have had a lot of joy from this model. I'd be interested to get a RoadworkUK appraisal of it.

Mine is in a cardboard dealer box. I remember admiring it in the 1990 Solido catalogue when they were current.

You're very kind. I must get mine out at some point. It, too is in the dealer box, and it came from Trago Mills in Liskeard, of all places. I presume they bought an unsold job lot; it was like £6 or something daft. Trago used to pretty good for 1:18s. They rarely stock them these days; you might find the occasional fairly indifferent Welly if you're lucky, and at far from bargain prices.

Of course, I check every time I pass, nevertheless.

The Solido XM is a very nice model, though. I've not measured it, but it looks to be a little way under 1:18 scale. One unusual thing about it is that it comes unfinished; the pillar trims are sticky-backed and come on a separate sheet, which isn't ideal for ham-fisted 12 year-olds (such was I when I bought mine). The pillars themselves, such as they are, are part of the tinted glass moulding. The metal roof is actually a cap that sits atop that glass moulding and isn't actually attached to the main bodyshell. Similarly, the tailgate, which is pretty fragile, is suspended from that plastic moulding, but has a metal part attached to it to hold the rear spoiler, etc.

One cool feature is the little button under the front air dam; you press it to raise the bonnet far enough to get a fingertip underneath. Not that there's much to behold under the bonnet, though; just a fairly crude relief plastic moulding of the engine with some chrome highlights.

The wheels are nice; shame that I coloured the dark sections in on mine. One day I might get around to refinishing them.

Solido also did a Pug 605 in a similar format. I don't have one, and I don't one, though; from what I've seen it isn't a patch on the XM for quality or accuracy.

Yeah the engine is disappointing .

I also have the 605, again in a dealer box complete with a compliments slip from Arundel Peugeot and date stamped 1995. I bought it from ebay in 2009 and the seller had messaged me hoping it was going to a good home as it had belonged to his late father. It is in good but slightly tired condition but when I got it the smell of cigarettes from it was overpowering and it was covered in a greasy film of tar.

It's nicer than the XM in some ways as the doors and boot open and the wheel design is more attractive. It also has steering and the whole model is pretty well proportioned. As far as I know the only other 1/18 Solido made was the Safrane although that's a lot later being from 1992. Obviously they have a wide range today but back then they seemed exotic compared to a Bburago or Polistil.

Bit of a diecast drought at the moment. (Not helped by the 1:1 scale cars being pricks this month. £400 dealer-only airbag module replacement on the Corsa and, this week, the wheel bearing on the Merc doing it's best Lancaster bomber impersonation so that's having to go in at the weekend!). Was wanting to head up to the model fair at Gateshead but the above woes have flushed that down the shitpan.

No decent Hot Wheels cases for a while at the usual suspects, Tesco are not even bothering with round here for Matchbox. So I was heartened to see a full to the brim Hot Wheels dump bin at the big Asda today, normally there's not a lot there. (No Majorette sadly, save for a few bendy buses). Previous case stuff sadly, but I at least found a few I've been searching for.

I had that DS for a few years in the early 2000s, I didn't realise it was that old.  If it helps, apart from the adjustable suspension it was a less than satisfactory model (as were a fair few 1/18 Solido classic cars in the early to mid 1990s) and most of it was rather crude plastic.

I had a Solido 1/18 Beetle in the mid 1990s and it wasn't great either. It was quite basic and only had opening doors. A few years later I bought a Maisto example (which I still have) and it was far better quality and came with full opening features and suspension.

Some amazing purchases here! Really giving me the itch to get back out there looking. My house move is now imminent so I'll be delving back into my boxes of cars at some point and getting some back out in the fresh air.

Any of you care to show off some of your displays?

I have the Solido 1/18 DS, the suspension was great but I could never make my mind up whether I wanted it to sit at rest or not. It wasn’t especially detailed but not a bad crack. Does anyone remember the 1/18 Majorette range?

I had a Solido 1/18 Beetle in the mid 1990s and it wasn't great either. It was quite basic and only had opening doors. A few years later I bought a Maisto example (which I still have) and it was far better quality and came with full opening features and suspension.

The 2Cv is the only model car I've kept since childhood. I remeber being very impressed with it as a kid, but it is a bit crude up close. It has actually become a book-end in recent years after being packed away in a box for ages.

I love all the 'bits' on it - the separate overriders, indicators, door handles etc. All very fragile and nicely done - they do make it incredibly difficult to keep dust-free though, so apologies about the state of it

It's got really pliable true-to-life suspension which seemed like a real novelty on a 1:18 car. I had various Burago and Maisto things, and a couple of more expensive models, but none had working suspension apart from this.

The bonnet is 'locked' shut with a tab on the number plate, which you push in to release it (actually quite similar to the real thing) and the engine is quite passable

The interioe is basic but recognisable as a 1960s 2CV. Apologies for the dust - if I saw somebody else post this I'd make some pretty harsh judgements about their cleanliness! You really can't get in there through the open roof and keep it clean though. It really needs a bath at some point.

This is the closest I've looked at it for a long time, and it's definitely not a 'great' model, but I have fond memories of it which I suppose is why it's survived so long. Presumably the DS is now worthless, maybe I should finally pick one up?
