Shite in Miniature II

Any interest in Trainshite?

This is an old Hornby Dublo 3 rail, think they were last produced in 1964,

so this stuff is over 50 years old.

It started in the mid-'70's when Dad picked up a bit of track and an engine in a junkshop.

Over the last few years anytime a few bits turn up they were purchased, now is the time to start piecing it together.

Takes a bit of time and patience to get things running smoothly,

got a basic layout done, still to be finalised and screwed down.

Not a bad way to spend a couple of hours now and then with the old man.

Have a few crappy pics.

We should start a model trainshite thread in the off section, if we don't have one already.

There are more model railroaders on here.

Here, here.

I have a Marklin layout with much of it dating from the late 50s and early 60s and 70s.

I've got some more Minix shite. These seem hard to get at decent prices as I want unboxed/playworn ones to restore but there seem to be far more boxed ones that go for £10-20 each. I lost out on one batch of damaged projects but this was a job lot of eight, unboxed but in good condition with all bumpers intact so probably a better bet.

These are post-1972 cheapened versions with black bases and wheels

The Simca is a particularly unusual choice (it's LHD too) and one I especially wanted. The black wheels are just featureless discs and really spoil the toolmaker's efforts at making accurate bodies, but you've seen how much these models can be improved with a bit of DIY and that's the plan here.

I had all of those Minixes from new.  Sadly, I didn't treat them terribly well and though I do still have most of them, they're not in the best condition.

As there seems to be a lot of love for car transporters I suppose I should share this. Rubbish pic because dark but I've just cobbled this up from inherited Matchbox bits. The trailer is one of a pair that came out of my dad's toybox years ago but their tractor units (Big Bedford S-types I think) have long since disappeared. I found the TK at my grandad's and with a bit of adjustment managed to make it fit. Needs some paint now.

Still on the Minix theme, this is a resin kit of what the Minix bus would look like in the same scale as the cars, which is supposed to fit the motorised Minic Motorways chassis. I wrote all about it on my blog here: http://rustyoldrubbish.blogspot.co.uk/2015/05/best-kit-ever.html

There are only five Minix cars I'm missing if anyone can help:

Austin 1800

Hillman Imp

Hillman Minx

Rambler Classic

Vauxhall Cresta (rare!)

I'd also like to get hold of a few of the caravans for my fairground models but despite being allegedly the most common Minix model they go for silly prices on greedbay.

Still looking for Landcrab, Imp, Rambler and Cresta myself!   I make a rule not to buy these on ebay as its too easy and too expensive.....I have a spare Minx bodyshell somewhere but no base.   I don't understand why the caravans go for so much, either.   The only one I have has a busted A frame which I shall one day repair* with matchtsticks or something....

Co-incidentally I did pick up a V4 Corsair yesterday (in white) which I haven't come across before.

Minix cars look great on Matchbox transporters simply because of all the colour variations which is much more realistic.

Like Eddy, I had most of these from new - there was a hardware store in our village which went bankrupt and they sold all their Minix off for buttons - still have a bus in its original box but the cars are all gone and had to be replaced!    Can't remember what it came with but I even had a Minix tent at one time - some sort of camping set?

Sometimes my imagination gets carried away! Here's a flight of fancy I knocked up, a Triang car carrier converted to road use. Probably hopelessly impractical in the real world.

I have to say I've never heard of those Minix models before, but they look good.

I got a 1:43 Xantia for £4 (£3.95 really as it included a plastic bag!). Quite pleased with it even though the Chevrons on the bonnet are upside down!
