Shite in Miniature II

Well then... as was typical, Alan had only just set out his wares at the point I was scuttling out the doors around 9.30, which is why he never appears in the main write-up:

IMG_20240119_0922222.thumb.jpg.8d7d3e901f07a6bbec63e5843b3025e6.jpg

By the time I'd glugged my coffee and made a stab at editing my terrible blurry photos, Market Blokey had made an effort to offload his Beetle overload...

IMG_20240119_0926132.thumb.jpg.0ec73e79b7d1c6f0c8e1cd0a96a61d33.jpg

I was once again vaguely distracted by a local (Code 2?) Lledo Morris LD150, which surely doesn't bode well for the future...

IMG_20240119_0927052.thumb.jpg.23735e85e63ec5d3f4d817c2d7e6c800.jpg

And the Tat Box appeared to have been raided in the interim too.

IMG_20240119_0929232.thumb.jpg.1ad0593cc9cf3d73bb0d1645c45c19e4.jpg

But - all was not lost, and despite numb fingers (even under two pairs of gloves), I didn't leave empty-handed...

So what was snaffled from the deep-freeze of St George's today?

My initial sift brought these...

I'd have the Lesney VW bus for £3

Market blokey seems to have a Beetle infestation - what's the black oval? Interested possibly

I thought there might be a few dub-lickers in the general vicinity...

IMG_20240119_1029202.thumb.jpg.67950f75f9aa2cb21a5b5e8269bb680d.jpg

Lesney T1 has lost some of its transfers, but the paint isn't bad overall.

Some touching-up of wheels etc is apparent, though.

I believe the repainted oval-window is by Morestone, and although scruffy is complete and undamaged.

Might tidy alright - yours for £3 each if you want them!

Lesney Ford Prefect is one that usually provokes some interest, even if they're often a bit the worse for wear:

IMG_20240119_1028282.thumb.jpg.420cb45a2aedad3174cf20d2b88545f8.jpg

This may be a repaint - the wheels have definitely been dabbed with black paint, but I'm not sure about the body. It seems oddly matt, but it might just be dirt causing it.

As often seems to be the way, the back end of the base has needed repair at some point - this appears to have been done with solder (or possibly lead?):

IMG_20240119_1028372.thumb.jpg.4e21b6dbed77eaf32e46fe6fe6d0cf68.jpg

Typical Ford.

So, far from mint - but could be a reasonable enough project, if anyone's keen, for £2?

This Husky Sunbeam Alpine is one that I seldom see with the windscreen still intact, so that was why I nabbed it.

IMG_20240119_1027252.thumb.jpg.7b44ff3f9501cce1406b3272bc5a6e15.jpg

It's actually not in bad shape - the other side has much less paint loss.

If anyone fancies it for £3, let me know!

The regular wheels iteration of the Lesney Jeep is one that never seems to crop up without the windscreen surround broken off - but at least this has a full complement of tyres:

IMG_20240119_1027352.thumb.jpg.a9e08815091ac981d08940ab075b231e.jpg

I think I'll be keeping this one, for a while anyway, just in case more snow photoshoots present themselves...

And lastly, a bit newer but this Corgi BMW E30 is in quite nice shape:

IMG_20240119_1027562.thumb.jpg.817f1d71797dcdb27947b33c90869bd5.jpg

Seemingly an early version, going by the wheels.

IMG_20240119_1028032.thumb.jpg.1f396628781b1da2ad0496d789ed8276.jpg

I seem to recall these were notorious for shedding their doors, so intact and clean is maybe a bit of a rarity.

IMG_20240119_1028172.thumb.jpg.182495a14d707c338ba1aec0caae74b6.jpg

Also available, at the £2 mark!

Can’t believe inflation has hit the 50p box!

To be fair, back in 2019-2020 I always considered the '50p box' being somewhat an enigma, when 'Charity' shops around here in England (20m north of the capital) have always priced tat condition examples alongside eBay 'antique' seller pricing

I went to Welwyn Garden City last year and saw well-used found-in-attic 1970s toys in the window of BHF at £50+

Plus also a pint of euro-fizzed Stella Artois in my flat-roof local is now £5.40

Less pints = More Lesney.

So that proves it then...    when there has been a clear-down in such a short time (under 2 hours) then even at £3 he could still sell them twice-over.

Any Lesneys/Morestones of that age should be a fiver really

Request time, then...

IMG_20240119_1023402.thumb.jpg.d69ec23fa9b141fdad0f547976486ef3.jpg

Despite some raiding, the early MoY 4-Ton Leyland box van in Jacobs livery was still kicking about:

IMG_20240119_1028522.thumb.jpg.2eb5649466720333fb23e25a7bcb6090.jpg

Some paint loss to the roof, but broadly clean.

IMG_20240119_1029032.thumb.jpg.c11bf1994f0908a18f7886e5030cbb4d.jpg

Coca-Cola Karrier in alright fettle, bar a slight dinge in the tailboard.

Secured for @flat4alfa at £5 for the pair!

The Corgi Circus Elephant Transport Cage was so clean and unmarked that I thought it was a replica at first.

IMG_20240119_1029302.thumb.jpg.3c16a97bca18f39c79cb469e16966c3f.jpg

Very fine diecast bars are intact, sticker bright and well-attached.

IMG_20240119_1029362.thumb.jpg.eb680070b1a883d713f888dddfb63394.jpg

And the up-and-over opening mechanism still works like a charm.

IMG_20240119_1032372.thumb.jpg.10bd507b695461e2de6e2766612e7398.jpg

Well well well.

IMG_20240119_1031452.thumb.jpg.44ccd5f97404b51796650f006cca4bb4.jpg

No elephant inside, sadly, but still a great survivor.

Interestingly, the writing moulded onto the underside of the roof panel describes it as 'Corgi Kits' rather than 'Corgi Toys' - bit hard to photograph properly, I'm afraid.

IMG_20240119_1030582.thumb.jpg.0a9cb12de499fc428fb24dd8eace4fe2.jpg

But! A nice piece - bought with @FakeConcern in mind, after he was tagged - any interest for £2?

The Lone Star not-a-Corvette 'Gran Turismo' was nabbed just because they always seem to have a missing front axle, for some reason.

IMG_20240119_1027462.thumb.jpg.9e30ee733c3463b4d15a47ea5ef21f2b.jpg

I like it, but I'd be happy to let it go for £3 if anyone likes it more!

Good haul there.

The Corgi E30 is nice, I have a Police one but it didn't come with a roof bar or anything and neither did the implausible Turbos BMW 635 it came with in the set, which is similarly unadorned.

I've just done the finishing of teh Vitesse Pioneer Lancia.

We went off to Hobby Craft for a bit of Humbrol white 22 and some super glue gel. No gloss white, so I ended up with semi-matte. And since when did a little Humbrol tin cost £3. Kids need about £20 a week pocket money if they want to do a model plane by the looks of it. I remember when they were only...

Anyway, back to the Lancia. First up was the wipers. I used Humbrol clear fix for those as super glue has a habit of fogging up styrene windows. By the way, Vitesse made the wipers with the wrong orientation. They did RHD ones, not the correct LHD ones.

DSCF1710.thumb.JPG.f6f43e078e55736e8b97e5895c83ff7c.JPG

Then the mirrors went on, super glue for them as the need something strong.

DSCF1711.thumb.JPG.f30ab850275df05768d525e308ad031a.JPG

A quick dab of silver on the mirrors...

DSCF1714.thumb.JPG.3805e7eb470cd6a743b70aa9b6c92348.JPG

and then one with the white touching in.

DSCF1715.thumb.JPG.a8f4ae47153e4a333135b80fe199b14b.JPG

The rear wing looks better, but I think the actual car has a line of blue going across the top of the spoiler.

DSCF1716.thumb.JPG.6fbc641fd047c71aa624e4c653cb2425.JPG

Then it was the front spoiler ends.

DSCF1720.thumb.JPG.f18ca1f42b81b5ece50a1228bd39a5e4.JPG

All finished

Even though it looks a bit wobbly in some places, it is better than a blank blue model, and in the flesh you have to look real close to see the iffy bits.

DSCF1724.thumb.JPG.049c8aa37f146691c68a02625be0fd82.JPG

Next on the transfer project list is another Solido R5 Turbo from Record.

I'll be doing this over the weekend and updating as I go.

Lastly, there were a few bits and bobs from Alan's stall which I felt couldn't go unpurchased, for a mere 50p:

IMG_20240119_1024092.thumb.jpg.4cad549297bafac553a3f6ed42fce298.jpg

You know my policy - no good Matchbox or Hot Wheels left behind, at this price point anyway.

So we've a Ford Focus RS, a Honda Civic with rather overgrown spoiler, a '55 Chevrolet sedan, a '68 Plymouth Barracuda, and a '65 Pontiac GTO. They're all pretty much box-fresh (the GTO has a chip taken out of a rear corner, though).

The idea is that these will be played-with, as carefully as possible, probably as part of a race track setup once The Nieces are old enough to not want to smash everything...

Screenshot_20240119-1421032.thumb.png.ffc6b7d1bfc743e3c771df3cc69ba4bf.png

I know, a fond hope. But I do kinda like boyracerben on Instagram and his Hot Wheels setup, so...

Oddly, I nearly passed the Honda up as some sort of Teamz/ Motormax confection, as I didn't quite recognise the shape and the Hot Wheels badging was so well hidden.

IMG_20240119_1024222.thumb.jpg.d250449d68042cf1e4197b40e75a8249.jpg

IMG_20240119_1024442.thumb.jpg.6bfa089abd86260f19cb20d087437da8.jpg

IMG_20240119_1024322.thumb.jpg.3ac97cc10d62b99d5f2d80ae7fd9cd53.jpg

Only the tiniest of Hot Wheels logos visible above the lower front wheel. Yet a big 'Malaysia' at the top of the base.

Odd little thing.

Excellent site on these by Nicholas Martin: https://www.diecastvintagetoys.co.uk/esso-petrol-pump-series

Sadly I was away home to defrost myself before I saw this - will keep my eyes open for next week, though.

Morestone Foden x1 only - I found the tipper lying loose at the bottom of the box, and then added it back on to the chassis - hence some pics have a complete Foden and others only the chassis!

Ah, that explains the weird proportions - couldn't quite work out what it was trying to be.

Still surprised at the barely visible Hot Wheels branding underneath - generally it's quite prominent underneath, and I thought mainline HWs usually had some sort of tampo print with the logo displayed on the body somewhere.

A cold old day at the market, but a fairly worthwhile one.

So stay warm, kids - and Happy Friday!

I know there's a few Hotwheels versions,I'd be especially keen to get the black one. Also, any 1/43 would be good.Larger ones may still be good, although I don't really have the space for them 🤔
