Shite in Miniature II

Yes, it's obvious really. A stack of work and all that, but it's better than spending my evenings watching TV

Thanks, I loved that! Just watched a couple more clips of it on YouTube. The clip from Pendle slot racing I was cheering you on. Best thing I've seen in ages. Especially when the blue one takes several attempts to get in. I was almost shouting 'GO ON, GO ON!!!' at it. I salute you.

Here's a couple of snaps of my white Minichamps Capri2 with a couple of modifications, roof needs to be plack, and needs a chin spoiler though. Boot spoiler from a Vanguards 2.8i Capri, had to jack up the rear axle on both mine as they didn't sit right, wedged a but of card under the diff hump, job jobbed.

I had that Mini when I was a nipper, 50p is a bargain, and that casting has had a seriously long life with Corgi

Posted

They've modded it with the doors now shut, and tout it in their souvenir range, plus it did get modified with fatter arches and new bumper and grille to make it look more modern. Corgi really have had their moneys worth out of that

I'm trying to collect every release of the 1/36 Mini, rally versions excepted. Still got a long way to go on the pre 1989 casting such as the silver one above though.

In other news, I finished the Lego Arocs tonight :)

Its enormous, at least 1/16 scale I'd say!

Hours of fun with the pneumatics to follow!

They had some nerve selling those late models where the door tooling was clearly shagged. Ruins the models, and it's a shame because the wheels are lovely.

That said, this is the same company who went on to poop out landfill grade nonsense like this:

Yesterday I went to a car boot sale , unfortunately the only diecasts were bloody Lledo vans and one Dinky Sunbeam Alpine roadster that looked as if it had been dug up and was apparently " Worth £10 all day mate, just look on eBay "

But I found this- Car Capers, 50p- bargain.

Seems there Re half a dozen editions, this one is from about 71/2 I think and is the one I had as an 8 year old.

The mini is not unlike examples of the real thing, big sagging patches of wob in the A panels.

I had that edition of Car Capers as a youngster, a bit of a formative influence on me. Still got it, and another later version I picked up in a charity shop.

On the subject of cardboard car-related stuff:

I'm sure my grandparents had that version of Car Capers too, picked up from a jumble sale or car boot no doubt. I like the fact the kid on the front of the Design-a-Car has designed a Vauxhall Chevette.

I had that Car Capers too, from new!  1971 seems about right.  I've seen later editions featuring different cars, Would be fun to collect them all, if I had time and space.

Car Capers brings back many happy memories, the one I had the longest had a Corsair and Cortina Mk II so must have been slightly earlier.  I've always wondered why they included a Hispanio Suiza of all things!

Posted

I think I have about 3 sets of Car Capers, all stuffed into the one original box.   One of the sets is my original childhood one which I used to get to inflict on the family as part of the general Xmas Eve "festive" activities.    I used to like having the Hispano in there because it was the one I had seen at Beaulieu.   I agree,  its an odd choice of subject, though.   I think my first set had the Mk2 Cortina, FC VX4/90 and an Arrow Vogue or Gazelle.    They seem to have been gradually, rather than completely, updated between editions.

A few more photos of some of my minichod, note the JM spec Rover P6B VIP edition and an Eastern Block Shove It on Vanguards Cortina GT rims with dog dish caps, looked better than the Rostyles it wore as it's an L, not GLS, the RS2K is also a code 3 with a dashboard from a Vanguards to make RHD.

Husky Commer in Blue???  DO NOT PAINT!

If it is it's very good!  They've managed not to get any on the red doors, or the windows.  Those were a lovely little model, good find either way.
