I reckon if the brakes are stuck on it wouldn't be too hard for the lucky* winner to sort out before they go. Plus, as you've mentioned it, it'd be up to them how they removed it as you'd be absolved of any sort of responsibility.

They are actually quite sought after now as someone else mentioned, I suppose it's just figuring out what a rough market value is/how much you'd be happy to see for it. I'd humbly suggest doing it before the MOT expires though so it's easier for people to drive it away if that's what they intend.

I have just gone through the whole thread (skimmed really) and am amazed at the work that you put into this and still talked yourself down!

Count me in for numbers too.

Got to go to Karate now and its main driver is out til 9, so I'll update the thread then I think...

Roffles are kind of exciting.... hmm

Having organised my first now, they are rather fun. This needs to happen.

We haven't really, its just Matt's "commuting runabout" (family car needed to be big enough for baby seats and crash test paranoia) and he managed to save up enough TOIL and cancelled rest days to book the whole of December off. We were stupid not to use it that month really, but it certainly taught us a lesson!

It pretty much a 4-5 days a week car apart from that though.

At £4 a pop you will be selling it for only £236. Not enough. I would do at least £8. That way it will keep out the riff raff too as you do want someone who actually wants the car and the difference between £4 and £8 might be better IMO

It will sell for £8 a ticket too as there looks like a lot of interest in this. I will be wanting a few and maybe also somewhere else to live if I win.

Looks like good shite to me, well worth trying to find someone who will buy it to repair. Raffle, why not. Good shite of the Old Order.

The only downside is this might be the end for my shite "career".

Front runner for Astra replacement at the mo is a 2002 Fiat Stilo.

I did look at a P reg Hyundai and a Ford Ka on local Gumtree though.

stilo - utter shite :D

All 3 fit that category in my view...anyway Autoshite is more a frame of mind rather than what car you drive. Even Audi drivers may still be welcome here!

I don't mind having a quick look on my way back next Saturday if it's still stuck. As Mr spud has mentioned, there is the possibility of the brake linings coming away from the shoes - I've just had that on the Kangoo which can stand around for weeks at a time.

I think I might have to lose my raffle virginity on this one, even if it is over the other side of the world.  My dad had one of these (an estate, and in a rather more diarrhoea-y shade of brown, but otherwise very similar) when I were a nipper, and I always fancied trying one.

Well.

I'm going to see if I can get it drier and try and get the mould of the seats.

I have a vax, do we think that'll be the thing to use on the seats?

Then see if I can get the dehumidifier in there somehow?

I have un-bunged the plugholes in the boot and under the drivers feet.

If I do raffle it, I'll start a thread with the numbers already on here? Is that OK or do we need to start afresh if/when its all official?

Thanks, any tips for carpet removal then? I can't really see what's holding it in! The centre console tray is trapping the front, but I don't know how to remove it...

Ah, the joys* of sticking Vauxhall hand brakes, in the late 80's we used to keep old company cars in the carpark of a warehouse in Daventry and once a month a couple of us from the transport dept. would go up on a Saturday morning to meet employees wanting to buy 'em .

It was well known that ALL Cavaliers and Astras would do this ,so we left the hand brakes off, but for comedy reasons I would pull them on as hard as physically possible if I knew my mate Alan was down for the next Saturday. And yes I broke the cable a couple of times.

It caused great hilarity driving Mk2 Cavaliers and Astras round the warehouse carpark with the back wheels locked solid, good test of the clutch though!

I concur on the inexplicable desirability and rise in value of these , and even I,a Vauxhall hater, would pay £7.50 ea. for 2 tickets

I wonder what is a realistic market value for this. I thought these were pretty sought after now, but I see there is quite a tidy Bader-spec one on the blue forum for £450 that the lad is having a battle to sell. This one has a short MOT and the shitty OHV engine, but looks pretty straight and unmolested and is a good colour. I reckon if I had this I'd probably ask £375 for it assuming it could be driven away, might be possible to get a little more but it would be a drawn-out miserable process so i would probably hope to get 325 or 350.

Wow, that seems cheap. I expect the deeply unexciting badermatic spec is putting people off.

I see it the way Mr B does to be honest. It's a 5 door too remember, so no OMGGTE type stuff going on really.

I would go for £6 a ticket considering short mot and a bit of bodywork to do. That would net you £354. I don't want it myself though. I already have an Astra I don't need. I had a poo brown 1.3 estate a while back and it was a good car although was going rusty even then, about 20 years ago. Good luck whatever you decide to do though.

To be honest, while I'm no Astra expert, that's about where I saw it too. May yet be worth asking around perhaps? Can't see it really being one for the pervs, but then there aren't that many Mk1s around full stop these days.

Any astray mk1 forums around?

Ha, my phone autocorrects astra to ashtray..

Soz, I cant seem to get the link off the ebay app.

Hey, sell it for what you think it will sell for. If someone does actually want it a couple of extra quid a ticket wont bother them.

Think I have managed the link

This estate was over £800 but is in nicer condition.

Brown 80s Vauxhalls are my bag!

So I'm in for the Roffle if there is one!!

Christ, if you think the DisAstra is a lost cause you should take a look at some of my former daily drivers... Perhaps I'm an optimist...
