Back to Blighty and, although there is nothing to give me quite as much horn as that Citroen Axel, tat continues to crop up quite frequently.

 

1. RAF Denham and a selection of three Saabs side by side: a rare sight, sadly

2. Young chap was driving this Acclaim down the Kings Road

3. Nocturnal 5-series

4. The famous Honda Jazz of Westminster

5, 6, 7. Glorious British tin in Pimlico - I imagine these driven by some hero. I particularly enjoyed the cigar case on the parcel shelf

8. Grotty MGB in Tooting Broadway

9. Jags for sale in Lower Heswall on the Wirral. These looked superb. No price though which is not really a good sign

A quick jaunt to the Isles of Scilly. I'd been before so was well prepped to spot tat. Most cars there are between 10 and 20 years old, so there's lots of stuff which is getting thin on the ground on the mainland, but little that makes you do a massive double-take. Sadly the local (incredibly crusty) SD1 had now disappeared.

 

1. The local vintage car - there is apparently a Morris 8 van around too

2. The Land Rover still rules the roost.

3. Very rare: a local SCY number plate. And it's a very clean special edition Skoda. WIN.

4. This Ford duo got me quite excited

5. Bonus hot Rover too

6. This could have been a scene from the 90s. The Suzuki was very, very clean

7. Less so the Toyota. Don't remember seeing one this old for ages

8. One of two S1 Landys spotted...

9. ...and the other

10. Double Daihatsu spot. Generally, cheaper 4x4s were everywhere.

Four more from the weekend: a local-registered Suzuki with incredibly shite advertising, and a Reliant at Dunkeswell on the way back (with bonus Corsa content).

 

And four from 2013 - a shite pseudo-vintage van, a Daihatsu, the SD1, and that S1 Landy once again.

That white Manta is in Earl's Court isn't it? It's always there. Always. There used to be a Fiat 126, a red 127 Fiorino van, a very early Honda CRX, and all sorts of prime chod round there.

Past couple of days have yielded a quite nice B in the best colour, a stunning old Porsche, a surprisingly unbarried Caddy pick-up and a Rover with a plate for more valuable than the car.

 

@Ghosty - yep, just off Earls Court Road. Most of the rest of the interesting stuff round that areas has all gone - just that and the green Cortina estate remain (plus a mythical Renault 12 estate)

There is much eye candy of both the human and vehicle variety. Amazing how much Euro stuff was around - French and Italian in particular, some uber rare in the UK (Fiat 1800), some exotic (Quattroporte)....

A September jaunt to the south of France yielded surprisingly little glory. I think there are massive differences between well-off and less well-off areas - a month previously, a different and very rural part of France was teeming with tat. However, I was pleased to see the very shabby R8. The J5, a 1981 model, belonged to a pair of very affluent hipsters.

Quick update from London.

 

1. Often seen in the Fulham area, this is badged a 1000SEL.

2. Jaaaag

3, 4. The owner of this also has a 20s Frazer Nash. A good egg.

5. Quite a knackered 900 convertible. These are still farily thick on the ground in London. 900s, though, are disappearing fast.

6. Sonnet! Never seen one in the wild before.

7. Relatively early S-class in Richmond

8, 9. The plate on this had some guff about "Retro Classics" so I assume it's enthusiast owned rather than some old dear.

10. Someone clearly likes their old Brit tat.

11. Haven't seen one of these old Mazdas in years.

12. Old Merc - still a lot of these around.

13. I've seen this Bristol a fair bit.

14. Particularly pleased to pap this one - the oldest I've seen recently and magnificently knackered.

15. Nissan?

16, 17. Not shite, just shit.

18. Loved seeing this roaring through the traffic.

19. The local American car dealer often has some baffling stuff outside.

20. A very upmarket spot.

15, 16. This Volga M21 is behind Harrods, used to advertise properties for Russians. Very rare in this country.

Final batch:

 

1, 2, 3. Was really pleased to see this old Alfa. Though it looks OK in the photos it was frillier than a lady of the night's knickers.

4. Plate definitely worth more than the van.

5. Royal tat. You occasionally see Prince Philip going for a spin around the area, driving himself (steed of choice: a dark green Metrocab - hero).

6. Friend's Renault 12 beautifully restored.

7. This VW was a bit of a state.

8. Golf had some of the worst paint I've seen. Bonus Beemer behind it as well.

9, 10. Bristol parked up in Eaton Square.

There is something really good about seeing stuff like this in that there London, still. Biggest reason I used to love the yearly trip up for the Xmas lights as a kid was all the tasty motors running around that you only saw in Observer books. Exactly like that AC (200 YPH) - it's a Greyhound, c.1962. Brilliant spots!

Christ. Been a while since I updated this. Luckily things are still quite thick on the ground here - particularly pleased with the splendidly grotty Cortina in Putney and the Y-reg Maestro in Fulham. The R12 in Earls Court is a bit of a local legend and is owned by a lady in her tenth decade.

That Cortina in the last post is brilliant, somehow it just "fits" the surroundings in a strange way.

I also love the decrepit Morris van on the previous page, there is just something achingly cool about an old 50s or 60s motah parked in the street looking just as it would have done when a banger 30 years ago, still clearly being used regularly.

In one of your previous posts is a Red SD1 and a Rover 820 Vitesse hiding around the corner. SD1 is still on a SORN, 820 Vitesse has disappeared from database.

 

Where in the South of France did you go? Looks a bit like Carcassonne, I used to live near Beziers.

 

The Black SD1 in London used to belong to PeteM of this parish I believe.

Really? Strange as I know or at least remember PeteM of this parish owning it for a year or so a couple of years ago. He then sold it to someone down south so it's had a couple of owners since Pete?

Great thread I've only just found. This is from a couple of years ago, before I knew of this forum but I'm sure you'll all still appreciate it. Just parked in a side street near Waterloo, so I think it's technically SE1, but very nearly South West.

 

 

 

Not nearly as cool as the GS van further up this thread but pretty good nonetheless. As mentioned elsewhere London seems to be full of this sort of stuff just being used as daily drivers. Take a bus from Hammersmith to Hyde Park Corner, sit upstairs offside for the best view and you are guaranteed to see all sorts of stuff.

 

Just noticed the BX behind the SM too! Now I'm trained in the ways of Autoshite I won't miss that next time!

She bought the red T-reg R12 estate (featured on an earlier page) new. It died a couple of years back, so, aged 89, she went out and bought the M-reg. Surely honorary membership beckons?

 

@LordSterling - neither sadly - east of Bayonne first time, Port Grimaud second time. Former infinitely preferable on the tat / comedy French people front. That said found myself not too far away from your old stomping ground in September. Pics to come. They're quite decent.
