On an N plate? Were they made that late?

Posted

Possibly even later as I'm sure British Steel in Shotton had some 1978 registered ones.

Cor, I very much approve of your pic dump! Shitty areas just don't seem that shitty any more do they? Or perhaps they are.

That kid in the base model Sierra shot looks like he's about to mug that bloke!

I want to be the proud owner of a new FSO in Kirkby!

B360WNB. I wonder how long it lasted?

Here's a scouse car park photo. Click to view whole picture.

Look carefully at the GM saloon on the right next to the Renner 11, it seems to have a Cavalier front but it's a GL spec two door???? The Opel Ascona had a different front end so it can't be one of those.

I think it may be a Cavalier GLS. The mobile shop looks like an ex Ever Ready Leyland FG

Last time I went to Bootle (about four years back) it still did.

S'funny. I work around some of the areas in those shots and had trouble recognising any of them.

The one with the kid in a Toledo was the back of the old maisonettes on St.Oswald St. Whole lot was demolished about five years ago. Giant Tesco now.

I think I work about 400 yds from the shot with the Mk1 Cav and W plate XJ6. Even there is a lot nicer than it was. Still an industrial area, mind.

I drive for a company based next door to them!

Being in Merseyside we're familiar with plod harassment.

I always remembered plod spec Xr3s having trims instead of the cloverleafs.

Wonder if any of these still survive?

Probably. They had 2.8i Capris for a while. They used to be fun. There was also a silver Mk5 RS2000 they had for about three years "on loan", that never seemed to go anywhere at under 70 mph.

Blimey, what a place. Glasgow had, and still has areas with a similar level of decay.

Superb pictures though, far more interesting that 'historic' pictures that might be shown to tourists or something.

I think its far more unusual now to see a car daubed with primer patches or odd wings and doors as the owners keep them going.

Leyland FG's were made right up into the early 1980's at the Bathgate Works.

To be fair Warren minus the cars some of those pictures could have been taken in Blacon last night!

Not sure Vin but think this could be an AMC Rambler wagon of late 60's vintage.

Brilliant pictures by the way Warren, am getting to an age now where I remember places looking like this but can't seem to picture it in my head now if you know what I mean, for instance, remember delivering a package to a firm called Bert Houldings, Cold Bath St Preston, terraced houses opposite etc, now its a bloody modern University buliding and I can't for the life of me reconcile how I know it used to look with how it looks now, if that makes any sense :?:

I was looking at images of Ramblers... no recessed door handles... I am still thinking about this one. The just visible badge might say "Royale"..... or similar..... therefore Dodge, apparently.....

Posted

If it helps, the Rambler/Chrysler quizmobile also appears in a photo later on in the set....

THIS is where my dad went to school in 1934, and in 1984 where I went to study Electrical Engineering as it had changed from a school to part of Tuson College:

The bogs were still outside when I went there!

This is what the site looks like today - bloody hundreds of centrally heated student digs for long haired unwashed layabouts who attend Preston Polly.

Bert Houlding had sites all over the town, a works in De-Lacy street, one in Inkerman St, one in Ribble Bank Mill and another in New Hall Lane that I know of. I only know his because Grandfather Ted had a Torreador and used to drink with Norman - they both shared an engineering bent.

I was passing through the Edge Hill agre of liverpool couple of months ago. Great swathes of condemned houses being demolished (row upon row of edwardian terraces), paused to take a pic in the jag
