Felly Magic Posted February 9, 2015 Author Posted February 9, 2015 First seem to be in a bit of a mess in Colchester, several buses still carry their Ipswich fleetnames, and every bus is covered in bent panels
rml2345 Posted February 9, 2015 Posted February 9, 2015 ^ Glasgow to Stirling via Balfron by any chance? They usually get the eldest buses and everything is driven flat out.Brilliant wee garage. It's actually a really pleasant trip out and one that's recommended. brickwall 1
daveb47 Posted February 9, 2015 Posted February 9, 2015 Used to work for Colchester corporation transport in the 60s as a breakdown fitter.,They had a rare old collection in those days.Old Crossleys,Daimlers,Aec & Albion single cab.leyland single deckers many of which had no windscreen demising or anything. Also had a few Atlantean & bristol re.
Felly Magic Posted February 9, 2015 Author Posted February 9, 2015 The old Colchester Borough Transport depot is up for re development, even though a chunk of it has listed building status!

Although, it's like Alcatraz. Better to visit for a day, than live there and try to get out. Apparently Stirling council were paying for some of that, after Worst threatened to quit. rml2345 1
Christine Posted February 9, 2015 Posted February 9, 2015 This could go in minature Shite , but its also a bus. Bought this years ago at a swap meet for 30 quid. It's a model of a COMMER AVENGER chassis . ( Me Dad said that, and he knows everyfink about buses !! ) Other than that I know nothing about it , but one day I'll restore it. The front axle was broke, but me old Dad has made another.. most of the rest i have in a box.. It's all rivited Alooominum chassis rails, wooden engine block ,copper and ali for other parts ..Exquisite ain't it ?? Looks like an apprentice piece, must have taken hours to build..The penny gives an idea of it's size.Double click pics and they'll go big ! Skizzer, somewhatfoolish, Louise2cv and 5 others 8
Rover414 Posted February 9, 2015 Posted February 9, 2015 The mention of where are the ex Invincible Metroliners now reminded me that one of them, E906 TOJ is now with Peoplesbus in Liverpool.
Louise2cv Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UWap1P2xhuA I was just looking for stuff for Huw to watch. Honest* Some really funky looking buses in service then. They are all bland rectangles now Justin Case and oldcars 2

Split_Pin Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 Agreed, I love stuff like that. If you ever wanted to shift it I bet a bus or transport museum would bite your hand off.
jasb1963 Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 Love this thread. So much bus shite out there but I am very surprised that no one has bought this little beauty up yet; Surely one of the ugliest answers to a question that no one ever asked. JB< Charlie Croker and willswitchengage 2
Christine Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 Sure ,you're right. But it's been from pillar to post ,2 house moves...and it really needs restoring. It's very fragile now . Have you seen anything like it before ? I did wonder if it was stolen from a museum..
worldofceri Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 I sometimes see an old V reg Bedford coach on school bus duty. No pics I'm afraid, but the reg number is DDT 292V...Google is your friend. Can't say I care for the livery. brickwall and cros 2

Sealtainn Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 I have a soft spot for buses having been a driver for Arriva London South and driving the 137s from Streatham Hill to Oxford Circus. I learnt and took my test in an Olympian (my examiner was the guy who drove The Knight Bus from Harry Potter to the premiere in Leicester Sq). I was lucky enough to pass my test and get 4 months driving the Routemasters with a conductor before they were replaced by the single-crewed Wright Eclipse Gemini. At the time the Routemasters were taken out of service they were offered to us drivers for £2,000 a week which would have been deducted weekly from our wages. Seeing what they are selling for now, I wish I had purchased one cros and brickwall 2

Sealtainn Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 Damn my sausage fingers They were selling them for £2,000 with payments deducted weekly from our wages, I've seen them going for £10,000-£15,000.Used to have an average take-home of £450 a week, more on the weeks when you did split shifts so you did a couple of runs in morning rush hour and a couple in the evening with a 4 hour break in the middle. That was 10 years ago, not sure what sort of money they get these days
Squire_Dawson Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 When I was in London not long ago, I saw Routemasters apparently in public service. They all displayed the same destination (can't remember what, but I was near St. Paul's cathedral). What's going on there, then?
fairkens Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 It's some kind of heritage bus route I think, for la tourista
MarvinsMom Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 london transport have retained i think 8 for use on one tourist route through the city centre, for now, cos some pack of toss pot wheel chair fellas don't like having to wait 5 minutes for another new bus, which also run on the same route, so they are threatening to sue, so those last 8 busses may be living on borrowed time....
Squire_Dawson Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 That explains it, then. I was somewhat surprised when I saw not one, but two. I thought they'd all long gone.
cms206 Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 Good original RMs are fetching upwards of £30k; christ only knows why, they're fucking useless - when you're my size you can't get in them, and when you eventually do you can't see where you're going, where you've been and you spend the entire shift chasing the steering column around the cab. Driven a dozen or so different ones with different drivetrains and hated every single one of them. jbz2079, cobblers and Inspector Morose 3
MarvinsMom Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 no, they are just too say hanging on in there. shame as the routemaster is such an iconic, and beautifully engineered vehicle. been a bus driver is something i would like to try, but only in something like a routemaster with a separate cab. that way the clippy gets to deal with the public, cos if there is one thing that i cannot stand is the bloody great unwashed.... SambaS and Grundig 2
martc Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 been a bus driver is something i would like to try, but only in something like a routemaster with a separate cab. I hear the money is good, and driving a Routemaster is akin to driving a jewel spangled Rolls Royce.
MarvinsMom Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 especially if there are only those 8 left in service! are there any routemasters working elsewhere out in the provinces outside of that london?
Felly Magic Posted June 3, 2015 Author Posted June 3, 2015 Rotmaster, the most over rated sack of crap ever to grace the bus world, retarded windowlickers seem to be paying stupid money for them, I drove an Iveco powered one once, and feck me, it was uncomfy, noisy, the steering column danced like fuck, and it really did belong in PVS. The bloody things were out dated even when launched. Only kept on the road by pots of tax payers money, and operated by a militant dictatorship
Inspector Morose Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 This week I've mostly been driving this: Crash box, vacuum brakes, manual steering, no power whatsoever. A real mans bus. Absolutely fucked after only a few hours driving it. How they did full day shifts in these God only knows Sealtainn, chaseracer, cms206 and 1 other 4
MarvinsMom Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 i hate you, butler! go on, get that bus out of 'ere! doesn't it look great though. brickwall 1
