  1. My latest purchase. A Ford Explorer. I've wanted a model of this iconic movie car since I first saw the original Jurassic Park film in 1993. I think it's very cool and I've already started detailing it a bit since I took these photos, with black around the side door windows and the rear window pillars which has improved the look immensely.

That's the one Kenner TTP. I had the black launcher and pretty sure I had one of the motorbikes with it too. I think the bike didn't last long and got wrecked! The car was my favourite.

Paid a visit to the late start boot sale this morning as the weather was nice and it's on tarmac. Wasn't expecting much but there were two sellers with toy cars, one with several large 50p boxes - mostly modern Hot Wheels and Chinese stuff in there though. I did however get this Bburago 190E off him for a quid, all complete with just a bent wiper

The other seller had a box with a load of interesting stuff rattling around, unfortunately they didn't want to budge from £1 a car even after me pulling 15 or so out, so some went back including another dot-dash wheel Dragon Wheels and an overpainted but unbroken grilled Charger dragster. Worse still was them revealing that all the "good" stuff was listed on eBay already, and proceeded to show me lots of listings at £9.99 starting bid per car. Thanks but no thanks love.

Took these off her hands though

Surprised they hadn't eBay'd this Polistil Merc

OK I have no idea about this but it piqued my interest - anyone?

Lastly, on another stall in a box full of modern plastic toot, I saw something odd. I like odd.

So that's a plastic, FWD friction motored Ferrari P4 from Kenner, 1972

I had one of those Kenner Ferraris when I was a kid in the 70s. It came with some kind of launcher, some track and some plastic cones. Can't remember what the set was originally called though.

    Welcome aboard!

Those are two very nice finds - the Corvette doesn't look like it'd be much fun to use as a phone for long conversations, what with the wheels digging into your head and all, but it's a nicely detailed model. Are you able to check if it still works?

I seem to recall similar novelty phones (Porsche 911, maybe?) where the headlights and taillights flashed and the ringer made a car-horn noise whenever a call was incoming. Weird but kinda wonderful.

Yes, novelty phones were definitely a thing in the 1980s. I just found this on ebay, https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/255699010155

Mercedes shaped phone. Was tempted to buy it, but I've got too much shite already.

There's also a Porsche 928 phone from the same era. It came in red, white or black as I recall.

Might try the Corvette phone and see if it still functions. Curious to know what the ringer sound is. A beeping horn I'm guessing. The seller at the stall was selling his own model car collection and he said he bought the Corvette phone in New York whilst on holiday. Be interesting to see if it does work on UK system. Plug connection looks the same. Might try it.

believe Highway 61 kinda sorta is a high-end spin off from American Muscle; the castings were by Ertl, and there were various levels of detail applied to them. The American Muscle 'Elite edition' range was a kind of earlier precursor to Highway 61. I think Auto World has taken over from the whole Ertl shooting match.

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome! 👍

I looked into Highway 61 online and it's apparently part of the Greenlight brand. Some mighty fine models they make too. I believe I recently bought a Greenlight caravan, or camper in 1/64 scale. I'll dig it out to check. Think I've got a couple of other 1/64 Greenlight models too.

The Challenger is 1/24 scale and incredibly detailed for that scale.

I've got various diecast bits and bobs on the way from ebay, will share them here when they turn up.

    The Challenger R/T looks a mega-bargain for £20 - 1/18 scale on that one?

Great detail, and they've done a good job with the eyepopping Panther Pink paint. Thanks for sharing!

It's actually 1/24 scale, which makes that level of detail even more incredible.

Never got that sort of detail on a 1980s Burago model when I was a kid!

  7. Saw this monstrosity at a car show this weekend. Never heard of this one before. It's a Lea Francis Lynx apparently and that is the original factory colours!  Apparently they only made a few. They showed it at the motor show and received no orders. No one was stupid enough to actually want one. The company went bust soon after. 1167652448_20220829_1300562.thumb.jpg.bfe86ad9f811269bcc8541fb5cdc6f4d.jpg5723670_20220829_1429062.thumb.jpg.988fe5a708b0f1813f43472c0b3607aa.jpgThis car must certainly qualify as shite!

  8. Hi all, I'm a newbie here, been following this thread for quite a while. Just thought I'd share what I picked up at a car show at the weekend. I found a nice black Corvette, that is also a phone! Couldn't resist it. Opening doors too. The other purchase was quite a find I reckon.  A Dodge Challenger the seller told me was made by Highway 61, no writing underneath the car. The Challenger is my favourite muscle car anyway, maybe because of the 'Vanishing Point' movie, but I really love this pink colour too, so 70s. The detail on this model is crazy. Separate parts for seat belts, window winders, real removable bonnet pins on the hood or bonnet. It has a headliner inside the roof and a jack in the boot, with the spare wheel. It's got to be worth way more than the £20 I paid for it. But it's a stunning model car and I'm not selling it!

  9. Been lurking on the forum for a while now, particularly enjoying the Shite in miniature thread as I am similarly afflicted with the desire to keep buying toy cars I really don't need, but still buying the ones I fancy, despite having no space to display them and the money would be better spent on essentials like petrol to get to work!

Anyway, my current car doesn't really fall into the autoshite category as it's only 6 years old. (It's a Suzuki Baleno and it's one on the best cars I've ever owned, if anyone's interested.) But I've owned plenty of chod over the years. Mark 2 Escort was my first car, others I've had since include Capris, Sierras, a Land Rover, a Citroen BX, Renault 11 and a couple of ex-London FX4 Fairway black taxis. I made a video for my YouTube channel a while back of all the cars I've owned since I passed my test back in 1988. I will post a link to it if anyone's interested and if posting YouTube links in this thread is allowed.

My last dodgy car I bought was an MG ZT-T 1.8 with the head gasket issue, hence I only had it a couple of months!

My user name is because as well as real cars, (and toy cars), I also have a strange interest and fascination with dodgem or bumper cars. I've always been interested in all things fairground, but dodgem cars in particular. I've got a few models of them but also I recently bought a dodgem car shell with the seat moulding off ebay to restore. It's from the late 60s, made by a company called Reverchon in France. It's been stored outside most of its life so the chrome trim is rusty and impossible to remove because the fixings are rusted solid. But it will get done eventually. It's currently in my bedroom, sitting on an old rubber bumper tyre I bought from the chap who runs Carter's Steam Fair!

Blimey, didn't mean this supposedly brief introduction to turn into an episode of Jackanory! Sorry about that. But that's me and my strange interests. My name's Robert by the way.
