Where are the new rubbish cars?

I think a lot of it is about EU safety laws. Theres plenty of shit cars being made in China and India but they're just not allowed to sell them here.

Yet.

Details on request, but many will dismiss them as conspiracy theories.

I would really be interested to read about your experiences. The more controversial the better, an insider's view of the german car industry in the 1980s has to be prime Autoshite material and spark an interesting discussion ! Just make sure you include candid references to mullets, krautrock and oversteering E21s !

Skoda didn't 'become good', they were just bought by VAG, and then all subsequent Skodas were VWs in disguise.

Renault.

I didn't buy a Renault because I knew it would be trouble, and I knew I'd get laughed at.

I nearly bought a Kia. Very nearly.

I know this goes against everything that's ever been written about them ,but when the missus needed a 'respectable' car for work we realised the budget we scraped together would by a brand spanking Dacia Duster.

Off to a dealer we toddled family in tow....

And what a pile of cheap nasty shit! The door handles felt as robust as those on a 15 year old Montego and anyone who's smacked themselves in the face with a lump of flame red monkey metal will attest, that's not good.

The seats and carpet seemed to be made from recycled kinder egg toys and the lack of any equipment(you can't get air con even as an option) was the cause of much hilarity from the junior members of my clan,as was the Radiomobile push button mw/lw radio. We didn't get as far as a test drive and throwing the budget at a 3 owner 6 year old example of Solihuls 5th finest seems almost sensible by comparison,at least she's got a bit of leather and wood to look at when she's waiting for the RAC.

It's nice to see someone's opinion of one - we all knew they're selling well, but nothing's actually been said about the quality. The fact it's big, cheap and new is enough for some people, after all.

People who make shite like this can't be evil.

Let's hope a UK importer will emerge soon. The stuff is already available in Switzerland.

Discuss.

Preston and Liverpool? Seems like they're aiming them at piss-poor Northeners then, inevitably with finance deals worse than a payday loan. This is how surprised I am: :-?

There's a dealer in Upton, on the Wirral (near Liverpool). They also were a Perodua dealer, but stopped that a few years ago.

That's actually part of the fun with a Dacia, as you progress with ownership, trying to spot all the areas where it has been costed to the bone to keep the price down. carpets are very thin, dash plastic is recycled tic tac boxes, on the sandero the solid rear axle does the handling no favours.

However...brand new it is many thousands cheaper than the nearest competitor. you pay for what you get.

This afternoon as I was wafting up the billiard table smooth M5, a Kia Venga bounced by at about 72 mph somewhere in Devon. It was so bad that I imagine the occupants had all suffered chronic seasickness before they reached Somerset :(

Normal fwd 405 there. Just make out the bottom shock mount on the n/s/r trailing arm. The pic of the undercarriage of the white one is utter shite! Live axle on leaf springs? Why?? The trouble they must have gone to, to create a poultice like that when the 405 was a great yoke.

Thanks for that. Never forget - I'm the one who asked about cambelt intervals on a Mercedes engine with a timing chain...

I thought 'dead' axles were back in? Didn't the 2006 Honda Civic move to a beam axle instead of costly IRS?

I got up close to a Great Wall Steed the other day. It's no FSO Polonez, that's for sure. Quite a few on the roads around here.

Don't get me wrong, its not bad handling like a marina it just understeers more than you expect

Shite in the making?

I give you the Suzuki Alto/Nissan Pixo.

*google image inserted here

Also the Toyota Aygo.

*google image here also

Neither car has a glove box or a place to put your left foot apart from the clutch pedal.

I've seriously considered buying both cars so shite for sure!

Not sure the Aygo has good shite credentials. It's pretty much the best of the three identical cars, as it doesn't wear a French badge (in the minds of the public here, not me - I'd have a C1 like a shot. Pantograph wiper, funky styling and a three-pot engine. WIN!).

In other news, I saw a Vauxhall Adam today. Annoyingly, I quite like it. I was all prepared to give it a slating for being 'OMG NU KRS IZ SHIT.'

2013 Kia cee'd 1.4 diesel.

A disaster as far as ability to drag itself along the road. Absolutely shocking turbo lag - not seen since the 80s.

no knowledge of such maladies.... however, I have read that the old Hyundai GETZ 1.5 CRDi 2008–2009  110 PS (81 kW; 108 hp) 235 N·m (173 lb·ft) >> (available only ever 2 door) with a 'chip' + larger I/Cooler.... could be a Centre Lane Cruise Missile   >> allegedly?

The C1 is a fantastic little motor, we've had one for four years now since it was new and has never given an ounce of trouble. It is a real riot to drive for such a small car and around these parts the 107/C1 (with a slight edge to the C1) seems far more common than the Aygo.
