Hmmm... (considers offer)... homegrown shite would include the likes of a 1986 Cutlass Cruiser station wagon, complete with peeling fake wood on the sides... tempting!

Yo Eddy -sorry to hear. My total lack of input is due to my own hospitalization. I've a knackered back -and when I started to lose control of my internals I was rushed back in for an unscheduled extra op. Just got home - yesterday. I'm fine now -till the next mid back sort out. Glad to hear your Missus is recovering -must have been a nasty scare.

Glad she's getting better- if you need anything 'dawn saarf' -just ask..

I was in your temperate clime a month back (Rhodes & Kos) very briefly. In't int expensive right now? Too dear for me. Roll on the return to drachma

I'd dropped off the A/S radar for the last few months, partly because of some beastly unpleasantness about Scooters and partly because work went a bit mental for a while. But today I dropped back in, saw this thread and was reminded what a sound bunch of blokes (+Louise) Autoshiters really are. So let me add my voice to those wishing you well Eddy, and Mrs R the speediest of recoveries. You too Nigel. It's not just your motoring that's our concern.

It's all gone a bit Pete Tong lately, hasn't it? Best of luck Nigel. And once again, thank you everyone.

She's out of ICU!

So when the cheering dies down... they moved her this morning to a Cardiology ward. I haven't been able to see a doctor yet so I don't know if that's a deliberate choice or just the first free bed. Visiting is a bit longer so we can see more of each other, at least. She's asking for certain food items, which can't be bad.

As for staying where we are/returning to GB: well we don't know yet. Need to get into details with the doctors. If she's going to need full-time care we just can't do it here, there isn't the support. Anyway, no point guessing at the moment. One thing I can say though: if we do return, the chance of us living in a terraced house in Barrow-in-Furness must be at least 99%.

Eek no! I remember what happened when the UK went decimal in 1971: we were promised prices wouldn't rise, but what were the 70s most famous for? Inflation! A handful of people got very rich on it, and the rest of us just had to pay up. This is exactly what's happened with conversion to the Euro, and you can bet your shiny thigh boots that if any country left the system, the same thing would happen all over again. Whose economy can stand that? Only the cartel heads.

Wildly o/t, I know, sorry. Actually it isn't really, because the cost of healthcare here is going to be a major factor in whether we stay or leave.

You think you're still going to be in the euro -this time next year?

From what I saw out there, pricing is ludicrous and totally out of kilter. Exactly what you'd expect when all confidence in the value of a currency is lost.

Time to stock up on tins, and buy a wheelbarrow!!

House prices are a bit more realistic in Wales, but only slightly...

Glad to hear she seems to be improving.

Glad to hear she's on the mend, it certainly seems like the road to recovery is on the way.

Like several people, I've missed most of this unfolding - owing to staying away from the grump thread. Just want to add my best wishes for speedy recoveries fella. You too Nigel. You'll get those hubcaps one day......

It really has been an utterly crap month or two all round eh...

In all honesty, no. I reckon we will be back on sterling, with the Lake District on the doorstep. Almost everything in Cyprus is way overpriced, with the exception of booze and fags (which don't affect me) and domestic rates (which does).

Have you sent me some???? No, none have arrived yet... :(

Reading this Mr RR it puts life into perspective

There are some whinging twonks out there who need some 'grief' like this in their sad selfish lives to re-calibrate their perspective of what is actually important/worthy of airtime.

All the best to you and yours mate.

Thank you kindly. :D

I saw the doctor yesterday, and he said she would be coming home, probably Friday. Today when I went in, she tells me she's coming home tomorrow! Great news, if it isn't one of her hallucinations, but I haven't been able to grab a doc to confirm it. Anyway I'll proceed on that assumption. Yesterday he said she would need a wheelchair and zimmer, so this morning I went out looking for used examples. Got some to see tomorrow, but meanwhile I dropped into my new employer where I was able to borrow both items. Well done Houston Medical! Considering I may not be able to even start, I think that's pretty damn good service. I'm learning here: chairs and zimmers are a heck of a price new!

Just wheel her out of the hospital in one of theirs (make sure your wearing running shoes). Great news that she is on the mend. Best wishes from an Autoshite newby.

SHE'S HOME!

Hung around the hospital for ages today waiting for a doctor to discharge her... so long, in fact, that they served her lunch! Didn't serve me any, I noticed. I'd bought the wheelchair and zimmer I went to see, but took the borrowed one into the ward. Finally wheeled her out and discovered that the seat of the pickup is somewhat higher than the seat of the chair. Was a bit of fun trying to get her in, but we made it. Maybe next time we go anywhere we'll use the Granada, which is a fair bit lower.

Arrived home and promptly spent about 90 minutes building a wheelchair ramp for the steps to the back porch. The house itself is all on one level, but to get to that level you need to negotiate four steps... or now, an old pallet and some assorted other scrap timber. :D

She's still very weak but her brain faculties seem to be returning ok, and she seems keen to recover. Until then I have to do everything for her, and I do mean everything... Still, at least she's home now.

That's great news Eddy, and puts all the petty whining into perspective. Will she eventually make a complete recovery? Whatever, I wish you both all the very best, she couldn't be in better hands :)

Posted

Thank you. :D

I think "complete" is unlikely, but we can aim and hope for a pretty good recovery; one that at least will allow her to ditch the chair and zimmer. I'd take that. Good enough. Progress in the last week or so has been amazing, so it wouldn't be reasonable to expect that to continue. Sure enough, there are some backward steps in the mix now. Hopefully there will be less of those as time goes on.

Does she like political discussions, Eddy?

:mrgreen::mrgreen::mrgreen::mrgreen:

You seriously imagine I'd marry someone like that, Norm? In your head, can the words Likely, Fucking and Not be rearranged into any well-known saying?

Brilliant news Eddy. I bet its nice to know that she is home with you safe and on the mend. All the best to you and Mrs Ramrod. I really hope things get better. Sometimes you've got to hit rock bottom before things get better and better.

That's great news. I haven't posted in this thread but did follow it, I hope Mrs Ramrod's recovery goes as smoothly as possible for you both 8)

Fantastic news Eddy. This is the sort of update one likes to see. :D

Thats is great news Eddy, glad to be reading of Mrs R's slow but sure recovery and being home will be a big boost (speaking from experience).

Mentally, being in your own surroundings really helps so everything crossed for swift improvements.
