nigel bickle Posted September 9, 2008 Posted September 9, 2008 I just want to a friend who lives there, with space to store/restore in preparation for an occasional visit -and drive home....Scrummy motors- esp the Rekord.
Split_Pin Posted September 9, 2008 Posted September 9, 2008 1st class spots as always - even in the background theres always something R12-shaped!
nigel bickle Posted September 10, 2008 Posted September 10, 2008 I had a 408-same colour too.Lovable rough old mutt it was -burnt in the barn fire unfortunatley.Crude as hell -but I'd have another. Spades of 'character'....
Adrian_pt Posted September 11, 2008 Author Posted September 11, 2008 Always had a soft spot for Moskys, the early ones with tail fins look utterly cool. Bit more: Dacia 1100 Mouldy Lada... and behind it... Very well-kept 1100 I liked this tatty Audi, pretty rare too I imagine Crumbling Dacia 1300 Wartburg Splendid Rekord, Romania used to be full of these a while back but most have been crushed as being just too shite Dacia 1307 Double Cabine (that's what they called it - why? make it sound classier and more french?) Weird Pug 205 thing Beetle and dacia (and cat) Lovely Fiat in oh-so-fashionable white This early 1300 was a real honey down to the period rear screen demist Finally, photo of the day: Insanely crumbly Fiat 850. I've clocked this a fair bit and have older photos too.... how much longer will it cling on to life?
pompei Posted September 11, 2008 Posted September 11, 2008 What are the rear rims on that 850?Black cat for me please
Milford Cubicle Posted September 11, 2008 Posted September 11, 2008 Regatta! Amazing the stuff out there that is completely extinct here. Must go east at some point.
mk2_craig Posted September 11, 2008 Posted September 11, 2008 Some remarkable survivors and it must be freaky seeing R12 clones practically everywhere you turn. What's the white (saloon? hatch? Can't tell) car parked in the row behind the mustard Wartburg?
Adrian_pt Posted January 16, 2009 Author Posted January 16, 2009 A bit more from the summer: Rekord R18, gloriously shitty Pug been in the same place for a while This is splendid and obscure Bit of scene? Authentic ratlook This is being restored This was an absolute stunner Used daily So I went to a lcassic car show and it was great fun! Lots of obscure stuff and I got to drive a Fiat 1500 (the burgundy one)... ARO m461 Dacia, dacia Absolutely stunning Opel -= love the styling on these Group shotshttp://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm221/Adrian_pt/DSCF4310.jpg Had great fun in this Fiathttp://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm221/Adrian_pt/DSCF4307.jpg 1100 in actionhttp://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm221/Adrian_pt/DSCF4315.jpg My fave was this Merchttp://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm221/Adrian_pt/DSCF4297.jpg Fiat, Warsawahttp://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm221/Adrian_pt/DSCF4293.jpghttp://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm221/Adrian_pt/DSCF4291.jpghttp://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm221/Adrian_pt/DSCF4290.jpg The Fiat 1100 Coloniale was owned by a charming couple; the wife, having found out that her husband had had it professionally restored, then bought another 1100 of her own and retored it herself to prove a point! Top people!http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm221/Adrian_pt/DSCF4284.jpg Shite was never very far awayhttp://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm221/Adrian_pt/DSCF4280.jpghttp://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm221/Adrian_pt/DSCF4279.jpg One owner from 1973... loving the factory air conhttp://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm221/Adrian_pt/DSCF4275.jpg Stunning Jaghttp://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm221/Adrian_pt/DSCF4276.jpg Great to imagine this being driven around in Communist Romania. There were of course some great Western cars around as well as dacias, Aros, Skodas, and Trabants... Ceausescu's son had a Fird Sierra. http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm221/Adrian_pt/DSCF4274.jpg
VWPowered Posted January 16, 2009 Posted January 16, 2009 wow thinking of leaving france this year maybe we should head your way..great spots as always
michiel Posted January 16, 2009 Posted January 16, 2009 That Toyopet's a bit special! Love those Fiat 1500s too, and the Flavia...
Adrian_pt Posted April 16, 2009 Author Posted April 16, 2009 So I went to a wedding in February and in between taking part in the traditional festivities and drinking lots of home-made brandy and wine, I found some cars... Nice CX Really clean Dacia, 1984 ish Fiat 850 still going strong General shite buildings What is it? Logan and sunset 1979 Dacia Rank Merc Opel in a bad way Derelict Trabi Audi 100, getting rare Street scene Dacia 1320 (1988-1991) - the shitest production Dacia of them all? My Volga still going strong... Volga, this time of an older generation.
trigger Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 Think it might be a Mk1 Vauxhall Astra / Opel Kadett at a guess. Some great spots here though!
AXrescuer Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 Some nice captures there but blimey that place is a bit grim. Kind of reminds me of Hatfield.
Adrian_pt Posted April 17, 2009 Author Posted April 17, 2009 Very grim indeed - although the town where they're caught is one of the smoarter addresses in Romania! A bit more, including some pretty amazing pre-war stuff... Capri 2300. This was someone's car under Communism - not too bad for a dictatorship! Petrol queue in 1990. This was almost exclusively dacia, although you can see a Beemer and a Volvo - either belinging to a local bigwig or immediately brought over after the fall of Ceausescu Skoda I have no idea - Adler perhaps? Or something american? Chevrolet I think but again not sure Merc 170V Crumbling Barkas Trio of turd: Opel Olympia, Mercedes with home-made doors and a buggered roof, and a never Merc Ponton with a termina rust issue... Even in Romania things very rarely quite come as bad as this! Junkman 1
VWPowered Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 great spots as always, must of been a real rust issue on pontoon's as this ones near me
nigel bickle Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 I well remember those Romanian fuel queues, pre-the 'revolution'.As a Westerner- I had to prepay (western currency -ridiculous exchange rate) for fuel coupons -min 20litres. Fine-except that the BMW m/cycle I was touring on (K100rs-still got it!) tank is 20 litres. So each fuel stop meant an overflowing tank all over a hot engine-extinquisher to hand. Not allowed to stop till they had dispensed 20 litres-whatever. Madness. Only 2 minor fires...still bears the scars!..Never had to join those queues though-always got waved straight to the front-cos the bike itself caused a crowd! Strange times.
Adrian_pt Posted May 28, 2013 Author Posted May 28, 2013 Blast from the past! A short trip in March revealed that most of the truly heinous tat has gone in various scrappage waves. Even old Dacias have become unusual - and the ARo, TV and Oltcit models are now rare. Nevertheless, a few highlights: Volvo Judging by the plate, an 85 Kadett Dacia with identity crisis Honey of an 18 Jacked up Golf Very battered Dacia, 1981 vintage Seventies Dacias Megarare Oltcit pickup Early Dacia in very good condition This is special - Dacia made in the late 80s for the Party elite. Note the Oltcit headlights. Warszawa Visa Two Dacias and a hot Escort Dacia prototype Yank stuff Orange! Step back to 2011 and a quiet fishing town apart from the mainland has about 25 cars. The only way of getting there is by boat (except for a practically inaccessible dirt track) so cars tend to be pretty battered - and when they do break down, abandoned. Carts are often the best way of getting around Old Audi Baby transport! Abandoned 1100 If you were choosing a car for inhospitable terrain, would it be a CX? Or simply a very buggered Dacia? Junkman and Alexg 2
Skizzer Posted May 28, 2013 Posted May 28, 2013 That orange Dacia coupe is the canine's cojones. Want.
Guest Posted May 28, 2013 Posted May 28, 2013 I'd quite like a tv 12 (tudor) van, I guess the chances of finding one in rhd form are prettly slim now.
Conrad D. Conelrad Posted May 28, 2013 Posted May 28, 2013 Great pics! Although they do nothing for the country's tourism! Warszawa Is that a British reg plate? It matches a (unlicensed since 2012) Merc A Class.
Rod/b Posted May 29, 2013 Posted May 29, 2013 Could well be Peter, when I was in Romania a couple of years ago there were shedloads of UKplated cars about, and a significant number of fairly new, UK registered RHD Transit tippers for sale. I won't speculate as to their histories. The driving standards i witnessed are probably best described as "suicidal".
Adrian_pt Posted December 26, 2013 Author Posted December 26, 2013 A more recent trip to Bucharest yielded little of interest. Most interesting older stuff has now gone from the capital - still plenty about in the provinces and the poorer suburbs, though. The older Dacias (of which the white one is a very clean and early example) have now become rare, TVs practically extinct and I barely saw an ARO. The Seventies and Eighties Eurocrud has also by and large been scrapped. What's the grey 70s car? Couldn't get a proper photo owing to the "neighbours"... Alexg and RedSparrow 2
Steviemillar Posted December 26, 2013 Posted December 26, 2013 The grey car behind the gates looks like an early Colt Lancer?
Mr_Bo11ox Posted December 26, 2013 Posted December 26, 2013 Argh!!!! I love Romania. Hey I heard a thing on the radio a few weeks back about some bloke who has a cafe in Bucharest, he was a sports journalist (i think) during the Ceaucescu days and he used his press pass to 'allow' him to take loads of photos around Bucharest while they were tearing the place down to build the massive palace and other shiz. Seemingly such photos are super rare as it was generally NOT ALLOWED to take photos of folk being made homeless and their homes & other nice old buildings being demolished while they watched, etc. But now he's got all his photos up round the cafe and you can go and check them out and see how it was back in the day. Do you know this place?
Squire_Dawson Posted December 26, 2013 Posted December 26, 2013 Do most city-dwellers live in flats? How common are individual houses over there? It's one of the differences that strikes me between England and Europe; flat-dwelling is much more common there.
vulgalour Posted December 26, 2013 Posted December 26, 2013 This is not just a jacked up Golf. Just about the rarest Mk2 Golf there is it's a Syncro, not produced in that high a volume and designed to be an all-road vehicle. Probably very well suited to Romania's landscape but it is surprising to see one out in the wild. The few that do exist now aren't so well known even within the VW scene. If you were going to buy a premium shite Mk2 Golf, this is the one to buy, because hardly anyone will have a clue what it is, or that it came from the factory like that.
Mr_Bo11ox Posted December 26, 2013 Posted December 26, 2013 I think its a golf country, the Syncro is 4WD as well but not jacked up and sat on an additional chassis like those things (which I love due to them being mental)
