MrDuke Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 The Clouseau 'tache added to the first Megane when it was facelifted always seemed too high up to me. An inch or two lower would probably have lined it up nicely with the top of the headlights. I hated 'that' grille when they rolled it out, mainly because the older shape that it replaced looked so much nicer and more thoughtfully designed. Personally, the rear light blanking plates on Daihatsu 4x4s always bugs the hell out of me. WHY the F**K did they not just use the vertical cutouts, instead of just boshing some hideous units into the bumper, where they're more likely to get broken, as well as looking fuggin ugly?!
chaseracer Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 On a similar note, 'facelift' mk1 Discos had brake & indicator lights on the rear bumper AND in the main (Maestro van knockoff) cluster. Interesting take on 'cost control'... EDIT: Beaten by Tayne!!
Guest Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 Loads of 4x4s have non-functioning rear light clusters with "working" ones chucked into the bumper. It always looks toss. Cheers EU.
Negative Creep Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 Just how much of an afterthought is that badge?
chaseracer Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 Just how much of an afterthought is that entire car? EFA...
boobydoo Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 Cars with no 'proper' rear door handles look wrong. I don't know who did it first , but everyone seems to be jumping on the bandwagon now. CULPRIT 1: CULPRIT 2: P.S.I actually liked that rear chrome effect strip on the later Hunters. Livened up a somewhat drab car!
Wilko220 Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 Cars with no 'proper' rear door handles look wrong. I don't know who did it first , but everyone seems to be jumping on the bandwagon now. CULPRIT 1: I also thought that offset number plate on the Alfa looked a bit crap - as if they designed the car forgetting that it would have to have a plate stuck on it somewhere
boobydoo Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 Also, while I'm at it....... Chrysler Sunbeams with the early 'indented' headlights. They used Avenger ones to keep costs down so couldn't get them flush. They later got it right....but only for the last few months.
Wilko220 Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 When the Hillman Avenger became the Chrysler Avenger and the ditched the 'hockey stick' rear lights in favour of boring, straight ones, they just shoved a bit of plastic in to fill the gap...
dollywobbler Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 Mr Chase Racer - I believe public response to the Disco facelift lights (which I mentioned some pages ago!) was so poor that Land Rover offered to fit the old-style lights in addition to the new ones if you took your vehicle back.
dollywobbler Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 Honest, I'm not fixated on early C21 vans - but JEEEZUSS!! someone was at the absinthe hard when they "designed" this: What the hell is that lump in the roof over the seats? Does the average French workman wear a top hat these days? They didn't use the hump on their first attempt (I believe Ogle had a hand in both of these!) I quite like it though. They're fine looking vans, nicely different. I mean, it must be difficult to make any box look different to another, but they managed it.
Futuramic Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 I hate this. I really do. It's wankier than the Strong Wrist Club of Great Britain's annual trip to the porn convention. It says more about the state of the nation than the entire output of Heat magazine and Jeremy Kyle combined. It deserves to die. I am talking about the silver holes in the back. They look like exhaust pipes. In days of yore they would have been connected to some kind of ridiculous pipework spaghetti in order to make one steam more than the other. Now, in a grand display of apathy worthy of the laziest, Lambert and Butler smoking, pitbull owning, obese, pregnant and unwashed member of the Giro queue, THEY DON'T EVEN WORK!!!!!!!! They look like exhaust pipes; and give the rear end a sporty appearance. In reality they do nothing. There is a downswept pea-shooter behind the bumper. Worryingly this is an emerging trend. Other cars are like this now.
Skizzer Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 The way the front and rear bumpers on last-gen Escort vans came from different decades: And on the subject of bumpers, what was going on with all that mess below the back bumper on Mk2 Golfs? (I like this thread )
Split_Pin Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 Can't believe I forgot about this one. The alignment of the front and rear door handles on the 5-door Corsa B - the back door handle is about an inch lower. If you haven't noticed it before, you will now. I had one of these for 4 years and didn't notice that!
Conrad D. Conelrad Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 I'd never noticed it either, and I think it's because every time I see an old Corsa I look at the wheelarch to see how faded the plastic trim is.
Timewaster Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 Just how much of an afterthought is that badge? I see your Chev roo let and raise you:"Vauxhall " Arena aka Renault Traffic
stuboy Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 Urrgh. Just look at it. They got everything wrong. had many cavaliers...... hated the vectra
Guest Leonard Hatred Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 Vectras are quite good looking cars, they are just a visual update of the handsome Mk3 Cavalier
seth Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 Once upon a time side repeaters were small neat little things let into the front wings. Car designers could even have fun with them by making them round. Or triangular. Or perhaps a rectangle with rounded corners. Now, I think thanks to Mercedes, more and more of them are migrating to the door mirrors. The mirrors are more often than not already over-sized ungainly zits on the flanks of a car and so in order to attract as much attention to them as possible manufactures are making sure you all know the car has side repeaters there by making them massive too. Really, a small flush mounted rectangular or round lens on the end of the mirror would suffice.
Guest Leonard Hatred Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 wanky Twingo image I hate this. I really do. It's wankier than the Strong Wrist Club of Great Britain's annual trip to the porn convention. It says more about the state of the nation than the entire output of Heat magazine and Jeremy Kyle combined. It deserves to die. Does France have Heat magazine and the Jeremy Kyle show?
dollywobbler Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 Seth - you forgot to mention that replacing a mirror on a modern will cost the earth, because now they're all full of electronics! At least the side indicators are visible there. One thing I HATE is indicators inside the headlamps. Mk3 Golf, easy to see indicators. Mk4 with the headlights on? Not a chance. BMW MINI Mk1, completely seperate - like the original Mini and easy to spot. Facelift? Shove 'em in the lamps! It's like backwards evolution. How long before a manufacture launches indicators that announce their presence by flicking outwards from the body?
kinkersaab Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 its not really gonna be relevant to any but a few on here, but, i hate the way that any volvo 440 460 or 480 i have owned of driven has suffered from dashboard creak and shudder when the engine fires, they all did it, it completely spoiled the car for me. some were worse than others.
barefoot Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 Now, I think thanks to Mercedes, more and more of them are migrating to the door mirrors. It's not just indicators in mirrors.Everything Mercedes does first, the others follow. I give you self cleaning tail lights - Merc 123 & then Caprithen there's a Merc of a couple of years ago that stood out for looking like a banana with skinny windowsOh, new Avensis.
retro80sboy Posted February 3, 2011 Posted February 3, 2011 The back doors on the Mazda RX8. Looks awful, and doesnt need them.

Lord Sterling Posted February 3, 2011 Posted February 3, 2011 Mk2 Cavalier estate - rear lights They have always looked like an afterthought to me. Rover 800 stick-on grilles I absolutely destest those stick-on Rover 200 grilles everyone seem to be sticking on to make thier car look unconvincingly newer. Mk4 Astra/Zafira - velour seats These just look very cheap and uninviting for a reasonable looking car. E46 3-Series - Everything, the whole car I just dont like them at all personally, I dont like the way they look or drive. And yes, I have driven a fair few
