I don't know all the history but its a left hooker and has been hit once and almost stolen twice. I'm sure there's a photo of me recovering it with a Range Rover somewhere.

^Given that the account belongs to 'American Dan', is it possible the car's a US import? Maybe from the USAF guys at Edzell; they left lots of odd motors, which could be seen right thro' Angus and up to Aberdeen. I'd always thought of it as being American cars, but an odd spec Euro box would fit.

No American Dan has always been in civvy street, he's originally from Arizona but bought the car in Banchory.

Thinking about it, most of the ex-USAF cars I've seen had Dundee plates on; the odd one got an Aberdeen or Fife plate. But 'ASJ' would be around the Kilmarnock area. I think.

Been after this one for a while - actually I thought it had gone - until it turned up right next to me in Asda's car park. So shocked was I, that I nearly got run over by the muppet in the blue Tranny. The things I do for the love of shite cars...I dunno

E-plate round nose Passat; must be an early one, sure.

 

Left with little option but to pull into Stirling services, I braced myself for the inevitable. £4.06 for ten Lamberts was somewhat tempered by a gaggle of Trevors - including this lovely 400SE wedge.

 

Slightly bizarrely, there was a guy sitting in the back of this Bambi, having a nice cuppa. Still, a nice find during a photography mission up the Campsies.

 

Have a bonus Bluebird on me. Jus 'cuz. I know it's a '90 reg, but it is very 80's!

The fact that its moved is a good sign.

There's a Bedford CA camper and a mk1 Transit camper round the back, neither of which have moved in a very long time.

You may also have seen the Marina out front.

'Tis indeed an M100 under the sheets. I should really get to know the owner, he's near me, and seems a bit of a shiteist! (There was an unbelievably crusty V6 Probe, Hiab'd away to make space for the Elan...)

I did spot the other stuff (except the Marina) near the Dodge; there's a couple of ageing caravans and the CI Tranny...but only as I was driving away. By then I was too taken with the idea of getting a pie and some Bru, and sneaking a peek into Brian Patterson's truckshite yard, at the other end of the village. Which turned up not much.

Don't know Brian Patterson but there's a few places that could be.

 

At the other end , on the north side of the road, there's a shabby house with an overgrown garden that's had a few motors parked up next to it over the years.

On the south side of the road but west of the burn there's a house where a Series 1 LR was parked up for years. The owner then got a coach which didn't move whilst he converted it into... something.

East of the burn there's a farm with Nissen huts which might have had a few old motors...

 

I grew up a few miles down the road.

You may have bought that pie from the bakery I used to work in.

Yep, the campers and caravans are on the north side of the road, at the eastern end of Aberargie: the truck yard's pretty much at the other end of the village, on the southern side. I was looking for his legendary old double-drive Foden logging motors, but either they were out'n'about, or they've been pensioned off.

I actually nipped into Abernethy, and got the village store for pie'n'Bru. We were on another photography mission, so plenty of excuse to go autoshite hunting too!

The shop in Abernethy, just across the road from my dad's house, is owned by a chap called Alec who had a Hyundai Stellar back when it was a new car. His brother owns the cheapo car sales places next to the Rolls Royce specialist.

Did you know Tower Garage used to be an FSO franchise?

Tower garage rings a bell. But I can't think of it associated with FSO; possibly before I knew the area. Tower Bakery, on the other hand... ...one of the better things about Perth. That and Inveralmond Brewery.

So where's the Rolls specialist then? Pretty sure I didn't spot that! To be fair, I only got as far as the primary school, when I remembered how to get up to the High St, so I missed out the east end of Abernethy. And it's been a good while since I drove right thro'. Not since I got laughed at by some kids in the primary school...the flashbacks...can't go back...too traumatic

Might have to have a look at the bargain cars place tho'.

Tower Garage is in the middle of the village on the main road, I don't think it has dealt in FSOs for over twenty years.

Although my mother's Polski Fiat was supplied by them.

 

The cheap car sales place and the RR/Bentley specialist are at the front of the potato merchant, also near the school.

Further back in time (but unused since the 80's maybe, just to keep a tenuous link?), is this. I haven't a clue what it is. There don't appear to be any badges on it. There's also no 350 Chev or slot mags on it. Yet.

Forgive my thrashing about for an answer; it's been over a decade since I worked at Laidlaws. I knew a few folk had some very interesting projects 'round the back', which were talked up. The rest of it was bollocks, like the fleet of fake Escort RST's and the orange Cossie Sapphire, which had a low-compression Transit Pinto up front...

Still miss the oddity of Cupar tho'. This end of Fife's far too sensible!

If you go over the wee bridge and on to the Pitscottie road, there is a farm a few hundred yards on the left- his garage is in there. Another good mate runs a garage in the trading estate- Saab specialist, lots of old 96's 99's and classic 900's in there and usually other solid gold shite lying around. Next to him is a small boy- well he looks about 12 with no teeth due to taking vast amounts of Coke.. the legal kind.. who shoehorns 3.2 V6's into frightened Nova's and Corsa's He used to bring them for MOT's and we just shook our heads and handed him a 5 page VT30. a couple of days later he'd come back and we couldn't get him on anything, even tough a V6 Corsa in a 1l shell with standard brakes was an accident waiting to happen. He gradually got better and better and now turns out some Kwality stuff- if thats your bag.

Here we are again, then. Time to gracefully depart the 80's with one last lovely classic -

I spent a good 5 minutes staring at this, unable to decide if it actually is an Injection Special. There's something doesn't quite ring true about it.

Anyhoo, let's lurch forward into the 90's, with this lovely Corolla (complete with '16 valve efi' sticker)-

Mismatched wheels FTW! The front one looks suspiciously Vauxhall-y to me. Still, ain't seen many 4-dr ones lately, so it was nice that this one posed at the lights for me. Maybe it felt a kinship with the million K's truckshite I was in?

From the lofty higher branches of the Toyota tree, this verrr clean Lexus -

I noticed it had gold badges on it - every single one. Is there some significance to this? I feel it's the kind of thing I ought to know. Sad, eh? At the time I was much too distracted by finding this Lexus, a Robin, and a VelSatis in close proximity to think about it.

You get the mere suggestion of a sunny weekend, and all the campershite comes out to play. Missed an E-reg Nissan Urvan camper (twice that day), but bagged this beauty -
