Chrysler PT cruisers?

I do know they're pretty fugly, I do know they're usually covered in stick on plastic chrome 'flames' and other such shit and I do know other Chryslers (Voyager/Neon) are hopelessly fucking awful, but anything to look out for on the Cruiser?

Posted

PT cruiser is (I'm told) just a neon with a wanky body on top. I wouldn't touch one with yours!

Posted

I've heard theyre not too bad at all, although bushes and stuff can wear as its Neon running gear with a heavier body plonked on.

They don't like thumping great V8's driving past them very much!, There was a fleet of them yesterday at the show i was at with the wanky flames, chrome bits and Texas style flags and crap all over them, each one with there alarms going off.

Total load of crap. Horrible to drive. Purported to be desperately unreliable.

Then again you think Astra 4's are good, while everyone else thinks otherwise. So you will probably love it.

The few owners that I've spoken to seem to like them. That said I think they are shit, not shite, shit.

Posted

Based on Pog's theory I should be razzing round in one now.

I take it they're hard to shift then?

Posted

Billy, when did you become a hermer? These things are shit. Avoid. A local dealer here had one for 3 years, and he wasn't asking the earth for it.

If they're getting this much of a slagging on a website dedicated to shite cars, they must be pretty awful (can't say I've heard a good word said about them from anyone who's driven one!).

I s'pose the only good thing about the estate is that it doesn't look as shit as the convertible...

Jim Davidson is an enthusiastic owner. Do you really want to have something in common with him?

You know I think despite all the other suggestions of running in the opposite direction, your's has absolutely convinced me not to get one.

I don't like sharing the same planet as that desperately unfunny racist twat, having the same car as him would be almost as bad.

Thanks all, I'll give it a swerve.

Not a lot love for these. Almost the perfect candidate for Autoshite 2025. You seem to get a lot for your money, and its certainly different but I can't help think that it looks like a car that was designed exclusively for dogging or fans of Billy Ray Cyrus.

If I was to get a current American car that is widely available, I'd look into a Chrysler 300C personally - quite imposing looking machines.

I think they look OK, but when I typed in 'PT Cruiser' in google, the first suggestion was 'PT Cruiser Problems'. I'd love it if they were good, but I've not heard much about them, they're from the crazy era of bad American cars (ie the last thirty or so years).

The impression I get is some Detroit executive board briefing a design spec and planning on setting the world alight by introducing a unique looking 'MPV' with superb inspired handling characteristics and economy, with styling that harks back to coke bottle styling, and eventually upturning the import market from Europe and Asia, and then getting it horrible wrong, again.

You just knew I was going to post this, didn't you?

My only complaints are the drab-looking rear view, and the fact that it's FWD, which means a turning circle of about nine miles and bushes that wear for fun. Mrs Ramrod, being more or less the opposite shape to Jodie Kidd, complained she couldn't see the extremities when parking, which is a shame as it was nominally her car. But we still liked it overall.

me Mum pointed one out the other day..belongs to her friends thinking id be impressed..i kinda dry wretched and said nooooooooo........

I lied, I do have another complaint: who the hell approved painting them silver??? It's the least suitable colour possible!

This is your typical PT cruiser in this country.

Though this is all they are good for.

There's one just over the road from here that has been laid up for about 6 months now, it actually looks quite nice, just curious why it's off the road, it turned up one day outside a house and then when work was being carried out it was stuck up the drive and hasn't moved since.

Assuming they bought those badges from 'frauds, there is £70 worth of chrome letters on the back of that (just the "new FOCUS" script ones)

On top of that are the tasteful "horse" and "woman" decals, and the "chrysler" and "classic cad" detailing.

I despair.

the "chrysler" and "classic cad" detailing.

That's CRD which is the model designation, and points to this one having the compression-ignition lump. The blingy lettering is standard for the badging, but someone has rather gone to town on the back of that one, I agree. We were going to bling ours up a bit, but Mrs Ramrod decided she wanted something smaller and brand new instead. Now she drives an 8-year-old diesel pickup...

One of my supervisors at work was thinking of trading in her X-plate Scrote and asked me what I thought, New Beetle or New Mini? I told her, PT, and she took my advice. She bought a convertible with the auto box. So far she seems very pleased with it (but note I skipped the country 18 months ago so my information may be slightly out of date... )
