When we had Bob we managed to acquire a good second-hand  chrome rear bumper which went with the car to @djoptix. If you didn't get it with Bob maybe it would be worth asking him if he still has it.

I'd promised that to @wuvvum for his 6, but I'm happy for it to go wherever it's most needed...

Everything looks better lowered,

Excellent work on this by the way.

Can't help but think this would look smashing painted all in that yellow that's on the tailgate!

I don't think I could get it off without taking off what's underneath, I also believe it hiding/covering a multitude of sins. The drivers door defo has some sort of brush painted on primer on it and the rear pass door is showing red primer too. Maybe in the future ill give it a go. Current target is still get it usable and working and the welding completed, then ill enjoy it a little.

I doubt you'd get that paint off. It's probably 1960s British Rail coach enamel that's full of lead and other nasties and was brushed on really thickly 40-odd years ago.

might have to try a patch, its quoted as being able to remove painted on enamels 🤷‍♂️

plenty to do before we consider the bodywork tbh

Funnily enough, I encountered a very yellow R6 over the weekend.

Think that's the first one I've seen locally since about 1992.

oh wow, what a stunner! Brian Whiteside (dealer sticker) is pretty big in the old Renault world still now, had a replacement engine for the R8 from him before going bigger

We have had a delivery of some more parts, mainly from autodoc. New thermostat, top and bottom rad hoses and more importantly a radiator. So with that in place I've been working on getting the carb and timing setup. I've hit a bit of a wall though, I think the exhaust has collapsed internally. I can get the car to fast idle but it hates running at lower speeds. It wont idle at all unless the choke is on or the throttle is opened, and then it sounds laboured, there is a huge hissing sound from under the car that increases as the car runs and even continues briefly after shutoff, so I think I need to whip it off or disconnect it. This is also accompanied by a large pile of rust at the tail pipe lol.

slowly slowly, but we will get there

I agree, but that's (IMHO) too much for a R6. I think the whole point of the motorcar is its rolypoly handling.

Plenty of little bits going on in the background, waiting on a carb rebuild kit for the new carb I've got, then hopefully I can get it setup and running properly. Will update a bit more in the next video but..... check these out

on a side note, i have raised the suspension a touch too, extra wallow reinstated

I like this latest development very much. Class choice of wheels.

I had a set on my old B plate Renault 5 Le Car back in the mid 90s.

I've been keeping an eye out for a set for a while, then found a company called Iconic Alloys that supply them new/reproduction from Germany

In other news, insurance sorted. Through Lancaster as usual with it lowered and alloys fitted 150ish for the year SDPC with 0 NCB as they are attached to the R8 and the Clio RS

Little update, getting ever closer to being usable. Managed to set the ride height, have raised the rear a touch, roof line now sitting pretty level. Not going to lie another inch off all round would look great in my eyes but its got plenty of travel now so should be pretty comfy. Struggling to get it to run sweet off choke, with a slight bit of choke it runs very well, without it tries to fall flat on its face. Will give everything a blow out but as the carb is off a 950cc engine it could be jetted wrong 🤷‍♂️we keep on plugging

I wouldn't have ever thought of putting those wheels on that car, but hot dog it looks great!

Wow, first proper drive already! That's a fair old slumber after being tucked away since 1994.

I never knew the 6 had the same gear setup as the 4. I wonder if the early 5s were the same? My first mk1 5 was an 81 model, which was floor change.

Massive congratulations, fella. Is your wife steadily coming around to the idea? At least she went out for the drive and risked it for a biscuit 😂.

Lol shes had 17 years of me tinkering on old chod, mainly Renaults, shes ok with it. Its good to get it going, needs some finesse, and god it rolls around all over the place!

Will be good to finish off getting it running sweet and get some miles under its belt.

Ive only had 2 mk1 5s, both turbos so both had 5 speed floor mounted shifters

Does it have an anti-roll bar?  Mine does but not sure if the 850s did.  It's not particularly effective mind...

Renault roll seems to enhance grip. Michelin magic!
