To be fair it was called Bob before my ownership, I've just continued with it. Not sure what I would call it though... My kids call them by names, I generally just go with what it is, "the 8" or "the 6" that said, as its triggers, I will endeavour to always use human names going forward 🤣

I am the guilty party for naming it "Bob". I have never named any of my cars before and generally think that it is a silly idea, but this was named for a good reason. The guy who owned this (called Bob obviously) was a friend of myself and even more so of @quicksilver. He was into buses but mainly trains, hence the repaint in BR livery. He sadly died and we discovered the car in his garage when another friend of ours who was his executor was clearing out his house. I therefore decided to name it after him to remember him by and as a (hopefully) lasting memorial. I was the one who put the "808" numbers on the front wings after realising that it almost spelt Bob and would be in keeping with the train theme. Try not to judge me too harshly now you know the reasoning behind it.

I'm not one for naming cars either, but I think given that reason it can be excused, this time. Thanks for sharing, and I hope Bob's progress will help keep the memories of the real Bob alive for you.

@barefoot I've got a Volvo 240 called Christine.

It's red and has claimed three lives so I'm fucking terrified that I become number 4 😂

OK, but there was need to suggest to anyone that they should carry it on. My T2 came with the epithet 'Bertha' which I soon fucked off.

I judge everyone who names vehicles with the same contempt as I judge that twat Walt Disney for naming a fucking deer 'Bambi' and starting the whole anthropomorphism bollocks rolling.

My mother in laws Yaris is called Josephine. The one before that was called Josephine. And the Fiat motor home she owned concurrently with Yaris no.1 was also called Josephine.

The morons that bought the motor home have called it Josephine and paid actual money to have a decal applied above the cab, which reads Josephine.

Well done on picking up the Renner 6 by the way @adey - will be great to see it back on the road again, any plans for the bodywork?

Henceforth I shall call my van Barefoot.

Yes I think so but in no rush on that front

First off the plan is up and running after that I will start to think on it. Hopefully if I change things it wont offend those who have come before me or the memory of the original owner...?

equally it will probably loose a few inches in ride height and maybe some fresh shoes, this would be easy to change back in the future though.

On the engine front though we are staring to make some progress.

checking things over I found that the crank from the r6 engine has been reground to .5mm oversize, I'm not overly keen on these so have cleaned up the r4 crank using 3000grit and a shoelace. The block liners and pistons are all from that engine also.  Only thing I will check is if the cams are different, the r6 had a touch more power I believe with a whopping 38bhp or similar vs the r4s 30bhp. I have a spare oil scraper ring winging its way to me in the post to replace the damaged one and am now at the point of deciding if I should order up a full set of shells or just to clean them up and send it (super cheap I know but it wouldn't be the first time I've sent an old Renault engine on second hand shells)

excuse the mess, very small garage with lots of parts now in it

Excellent 🙂

For what it's worth, if by shells you mean big end bearings? - that engine had suffered from water ingress at the top end but I don't think it had made it past the pistons at all - and I'm pretty sure the big end bearings all looked in good nick when I took them out.

So I would support FULL SEND if that's the way you decide to go.

None of the bearings look particularly bad at first glance, a little clean up with some newspaper should reveal all, just need to get a newspaper 🤣

Didn't Sandy Shore famously go barefoot?

So today was a little bit of a tidy up and sorting through some bits and bobs, lots still to sift through though.

New clutch and cover dug out, bottom end bolts located, 2 oil pumps so I will split them both and pick the best, flywheel removed from the reground crank and cleaned ready for assembly. Big end and main crank bearings found and ordered on eBay (y) Will likely move over to getting the head ready for use and finding the end plates and such for that next (y)

I have a 156 called Bellatrix, or Bella for short because it’s so pretty. 159 is Mighty number 9. Does that count?

My Skoda Estelle 130 was GR9.... Never felt necessary to call it 'No.2' ....

Parts have started to arrive, a little slower than hoped for and I've had to chase the full gasket set today. Fingers crossed by next weekend the bulk of it should be here.

Anyway, NOS bearings for the bottom end slapped in and given a coat of graphogen. Flywheel also on with a clean and some loctite for the threads. I have 1 oil scraper to replace on one of the pistons so once that's here I can finish off the bottom end. Just need to find a couple of plates, a tensioner and the cam chain and I can look at the cam side of things. May get to that tomorrow. Head faces have been cleaned up, tempted to send it off for a skim though it doesnt look bad for flatness.

Thanks for reading
