grizz Posted May 19 Posted May 19 Removing the rear shelves and floor liner revealing the full extent of the rust. WOULD YOU ACTUALLY TRY TO REPAIR IT?? Don’t do drugs kids. . Marshall2810, Jim Bell, jon.k and 2 others 3 2
grizz Posted May 19 Posted May 19 Just a random out of sync picture. Repair panels are available from Slovakia I have had messages from this seller about them But I certainly don’t have the money to spend on them at this point Hello, I would like to list the prices of the parts separately, the silencer mounting, one piece, 110 euros, then the complete one, including the silencer mounting and the inner fender, the price per piece is 240 euros, and then there is also the complete floor for the body, which costs 250 euros as a whole, and of course the parts can also be sent to you on delivery, as long as it is there, plus we send by post to the world, since we are a company. In Slovakia, such cars cost around 15,000 euros in good condition, worse ones cost less, but we have everything from the ground up for your model. If you would like, I can send you complete prices and list the prices of individual parts. So once you add shipping, rape taxes and duties…….. Who knows what the landed price may be. Finding an unrusted donor to cut up is probably not going to be easy. .

vaughant Posted May 19 Posted May 19 That Astro is pure sex. And whilst you're a bit fed up and gutted about the rust in the cube, terminal for most of us, a man of your skills will do it justice and if someone in Slovakia is paying €15k for one there must be money left in it. As shit as it is, and hindsight is a wonderful thing, I still think you got a good deal. I reckon the rust looks bad, but it's easily accessible, clearly hasn't been done well before, therefore giving you a great base to start from as it should all come off easily. I think you'll do it and I think you'll do it really well 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼. grizz, Mally, chadders and 1 other 2 2

I am taking the Olds to a small car show tonight. Thank you for your and @domrr and some other people’s faith in my limited abilities.
grizz Posted Thursday at 10:09 Posted Thursday at 10:09 For those following this story on here, rather than on my thread, I thought a copy and paste would help. Just to put this all into a time frame and perspective. I have only paid for transportation to my place. Unfortunately the seller went to get the V5c ownership document and found it was missing. Presumed in storage. Storage did not deliver the document. So online application was filed. Once he has a replacement copy he will then transfer ownership into my name and get a bank transfer for an amount barely enough for a European City Break and two lines of cocaine. In the meantime, after pressure washing Spartacus and having a nervous breakdown about what I found, I decided to make space and park it up in the carport for future reference. It has given me a week in which to calm down to a mild panic and formulate a plan of attack to try resurrect Spartacus I did go see if the towbar mechanism was working. Penetrating oil and a big hammer only resulted in more stress, frustration and a big pile of rust that the vibrations had removed. Although completely stupid and preemptively, I am going to see if I can find a local ( 40 mile radius ) scrapyard that will let me harvest some random rear wheel and suspension arches to use in attempt no1 of the reconstruction process. Curved and cupped sections are a pain to stand and bash out on a sandbag or in my case, hollowed out tree stump. I have spoken online to someone who tried making his own replacement parts and failed, went over to collect them and brought them back. Pics of his attempt and final results. I think they have a major design flaw in that three piece unit. And somewhere between zero and minimal seam sealing or structural integrity that resulted in movement of parts, allowing for sufficient water and corrosion inducing chemicals to enter. Go look at this video by Albert in Spain. He does some good stuff but is open about this one being a bodge job to just use it as a functional tool. stick welder? 😉 Their standard is way below my level of acceptable, but it’s allowed me some learning too. And that’s perfect. Look at how little rust there is in these rear arches from SPAIN where the roads are not salt or chemically treated for winter. But there is rust. School of YouTube We all learn here .

My lad lives in Spain, Almeria area should you need someone to post stuff to you. I'll be out there by the end of next month to move him out for a month or so though. Rusty cars are very rare out there and I'm thinking as part of a bigger plan starting a bit of a business, spare parts, repatriation of good rust free panels from older cars etc. Classic stuff out there isn't silly money but they're still treated as cars rather than show queens so some dreadful bodgery to keep them moving 🤣🤣🤣. It will be even nicer when the work has been done. Marshall2810 1
