Some of you may off seen this in the ebay thread a few weeks ago,its a 1972 Rover p6 which was originally a 2200 sc but for some reason its badged a 2000,it has been fitted with a Peugeot 205 turbo diesel engine, which was brand new when fitted roughly 9000 miles ago.

Picked it up from New kyo which is around Durham way and it drove the 300 odd miles back to Inverness perfectly, used less than half a tank which i was pretty pleased about, pulls really well,a hell of alot better than i was expecting.

Any way heres the pics ,sorry there not that great.

Hope you don't mind me asking, but how much did it cost you?

Not the most obvious conversion, I'd think, but it makes sense if you can get Durham to Inverness on half a tank! That's not bad going. And it looks in good order too, which is a bonus.

How is it for noise and vibration? 'Cos in some motors those engines can be a bit...well...noisy and vibey.

Sweet 8) Congratulations - I love the shape of P6s.

The coke bottles are a good start but you'll need to fill up the dash with old parking tickets and shit if you want the full Bill Maynard tribute look

Pete-M incoming.....

That's a top quality shite conversion. In the 80s there were Perkins diesels going into Bentleys, this is just right for the new millennium. 8)

Not at all,i won the the auction for £710,but the bloke Peter i bought it off gave me a tenner back for diesel, which was nice

Not to bad really, although above 80 the accelerator pedal starts shaking your foot like mad ,stayed at 65-70 most of the way home and it was sweet

Sound! Seems like an excellent buy, could quite fancy something like that myself. Anyone know if there's some corner of the net with plans/directions for such a project?

Now...I wonder what other non-electronic TDi's will go into old RWD saloons?

FSO used to produce the Polonez with Peugeot-Citroen 1.9 diesels, and call them Caro. I know where there's a Caro pickup, sitting quietly in a closed-down showroom here in Cyprus, about 15 years old, unused, no miles on the clock...

A fairly bonkers conversion, kind of thing I'd dream up in the pub. But actually looks to have been carried out really well, and I guess the power output isn't actually that dismal?

I wonder if it's got the Rover K series? Some really late ones got a 1400 k series mounted longways.

That's interesting, I didn't know that. Might have to look for one of those. I'm in the right place: I know the former FSO dealer for this area. I know he has a couple of fully-kitted-out ex-rally Polonezes too! :D

I was the one who found it and added it to the ebay thread, I was quite surprised at the time that it didn't get that many comments, Now i know why.

It's a great buy and very worthy of the engines thread we had a while back. U R A WINNA.

It's quite probably a fair bit quicker than a 2200, but fuxake, why do that?

The whole idea behind P6s is that they're quiet, wafty and smooth. Lobbing the evil Dr Diesel's creation* in one is so, so wrong. Arrgh.

The other thing I'm wondering, is that the standard 2200 'box I see? They were made from cheese, I'm surprised it handles the 'orrible turbo torque from the little Pug engine.

Having said all this, the PSA 1.9 oil burner isn't a bad lump as miser(y) motors go. I use Xantia TDs if I'm skint.

Right, ignoring the under bonnet molestation, have you checked out the P6 properly? Sills, inner sills, bulkhead, handbrake, de-dion tube oil level, and under the back seat around the diff mount? Have you checked the boot for any dead hookers previous keepers (bound to be a trucker there somewhere) may have forgotten to dispose of?

If it doesn't involve that thing under the bonnet, I can probably help with any other P6 related issues you may have.

*I know it wasn't exactly his creation. **

**I also respect Dr. Diesel for chucking himself off a boat when he realised that people weren't going to the bloody things solely in stationary engines.

I think this may contain traces of Sherpa.

HEROIC!! I thought of lobbing a bid or two on this myself, it's my dream car. Let me know if you ever want to sell it, as it's a lot closer to home now. :)

If it's out of a 205 it probably won't have an intercooler, that'll be the first step to gaining some power if you want to.

I would like something similar done. I think I said the other day that I would like an old shooting brake with a modern Dizzler engine in. Power performance and style with the ability to cart stuff around.

If the engine manages to shift the car like you say its full of win. Cool as milk.

On the log book as a 72 2200 but has 2000 badging and wheel??? I suspect its actually a 73 or later 2000, that has for free tax purposes, happened upon the ID of an earlier 2200!

Top quality motoring if it works, my diseasel capri was perfect mingebag motoring - did superb mpg , sadly it also broke down constantly

originally it was fitted with a mix of Escort and Sierra bits, I replaced the first broken engine with a good Sierra one, new belts the lot, lots of fettling etc.....it fried the turbo aparently :cry:

Great stuff. Can't be that bad as frankly, the four pot engine is a horrible, course affair anyway. Obviously a V8 is FTW with one of these, but the economy of this must be great.

In response to the questions, pete m yes it is a standard box,its not that bad really but im thinking about fitting a sherpa box any way so not that worried,i have not checked it out properly yet,i will probably do that this weekend and maybe underseal it.

When i told my 16 yo brother i bought it he did bring up suttcliffe funnily enough

Milf yeah no worrys youve now got first dibs on it if i ever want to sell it,as for tuning an intercooler is on the cards
