Dilemma

Morning all, as per the title - I have a dilemma.

There is a Renner 21 Savanna GTX for sale that I really want. Obviously really rare, full MOT, no structural rust etc. I could benefit from a more practical daily tbh (boot for dogs etc). It's in Ireland, im on the south coast of England, not impossible but expensive to collect and properly cunty if I view it and decide against.

I will need to sell my fully functional Citroen C6 2.2 manual to buy it(!). I know, i've had it 2 years and only replaced 2 ABS sensors, really love it etc.

Help out a poor afflicted twat who is incapable of making a decision...

The only decent photo I have.

I have a feeling it might be one of those opportunities that come up just the once. Think it's pre-facelift which is a shame, but it is a 2.0 so slapping a turbo on should be nicely do-able 😁

Likewise. Does the Citroen have to go before the renno arrives? Give you the opportunity to get it up and running, whilst still being mobile.

Love the "This is a car forum, should I buy another car? " Question 🤣🤣🤣

Yeah, the C6 would have to go first. Renner seems fully functional according to the seller, awaiting more photo's and a video as the ad has just one photo out of 5 that is not blurry AF 😂

The collection thread will be epic. Ireland is possibly the best place on the planet for a road trip in a cool car.

If it comes about then yes, will be awesome! There would have to be planes and boats and trains, probably a pretty up there poo count too.

Renault 21. Erection section.

It'd be quite a few hours of driving, that's seriously sustained blood starvation to the brain 🤣

It will probably be more reliable  in the long-term than the C6 and living on the South Coast I presume they don't salt the roads very much.

So I say go for it.

Presumably it's this one in Newry: https://www.facebook.com/share/17Z4JK2div/

If it suits your needs then why not? You've had the C6 for 2 years, so 'done' it, and you can always buy another of those. I'm guessing the market for 21 Savanna's is pretty niche, so I'd be wary of paying too much money I'd never see again.

Cheap flight to Belfast and make a weekend of it?

You are only here once (usually I say that to people about buying a Porsche or Ferrari or summat lol).

It is indeed the one in Newry on FB, it is a bit pricey and I am yet to get much out of the seller, he's at the NEC classic show this weekend (not in the 21) so hope to get more details on the car next week. Not the best ad, but my mother would say we can't all be tech geniuses 🤣

Thanks for the replies gents, you are all of course quite correct and I have been low key keeping my eye out for one for a while. One of my biggest 'against' thingies is just how refined, comfortable and climate controlled the C6 is (and it's a 2.2 manual, the only C6 that is  *sensible), but I do worry a fair bit about random catastrophic expensive failures... Let's see what the seller has to say.

Might be worth speaking to @Peter C as he bought his Sierra from NI from memory. He might have contacts for cheaper transport to get it back over here...

Cheers dude, I would hope to drive it back tbh. Cheap flight out <£50, train from Dublin to Newry £20 but expensive ferry home £200 ish. Oh and comprehensive breakdown cover 😂

Whilst Hertz is absolutely correct that I sourced my Sierra from Northern Ireland, the seller made all the transport arrangements and all I had to do was walk up to the main road and collect the car.

I have no useful advice to offer.

Don't we have some Irish members? Might be able to assist with collecting (he says, Safe in the knowledge that he's almost as far as it's possible to get from Ireland and remain in England 😁)

I am currently home in NI for a few days, and will in fact be in Newry tomorrow- but I see the seller is at the NEC so probably can't help!

I nearly had my trailer home with me too. Drat.

These were the default taxi at one point in Spain for a period in the early 90’s, the Savanna was hot property at the same time as it was amongst the 505 and Rover Montego one of the few 7 seaters. If I remember correctly the 2.0 was fitted in a different direction to the 1.7? I seem to recall at the time they were a bit on the fragile side around trim and seemed to look tatty quite readily. Somewhere I’ve an old Car Mechs buyers guide, I’ll have to look.

Yes, infamously available with 4 wheelbases! 2.0 longitudonal (sallon + estate) and 1.7 transverse (also saloon and estate).

Good old French 🤣

Yep happy to pop up for a look if available to see it. If you let me know what areas you want checked.

Go for it. Estate cars are teh useful barges.

I'm one guy running 3 cars because I utterly refuse to sell my Vectra B V6 estate.

Fatha_Sterling had a Renault Savanna as buy-and-sell stock for a bit when he briefly bought and sold cars. It was one of the most comfortable cars I'd ever sat in.
