I posted this photo in the nato green thread earlier and someone commented on how they remembered the Delica from RR back in the day.

A bit of digging tells me the MX5 parked alongside was the work of Bruce/Mysterymachine who used to be prolific on there. I remember he used to have a workshop in the Bristol area which had regular meets and which he called Area52. I never went along, but remember reading about lots of projects taking place there. A bloke called Rich was one of the key players if I remember correctly.

It must have been around a decade ago that Bruce packed up shop and headed for Wales, never to be heard of on the forum again.

Were any members on here part of the group who used to meet and what happened? Are there any splinter groups which formed afterwards? Intrigued.

I rode up and down in that thing on Brean/Berrow beach.
Hairnet shouted: 'Who ate all the pies?'

And yes, for anyone in doubt, I was into photographing stuff like a poseur/wankstain years before AS.

Ive been a member of RR for years and remember the cars. No idea what happened though.

29k posts and I had to cold turkey myself.

I struggle with wokism and some people.

But I loved that forum at the time. Sadly.

Had a similar realisation myself after a run in with a chinless wonder from the midlands....

Was there not some fall out over money ? I think at one point they charged people to work on and keep their cars there. i could be wrong though.

I was attacked publicly by one, I asked for an apology…….

Still waiting.

I have wished those who got my back up, bad health and for their families to be struck by misfortune.

Karma.

Ime it all started to go downhill after the main op asked for help to run the site.

All the little people with complexes jumped at the chance...🤦

That's a bit much for hurting your feelings.

If you were there and knew the full extent of it……. And did nothing about it, It would make you complicit.
Alternately, if you have no clue, you should reserve judgement.

It's a bit much when they "got [your] back up"...

I was lurking on the blue in the A52 days, I was about 15/16. Half my fucking life ago 😬

both the Delica and MX5 were Mystery Machine's IIRC, he bought that Land Rover, and I remember a period build mk3 Escort estate before he vanished.

eBay sponsored him to build a custom VW Transporter for some woman with Tourette's but that's the only thing I've seen of him since.

I've seen photos of @Heidel_Kakao there IIRC.

Retro Rides Weekender is a fantastic event though, and seems to be frequented by a very different group to the forum now - which seems a bit dead.

I just got a '10 sec panalty', off Rich, for circumventing the 5we@rfilter.... 😮

*think I put in (about my Exhaust weldments) .... They're $hite!

I put that wording on here all the time 😱

I used to be on there under a different username, was always more of a lurker than a poster there.

Liked the cars, hated some of the egos on there. Seem to remember some pimply little dickhead with a beige Metro on banded steels and a thoroughly ruined Peugeot 505, he thought he was the absolute bollocks and loved talking down to everyone else. Can't remember his name though.

I think I may have signed up to the RR forum as I did buy an Escort on there many years ago. I didn’t frequent it that often. I do remember though that I did read a thread on the Barry Boys forum that a Chav Saxo owner had some ‘beef’ with a Rover owner that made me laugh!

I'm actually trying to limit my time on any forums, and do something on my own vehicles, rather than just reading about the work others are (un)successfully achieving on theirs.

Going well...🙄

Pretty ironic that RR seems.to have died a death while AS remains so busy.

I remember being there in about 2007-2009ish and b0110x had a red lancia beta berlina that i considered buying. There was also a ropey white senator 24v manual for about £500 - so basically my main involvement was lurking and browsing the classified ads.

I was a member of there and here and liked aspects of both forums and created Retroshite as a result.

I think I sold Bruce my Sinclair C5, he also made parts for Morgan cars a while back. Nice chap as I recall. RetroRides forum, another one that seems sadly to be dying a death. I used to post but forgot username/login and CBA with all the admin.

I signed up on there ages ago but got absolutely no interest in anything I had. It seemed very cliquey even then. If you weren’t in it or known by someone who was you were ignored.

Tbh, it’s not really my sort of thing anyway. It seems more the place to go if you want to fuck up your car and stick bits of shit all over it if I’m honest. That Peugeot above pretty much typifies the place unfortunately. What a fucking mess.
There was a guy on there at the time with a Fiat 130 if I remember right, who was gluing it back together with pigeon shit welding like you wouldn’t believe. If anyone remembers that car that was about when I stopped bothering with the place.
