Avg. of 10.67 (6, 7, and 19)  - must do better.

Just over 32, oddly and not on purpose 4 out of the 5 I have all of them were registered within 2 years (1990-1992) of each other, 2 on a "H" one on a "J" and one on a "K" must be something about Jap cars in the early 90's :)

Mean average is all mine is 1992, so 32 years.

Mean average in the state is 15 years so I'm still ahead of the curve. Hurricane Katrina skewed those numbers for this area back in the day though. There's a lot of vehicles that date from 2007 in the city, after so many cars were flooded.

We have 16 year old bmw and a 38 year old Kawasaki modern stuff sucks but saying that I can't afford anything new anyway 😁

That stretches the term "daily driver" a bit, no?

I think that fits the ethos of daily driver? :) I would gladly hop in REV right now and do a 100 mile trip if suddenly something came up that demanded it! (ignoring the fact she is currently in The Shop getting some TLC)

ok sure I dont go out and about myself on a daily basis, its more weekly at best, because I am still limited by my disabilities  but when I do go out as you can see REV is my weapon of choice and she has been a most valuable tool in an enabling me to be able to go out in the first place, which has greatly expanded my horizons from being otherwise housebound and stuck at home!

I had to do a spread sheet to work this out, due to the mildly excessive amount of cars we have I was pleasantly surprised at the average. If I include my company car which I obviously do not own (thought it costs me the most due to company car tax) the average is 41.5 years old, with just the cars owned by myself and girlfriend the average is 42.6 years old, With the exception of the Z4 the modern cars are over 20 years old! 8 of the 34 cars we own are 1982 Cortina’s which are now around 43 years old.

37.5 years for me.

Several of the fleet are in their 20s but the figure is skewed somewhat by the 7 year old daily at one end, and the 112(!) year old at the other end....

Posted

ok, so  47 + 22 + 9, average = 26years old

We're running an 05 Legacy, with the 98 Legacy being used as a "Forest Special" and the 87 Tenere is still here too...

I need to find a news report I've read here in Bg,where they list the most popular makes and models registered both new and old.

The Mk2 Golf and Mk3 Astra usually are top of the pops and are literally everywhere.

For the cars the 6 it is 25.66 years, if I remove the oldest it falls to a spritely 17.8.

2 wheelers average is 27.5

I need something to reduce or increase the number.

For those wondering about the patterns across Europe - this is a map showing average ages by country IMG_6918.jpeg.8000250b19d0a4680b0f8bc2d4115883.jpeg

possibly not that surprising in terms of distribution…..

May also explain why more and more  particularly Latvian and Lithuanian car parts dealers are appearing with bits for old cars - they simply have more of them than we do in central and Western Europe.

Would happily devote some time to talking you into something old, unsuitable and useless. Just to help you out 🫡

Average age of my cars at purchase is around 13 yrs old. Although my only car at present was built in 2005, but not registered till 2006. Due to the Fiat Stilo immense popularity!

On a side note, the most I spent to purchase a car was £650 and the least was £30.  Average purchase price £250.

One thing I notice around Scotland in the summer is the traveling tourists over in some right old gear , Polish Fabia must have been 24/25 years old last week , highlight was a battered Audi 80 circa 1990/91 , German plates and sounded like cement mixer .....

I use my oldest as my daily, but it's not that old compared to some here, 22 year old golf gttdi, bought for next to nothing as a non runner and cost a fair bit to get running, my "Sunday" car is a 7 year old skoda karoq. It's auto and higher up which I am needing more often due to deteriorating back and legs. I also need it for towing caravan duties. I am intending keeping the golf until either it or me gives up, the skoda is unknown how long. Average is 14.5, a long way off others. The skoda at 7 still feels like a brand new car, I've owned it 2 years.

That's the thing isn't it, a 20 year old car now so long as it's not utterly clapped out can still feel damn near new.  The only thing that dates the Volvo is the entertainment system requiring me to faff about with FM transmitters.  I do intend to fit a more up to date system at some point to do away with that.

The only real reason I'd consider changing would be the fact that there's an ever increasing list of places I can't take it (which did very nearly become an issue at the start of the year when a Glasgow road closure had Google try to divert me through their LEZ, which would have cost me £60) and ever increasing road tax.  It still looks and drives like a new car otherwise!

A 20 year old car 20 years ago definitely would have felt significantly aged if you compared it to a new car in terms of driving dynamics.

Admittedly things have come full circle now with the endless array of touch screens needed to operate the indicators or open the doors in moderns and the general total lack of suspension along with 90" wheels and 10 profile tyres meaning I'd *rather* drive a car that's 20 years old!  We're long out of that late 90s/early 00s sweet spot of ergonomics and comfort it seems.

My 2 cars are virtually the same to tax, the skoda is LEZ compliant due to age, the golf gets an exemption due to me having a blue badge and I can nominate one vehicle for the exemption. So I can go and belch out diesel exhaust in the centre of Aberden if I so feel like it. PS despite being a pd 150 it runs as clean as a whistle, no smoke and gives 12 to 14 mpg better than the skoda.

My 11 strong fleet of shite averages out at 40.5 years old. Oldest is 1964, newest is 2007 - this includes the two wheeled stool. Four wheelers only averages out at 36.5.
