Rescued!

Wow, that car's lucky I didn't get it. Much as I like Acclaims, the engine would be finding it's way into my Mk1 Civic pronto

Well done! I like them too, took ours to France a couple of times in the late '90s.

That is lovely. Poverty-spec model as well! Is it a manual or Trio-matic semi auto transmission? These Acclaims are amazingly nippy and fun to drive, particularly in auto guise, as the first gear (L) is so low it can beat just about anything away from the lights ;)

I so wanted it to be a Trio-matic! Pov spec is lovely when it's pretty much untouched!

I thought you'd like an update. Buffed the little Trumpet, booked a ferry, packed it with a mate and our boys and buggered off to France & Belgium, did 500 miles in 4 days without a hitch, runs really smooth past 90 (honestly by mistake), a great car!

Too much information?

Gold has to be the best colour for these cars. Looks like it scrubbed up really well, looks excellent! Funnily enough I saw a red one drive past earlier this week, first time Ive seen one moving on the road for absolutely ages.

Fantastic!

What's the difference between the L, HL and HLS? Did they all have the same engine?

Posted

They all had the same 70hp 1335cc engine. Differences were limited to trim and equipment.

Well done Torsten! That really has come up nicely, love the AA badges in true giffer style! I have serious want for one of these at the moment.

Don't forget the CD! Our's was a 1982 CD model in black, which had all the refinements including electric windows, velour seats and chrome bits on the bumpers. Probably some other stuff as well. That was a great little car, took us all the way to Devon and back, 5 up, plus trailer and gear, cruising at 80+! VRY 972X was the reg, died about a year after we sold it, which was a bit premature in my opinion. The guy who bought it was about 100 so he probably wrote it off.

I went to look at one of these today, but I'm going to save that for another thread..

Superb. I'd really like an Acclaim. I did once go and look at one but it was a touch rotten and pumped out more blue smoke than a Trabant, so I politely declined to pay £250 for it.

Torsten, Yesterday.

My word it's not so Triumphant on cobbles!

Great save there Torsten, glad to see its in a safe pair of hands. There is one ro two really ropey Brown Acclaims around the Black Country somewhere.

Funnily enough I've always wanted to take my cars with me to Belguim but never seem to be in a postion to do so. :?

I say maybe one day, but I doubt it.

Car looks great - I've always fancied a nice Acclaim due to it's Honda Civic background.

My ex girlfriend bought a gold one after we split up so it reminds me of her.......
