Get out of your parent's attic and GET A FUCKING JOB, you sad cunt.

Which to my mind seriously undermines the accuracy of Wikki. One mans opinion and all that bollocks.

Think I will just stick with uploading photos of old mills and cars and tits in Commons.

So how do you actually create a new entry?

Posted

Well I started by chucking in Autoshite to the search engine - it told me there wasnt a page with that name and asked me if I would like to create one... The rest is geography....

Posted

Gotcha, cheers.

link fixed for talbot tagora

You may notice that the Talbot Tagora wiki page has been awarded a gold star (see top right corner) which means it has achieved their highest rating for quality of information and layout!!! 8)

I don't think another car entry has ever been awarded it!!

Nowt to do with me. :( ....didn't post the picture either!!

The gold star means it was featured on the front page. Given the number of visitors to Wikipedia, that's probably a better ad campaign than Talbot managed

I was wondering if Autoshite had ever had a Wikipedia page, last night whilst laid in bed in the middle of the night.

According to this thread it did, though was removed by Wikipedia as we are 'just a forum'

WRONG, we are not just a forum, we are also an ideology.

In my opinion, Autoshite as a 'car forum' is different to Autoshite as an 'ideology', if a forum page cannot cannot exist on Wikipedia then an 'Autoshite ideology' page may be permitted.

This viewpoint on the problem hasn't yet been discussed in this thread, it may be worth consideration.

'Anonymous', the hacking group has a Wiki page; they are primarily a forum related to an ideology, with a physical and social aspect as a resulting factor.

Similarly, Autoshite is PRIMARILY an ideology, with physical (cars) and social aspect (bants/lolzcats/Shitefest).

Therefore, can someone with a penchant for creating accurate Wiki pages please make an attempt to create an AS ideology page?

I think you could start with shitefest as the bulldog bash is on the list of UK festivals in wiki and they only have 2 wheels each.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_festivals_in_the_United_Kingdom

50 blokes in a muddy feild full of shite cars drinking cider and pissing behind a tree is a bit different to a properly organised motorcycle gathering, with 50,000 atendees!

The Bulldog Bash is an annual motorcycle rally, with a reported attendance of 50,000 people in 2007. It takes place over a weekend in mid-August, at the Shakespeare County Raceway, which is situated outside Stratford-upon-Avon in England.

Autoshite is an ideology formed from preserving and running vehicles past the standard life expectancy in an attempt to gain motorised transport on a minimal budget taking into account finance and depreciation costs as well as maintenance.

It has its roots in the book Bangernomics by James Ruppert and also in the now defunct early 1990's magazine Jalopy - both publications emphasised the economic virtues of running near end of life vehicles as daily transport with the owners being encouraged to maintain these vehicles themselves to minimise costs. The Autoshite ethos has a small following supported by a web forum where help and advice is available.

Autoshite followers also gather annually for their appropriately named "Shitefest" where a wide selection of vehicles are displayed, there is food, drink and camping and an activity that involves visiting an unusual place or museum featuring mechanical objects.

To some extent the Bangernomics principle declined with the reduction in traditional scrapyards within the UK, brought about by changes to European legislation governing ground pollution and disposal of controlled or hazardous waste resulting in some reduction in the availability of cheap spares for cars.

Please someone edit this and add more to it before it gets binned off

I added a few things:

Autoshite is an ideology formed from preserving and running vehicles past the standard life expectancy in an attempt to gain motorised transport on a minimal budget taking into account finance and depreciation costs as well as maintenance. Another integral part of the Autoshite ideology is the firm belief, that the longer a car is used for daily transportation, the smaller its negative impact on the environment, since no new car has to be produced to replace it. The Autoshite ideology is predominantly based on physical economy, not financial. A small group within the Autoshite movement collects and preserves old cars which are not considered collectible by the mainstream classic car movement. This is motivated by the same appreciation for form and function as collecting art, or artifacts, instead of seeing them as potential investments.

The Autoshite ideology has its roots in the book Bangernomics by James Ruppert and also in the now defunct early 1990's magazine Jalopy - both publications emphasised the economic virtues of running near end of life vehicles as daily transport with the owners being encouraged to maintain these vehicles themselves to minimise costs. Please check whether this is OK.

We also need to add citations and references.

I'm also thinking a (properly cited) reference to the scrappage scheme would be relevant in this context and might help our cause.

Only if we would have a direct connection to it, e.g. formally protested against it.

One such Notability mention adding credibility would be the Urban Dictionary: http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=autoshite

Another would be Definithing.com: http://definithing.com/autoshite/

More proof that the Autoshite ideology is recognized more commonly than merely the forum: http://practicallyclassics.phpbbhosts.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=349

Effectively, we need to prove that Autoshite is a term commonly used to describe our ideology.

Is there anything to show the term's use outside of the name of a website, or is this really just an article about the website? --McGeddon (talk) 13:36, 18 November 2015 (UTC)

The term is used both on the web (and website) and in the motoring press ( Practical Classics, BrownMag) - the ethos of autoshite has basically taken over from Bangernomics as a term used when referring to running older vehicles as a daily mode of transport. I will attempt to add citations to that effect though

Someone else get adding citations then before the page gets binned.

Made a few edits, great page but sadly I think it will be deleted under the notability criteria.   Can we just save it on this thread periodically?

Haven't there been magazine articles on the subject of autoshite? That would increase notability.

EDit: Yes, Barefoot did an article about preparing "Sctsh breakfast" at one of the Welsh Shitefests in an issue of The Barefoot Chef.

Any chance he could reference it in Wikipedia?

Autoshite is an actual movement as well as an ideology, as evidenced by the regular meetings and purchases of chod. We are all devoted to 'the Cause'.

Why not have an 'About Us' section on this forum and stuff Wikipedia?

I'm sure that Bangernomics book was out in 1992, not 2010.
