Tadah!

It started off great, as it's battery was dead. All we had was this stupid battery charger which didn't really do anything. So some jump leads were bought over from someone she knew who was only 5 minutes away and she fired into life!

Just driven it home. It's got 150k, no history, 2 keys, decent winter tyres and no locking wheel key. Wcpgw?

IMG20250206165747.thumb.jpg.04e601cf47ff59616f72d89d8d57cd8a.jpg

IMG20250206165729.thumb.jpg.6f80eb326a32e057c6d2c3d95c9f4548.jpg

IMG20250206165724.thumb.jpg.c4e030149a0b536d7866d7349cf08d52.jpg

Is generally a bit knocky from somewhere/many places but knowing the shit roads it's been driven on for the last few months it's not a surprise.

Feels amazing though! Tight, fairly responsive, the air con and heater seems to work and after 5 minutes I figured out how to get air to the windscreen!

Fired straight back up once home so hopefully it just needs a drive.

The manual pack was almost bereft of anything of use

IMG20250206173643.thumb.jpg.12f319a610786e25b0c9817a5f3638ff.jpg

Except the code I'd need to order a new locking wheel key which is fab!

Not alot will happen tonight but I'm off work tomorrow so intend to crawl all over it and make an initial list for servicing. Might go out for a drive later when the roads are quieter again, see how much better the headlights might be from the xsaras

no history..duff battery..the max on your budget..knocking suspension

you like to live dangerously!

Hope it serves you well but don’t be surprised to spend a fair bit of £ on it. The engines on these are great though.

TADTS.

It's a Qashqai. They absolutely EAT drop links for breakfast like no other car ever to hit the road. They are massively under specced.

To the point that you can get aftermarket heavy duty ones, which last twice as long and only need changed 5x as often as a normal car, as opposed to 10x as many as OEM.

If you get a year out of the heavy duty ones, you've done well. They normally last 6-8 months. OEM?, 3-4 months. Cheap 'get me through the MOT' ones?, Weeks. rather than months.

It's deffo a drop linkey sound, and after a 2nd small drive earlier almost as if it's from the back? Does it have tiny Smoll ones at the rear?

If I can't magically find the locking wheel key under the spare wheel or similar I'll need to either get one ordered, or see if I can get 4x normal nuts and see if any tyre places can remove the wheel nuts maybe? Do they have kits that can do it or should I just buy the key?

Found one for £45 but want to search some more. Luckily I've got the code card to make it easy

Hoping to see a full "34 bucket" shift on this.

Clay bar/machine polish ceramic coating then about 14hrs doing an interior clean.

Looks decent and hope it works well for you!

Thanks! I've neve lived dangerously before, so it's new territory for me too 😂

It's gonna get sub £200 thrown at it fairly quick, which includes the cost of a cambelt kit and oil, which seems reasonable... It needs a bit of tidying up but nothing huge so far, not spent prpepr time under it yet, that s tomorrows job.

Also max budget, but only on what I'd saved so far! I've got a wedge more now as the dysons have kept coming so I'm hoping if I quickly do some mild servicing on it now it'll be alright!

There were £2k ones with more miles in worse looking condition 🤷

I'm going to save up another £500 though and keep that tucked away just incase it does all go wrong and I need to come crawling back to simple cheap cars again. Seems a sensible thing to do

But then this is a cheap car in 2025... Probably  a £1200 car using @NorfolkNWeigh maths at its proper as it should be value and pricing, I've paid a fair fb marketplace rate for it and she showed me her phone, she had tons of messages so it's what it is I guess

The most urgent and pressing concern is the ICE. and that's the In Car Entertainment type...

The Bluetooth is only for voice calls 😂 Totally not the end of the world long term and I do have android auto head unit plans as they are cheap for it, however that is nowhere near the top or even middle of the list! Wtf so I do now? I don't even have (quick) means of burning mp3 cd's, what's happened to me 😭

So I went hunting and found my box of cd's, and found 6 shiny discs to fit into the dashboard 😱

I then found and armed my nugg! This mostly gets used for this purpose of shit audio system bodgery and after 6+ years of not being needed it was time!

IMG20250206201947.thumb.jpg.bcb08b7d09405140b6d15c059849549c.jpg

Battery still works well (did charge it up and use it a few weeks ago to test Charlie's gaming chair so it wasn't a total unknown).

I plugged it in and chucked some albums on it and with only aux in and 6 cd's (and the radio but fuck that) I'm ready to survive a short while

IMG20250206204546.thumb.jpg.187494c4f61171e3854e822547d50cc1.jpg

I'm sure I remember @maxxo@maxxo being excited about tapes the other week and here I am being excited about going through my old CD collection that I really haven't looked at in years. It's all been ripped to mp3 decades before but the discs don't get played alot.

I can't wait for that 😂 The paintwork is mint vs the Xsara. Way down the list though, I want to jet wash the underside before the top side tbh... With my short stubby lance now I might well do that when the weather warms up just a tiny bit

I suspect this will be the key you need. 065

It has the code that is apparently need to get the proper one. But I ordered the one above and it's in the post now so I've rolled the dice! It's deffo not in the car though (big post coming once I've written it 😂)

The next day. When the reality of your rash decision that you've been part planning for for months has happened, but you weren't planning for it to happen NOW...

Hello K9K. I think I read that this doesn't have a DPF... I couldnt see the ECU it should have for it that the random forum post I found from 2021 said it should have

image.thumb.jpeg.914ba1c4f97307af49d970e467bf8c5c.jpeg

The easiest way I've ever checked the overall servicing of a car is to look at the air filter

image.thumb.jpeg.a4f3cfb17a8b297f91571b35ccffd6eb.jpeg

which wasn't horrible, decent enough! Lots of detritus at the bottom of the air box though. (where is the air intake on this?)

image.thumb.jpeg.ca3f088a5dd10dd290843668d0a2695d.jpeg

Cordless vac to the rescue

image.thumb.jpeg.b46c3b7a9d053de42e8886a768266510.jpeg

All that refitted, I took the engine cover off (which seems really loose and shite fit... Can I bin it off or is there a knack to it?)

image.thumb.jpeg.b9f02b3faa0dc5a37924661f3d096e0a.jpeg

image.thumb.jpeg.3f9127d7ba46e5be222c9dfb5963ccf3.jpeg

Rocker cover looks like it can be ignored for now

image.thumb.jpeg.d1c451b55a2f5e90f7b82ccadaca3997.jpeg

Aux belt isnt falling apart

image.thumb.jpeg.cde5f5393184a3c7055ffa28200e97be.jpeg

Coolant looks a very dark green...

image.thumb.jpeg.b86a3fe1be0534d22b0dc84ed744299e.jpeg

Brake fluid looks clean enough and at the right level

image.thumb.jpeg.17be704921f6ef51537e18104868e0a4.jpeg

It's got oil, and the correct amount of it

image.thumb.jpeg.64f0deb01ca18cd954ffdcaaab819496.jpeg

I put the engine cover back on and peered down the back of the engine. All looked ok enough, did spot this quite clean/worn clean looking bit on the anti foll bar by it's bush

image.thumb.jpeg.f13cdaf21a41f4d30ab59a505fd16887.jpeg

What I then did, was realise I could peel enough of the cambelt cover off to check the belt

image.thumb.jpeg.631bfbcc54b4effe3da9be19e4407c93.jpeg

Which is now immediatly at the top of the to-do list 😯

I left the vacinity of the engine bay and made myself forget about that by going through the boot. Nice plasticky/rubbery boot tray with it (which immediatly blew away and I had to put it on the back seat...)

image.thumb.jpeg.e3b5ddd8227274028ebd715db38d10ef.jpeg

It does have a spare. Sadly a space saver, no more being safe in the knowledge I have a full sized wheel ready

image.thumb.jpeg.bac2e646848ec597aca9408b6b00f114.jpeg

It was also damp...

image.thumb.jpeg.d699cfc8f4239a36814fe9eea0024234.jpeg

Not damp enough that I think it's leaking, it's probably a ton of condensation but it's all been dried out now and I'll check in on it another month

I went around all the glass and cleaned it, the windscreen was filthy and struggled to clear itself with the shite yesterday driving home

image.thumb.jpeg.c35cced4a12856b47de2f588330cefbc.jpeg

And sprayed all the hinges with grease. The front check straps on the doors are pretty knackered, as are the tailgate struts. As is the rear view mirrow, whatever it's doing it's de-laminating...

image.thumb.jpeg.e1c31cfb5f2b0cef3310396f9bb3409f.jpeg

I noticed that the back passenger side disc

image.thumb.jpeg.248788393e5e34ec91db43cb957ebda5.jpeg

wasn't wearing as evenly as the drivers side rear disc

image.thumb.jpeg.67592f0dbb213725c28bbcac4c014019.jpeg

but it brakes perfectly fine (so far) so I'll see if that cleans itself up a bit over the next few weeks.

The back wiper blade was fucked. The fronts were Bosch blades and after a good scrub seem to have come round ok. So I nicked the back wiper from the Xsara, cut it's blade down to fit and fitted that back to the QQ's rear arm

image.thumb.jpeg.8a4c290343984187036c6ff979aba0ad.jpeg

image.thumb.jpeg.27151fc1e9027ff33f9a634bc9d027bb.jpeg

image.thumb.jpeg.0250b7af69b5b3e35672be5634722463.jpeg

This is the only bit of cosmetic damage bar a few stone chips here and there that there is! Which is fab as that's probably where I'm going to hit it one day too

image.thumb.jpeg.5cb12229b3b9a12bf835ce9f706b9d12.jpeg

This all took a couple of hours. Happy enough, I went and got my CD's ready to fit them into the dash and went to start the car... It barely fired again, the battery has no charge at all... Which reminded me, these look shitty

image.thumb.jpeg.4373e2a1207022db195ed0752593fd22.jpeg

image.thumb.jpeg.af12c5331f8d5e04eb1eaec5db7ac2bc.jpeg

had some greasy crap on that I presume once was some sort of protectant.. Cleaned it all up

image.thumb.jpeg.7f9edf9c9a2e0418302a168a7791a9a7.jpeg

and she fired up. Multimeter shows 14.59v on idle which seems a tad low...It also does the stupid relay click of doom the blue laguna used to do, it bought back memories! So, in leui of my having a nice long trip this afternoon (with some nice recovery/breakdown cover on my insurance now) which might fix the battery issue by itself, I grabbed the battery from the xsara and my jump leads

image.thumb.jpeg.ca5e248d4e8f93b2992d5c8009b83fee.jpeg

Leaving at 2ish, will chuck £40 of nice* diesel in it and take a nice waft. A nice, sensible, low-revs cambelt friendly waft. Off shopping now...😂

Looks alright that (bar the cambelt).

14.5 is about what I'd want to see charging wise, so no worries there.

Thanks!

I'm going to pretend im just a middle aged woman who has bought a car to take the kids to school in and double park by the villiage hall on Thursdays and I dont even know what a cambelt or engine is, and see how it drives to coventry and back today.

Tomorrow assuming all is well I'll hit go on this

image.thumb.png.dba353ebf90e638fee5464f9f41aae15.png

and make plans. Belt doesnt look truly utterly perished, and nothing is making any noise pulley wise, I'll just not bounce it off the limiter for now.

Did I mention I ticked the (fairly reasonably priced tbh) recovery and breakdown cover with this? 😂 Its costing more to insure anyway than the Xsara so the £6 extra a month isn't hurting

It's not exempt as it doesn't fit the criteria for exemption. For some reason the ULEZ system interprets it as complying with the specification.

It says exempt on the checker

Although @abir246 did say it might need cross referencing

Not that it makes a blind bit of difference mostly, would be cool if it was otherwise dad's enyaq can do Spalding to London and back on one set of AA's 🤷 He only needed to stop for half an hour when he did his-mine-Kentish Town-mine-Spalding last time

@LightBulbFun what do you reckon?

what taxation class is it in? if its in the Disabled taxation class then it will show as exempt on a lot of things, also what emissions data is recorded on the V5? if NOx or Perticulate matter data is MIA then sometimes the ULEZ will take it as a compliant amount :)

Dont get a gates kit . The tensioners and water pumps are wank now . INA ones from GSF are the best bet now and not expensive

Piss off, im not being held responsible for putting a thread about a bloody qashqai in the main forum... That's a war I don't want to start by accident

Can you imagine 😂

I popped into town earlier and made a Dyson v11 and v7 refurb turn into money into my account in readiness. If anyone might be knowledgeable enough to perhaps drop a part number of a nice, full complete known decent kit I can paste into ebay and  hit go on I'd give them many beers another day in a field in the rain somewhere 👌

(can be a bit more £ but I want the tensioner and idler and everything. )

No, it says it meets the emissions standards. Exemption would be for something like being 40+ years old or being in the disabled taxation class.

There is an important difference between compliance and exemption.

Fair enough. I'm not going to pretend to understand it yet! I don't think it's disabled tax or etc, was normal tax, it was untaxed and i taxed it with the green slip fine online (under £1 a month cheaper to tax than the Xsara 😂

Re belt kit, this one then? https://www.gsfcarparts.com/products/cam-timing-belt-kit-water-pump-za028863
