Havent touched anything yet - I not even sure what bulbs it will take! Will investigate.
Z4 should be a d2s bulb ... Usually around £20 each

Have you replaced the bulb units? The gas goes off over time and they get duller ... The smax wasn't great put a new pair of xenon units in and was night and day

One this week. At £40 for a genuine Osram at trade prices it'll be a while till the other gets done. Like when it feckin breaks 😁

The suspension should auto rise/fall so if you start in 2 it will drop to 3 then 4 (if 1 is highest) as you drive faster.

A good pal of mine is an ex-VW master technician. He had an A6 Allroad 2.5 TDI that rarely behaved itself. That thing challenged him constantly, but on the few occasions I drove it I found it a pleasant enough thing to drive.

He had suspension issues with it most of the time. He often bought the expensive bits to fix it and found the issue to be something small afterward.

Good luck. Hopefully yours behaves impeccably.

I noticed it hunker down when I was doing 70 on the motorway, he did raise himself back up again as well

I am thinking though, bearing in mind he's not my daily driver.. IF he misbehaves too much I'll put him on springs. Not ideal but that would solve any air-suspension problems. And he's ok to go off the road for a bit if he does have issues as the Espace is here, which is like the Top Gear back up car. lol

Her 2007 z4 has xenons. They're shit as well. I get the feeling more modern headlight design and lens materials are to blame for a lot of shit output. I've had much older cars with far better headlight output than a lot of moderns.

How old are the bulbs? Xenons tend to dim and change colour with age than just fail. Replacing them with new ones on our 2010 A4 at 190k with original bulbs was a stark difference. Only go for genuine Osram or Philips bulbs.

Also I find many lights are too low. Often I adjust them up a tad as the MOT pass area is massive.

Indeed. There's one I've just done went bright pink! In fairness I've had 3 BMs now with "angel eye" type headlights. E39 without xenons E46 and this Z4 with. And they've all been a bit shit in the headlight department. So I still reckon it's mainly headlight design. My old Fiesta in comparison has dead good headlight output on just normal bulbs.

Projector headlights have a very sharp cut-off. Older reflector headlights have a more gradual cut-off. So if too low, a projector headlight is much more noticeable the lack of light being thrown forwards.

I'll bow to your knowledge on this Si. I'll have a look at it 👍

Im not sure this photo does it justice, they look brighter on a photo than in actual use.

Sidelights and dipped-beam, plus fog lights for extra light (I know I know shouldn't have fog lights on etc)

Been on a big trip today in the big lad. Hull to Darlington, then to Ayecliffe, then to York and back home. 300’odd miles. He’s done well. That cost me half a tank which I think is reasonable.
Hes covered in crap off the back roads!

An absolutely flawless drive.

There is a slight whistle as you slow down from say 60 to 30, I think it’s the custom prop-shaft. It whistles for a second or two.

He needs a clean now! Car wash next week!

More updates to come soon!

(Better photos to come had kids with me)

Been pricing up this morning, Autodoc, Autodata Partslink etc as no record of cam belt and associated been done.

On the absolute off chance this morning I went to my garage and took the engine cover off, I hate engine covers on high-mileage cars they end up becoming a bit rough and rub through pipes etc so thought id take the cover off and store it in my garage.

Low and behold......

Thats saved me some cash!!!!!!!!!!!!

So Ill spend some money on a better battery instead, spin over is a bit slow when its really cold -3 -4 etc, after the initial start its fine so I reckon battery is a bit weak. Looking to get a Varta/Bosch 100AH, 830 CCA and new Tyres instead!

Lots of the Teenage Vanclub lot are enjoying Nexen all seasons currently.

I've bought four sets of Goodyear Vectors in the last couple of years and rate em.  Might stretch to cross climates next time to see if they last any longer.

Ive just whacked a pair of Goodyear Vectors in my watch list that are currently on ebay. £90 for a pair so thinking of getting fronts done first. Got Toyo's on at the minute and I dont like Toyos... didnt like them on the Vectra B I had either.

Perhaps don't go for the Toyo Open Country ATs I'm running on my XC70 then!

I like them, a good all season, all terrain general compromise, as I'm either wafting down the M6 or hauling firewood across the fields.

Hmmmm to be fair, these ones I have do look a bit budget... I would expect the Open Country AT's to be a bit more premium.. I'll check them out!

You'd struggle to find any legit tyre fitter that would fit tyres that age anyway!

I really miss my A6 Allroad. Fabulous car. Thought about buying another on my way home from work but remembered I’m a mechanic and need a Landrover, and my bank is empty. Oh well!

Drove mine today after a week of slumming it in the Espace (haha) fell in love with it all over again lol, the way it delivers power is so great! so smooth! Even a none car person I gave a lift to was saying how luxurious it was!
