Station Posted June 8, 2010 Posted June 8, 2010 buy this for 200 quid tax and test? Surely worthy of a few months of cheap motoring? http://retrorides.proboards.com/index.c ... read=81800
ashmicro Posted June 8, 2010 Posted June 8, 2010 £200 can't go wrong at that. Probably would polish up reasonably well, too.
Minimad5 Posted June 8, 2010 Posted June 8, 2010 Price a clutch first If you need a hand with it, then throw me a message / txt. If you buy it, you HAVE TO get some "powered by fairy dust" stickers whilst it is still pinky red
Station Posted June 8, 2010 Author Posted June 8, 2010 ^ Think that's sorted with the addition on the back: Clutch 40 quid And bodge on an old exhaust from somewhere! GR8 for attractin womin. rear dor 4 back seat lovin.
Lukas Posted June 8, 2010 Posted June 8, 2010 Horrible looking, very small and very uncomfortable car...
fearthecat Posted June 8, 2010 Posted June 8, 2010 I think whoever buys it should use some 'frosted glass spray' so the windows look as faded as the rest of the car.
Station Posted June 8, 2010 Author Posted June 8, 2010 Two of those things could echo the current car I have! Does anyone know what 'freckle off an Italian' mean?
Milford Cubicle Posted June 8, 2010 Posted June 8, 2010 I think wuvvum and Nigel Bickle really rate these. what more can you ask for?
Station Posted June 8, 2010 Author Posted June 8, 2010 It says in the advert that, and I quoth, 'it's been sat up since October, as the old man died when he drove back from the MOT'. GR666 4 possessed accidents.
Minimad5 Posted June 8, 2010 Posted June 8, 2010 I think thats the last thing we all need, a dead Dave.
autofive Posted June 8, 2010 Posted June 8, 2010 It says in the advert that, and I quoth, 'it's been sat up since October, as the old man died when he drove back from the MOT'. GR666 4 possessed accidents.the shock of a MOT pass perhaps?
Minimad5 Posted June 8, 2010 Posted June 8, 2010 Dave if you are going to get this, give me a shout and i will come with you (Taking the camera of course). It'll be a laugh. And in the even of a sudden death, i will take many pictures. Maybe the old guy died from Clutch smoke inhalation
Pete-M Posted June 8, 2010 Posted June 8, 2010 Aren't these worth about £2bn and capable of 900 mpg? I thought not. Do you not think it would get very boring, very quickly? It would be difficult to beat for disposable motoring in a few ways, but it's not impossible to find a fully working, taxed and tested Xantia TD for only a few quid more and the Xantia would be an infinately preferable thing to actually spend time in. Xantias are good things. Little Korean econoboxes are rarely anything other than dire.
Volksy Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 Yeh, but I dig fizzy econoboxes, as much as wafty saloons. I bet they are an absolute hoot to drive, on their terrain.
Station Posted June 9, 2010 Author Posted June 9, 2010 Yeah, just for literally a couple of weeks. Getting quotes of 500 quid (cheapest). Why the hell can't I get cheaper insurance anymore? I'm suddenly paying twice what I normally do.
nigel bickle Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 Do indeed rate. Equipped each offspring with one, taxed, insured, Mot'd for1 yr- their decision thereafter. The 1300's are a hot to drive, dirt cheap to run & ultra reliable. Each was duly sold on, by said offspring ,for a tidy profit. And they're so ugly you dont need to ever lock them!
MrDuke Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 Only buy it if you're intending to recreate the original whitewall tyres. They were the single best thing about them.
Tartan58 Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 I learnt to drive and sat my test in one of those. To be fair I didn't have much to compare it against at the time but I wouldn't rush to get in another one! Just bland, surely there's much more interesting options for £200.
gtd2000 Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 They are well regarded in the USA for achieving fairly stellar mileages - manufactured in Korea but with Ford Festiva badges and solid Mazda mechanicals. As mentioned - not exactly of aesthetic interest but good basic transport none the less. Not interference engines too, I believe..., so no need to worry about cambelts even when they snap!

M'coli Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 Just bland, surely there's much more interesting options for £200.Isn't that one of the points of Autoshite?
Tartan58 Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 Just bland, surely there's much more interesting options for £200.Isn't that one of the points of Autoshite? Meh, perhaps - I'm just a newby with 5 posts though so what do I know Too new to be interesting Autoshite was my thinking...
MK5 Escort Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 £200 for it sounds okay to me. Personally, I'd be tempted to keep it into next year - just to get some of your money back (or money's worth, rather) from the exhaust and clutch it needs. Then flog it next spring for £300-325. Indeed, other than the offside front wing which would probably require a mop, I suspect that would polish up quite well with a good morning's/afternoon's work and I reckon the bumpers would come up quite well too. Mmmmm - velour seats too! You just don't get them any more...
