Some awful Murigan wank (AMC?) in that silly one with the corkscrew jump.

Gold AMC Matador.  Which I almost bought back in 2002.  (One of them at least - there were several cars used for filming.)  The seller also had the Sherpa van with the ripped roof (or one of them) - that wasn't for sale though.

Nice curry shop in Tavistock I've only been to a couple of dozen times.

Worst. Bond. Ever.

Well friends, it's finally happened. We're at the end of the Brosnan years. And by God is he not going gently into that good night.

Join us for a ""Celebration"" ""of all things Bond"" as the movie sucks itself off for being the 20th Bond film so hard that it forgets to actually be a movie in and of itself.

I'm enjoying the Bond thread. I need entertainment on a journey like this.

10 minute delay for some inaudible reason. Why are train speakers so bad. My hearing is pretty good and I can't make out what they are saying. Most others in the carriage are a fair bit older and I'm not sure they are aware that anything is being said.

Deer on the track apparently. Maybe we need some of those 'roo bars on the front like they have in Australia?

Hmm, your day job involves driving around and measuring rainfall...sounds ideal, especially in the summer! Anyway, chodspeed

Makes sense.

Good luck with the collection.

M5/M6/M54 is the easy option, but I’d be tempted to go off at Worcester, A449 to Kidderminster and onwards to Bridgnorth and Shrewsbury, then pick up the A5.

Might give that a go actually.

Missed one bus due to train delay but a short walk into Okehampton got me on the next one.

The front isn’t usually the issue, they make a bit of a bang but usually no major damage. It’s the pipes and other associated bits they tend to damage when they roll underneath and the legs flail everywhere.

Going through Wales feels a bit like cheating because another large part of my job involves driving around it so I know those roads well. Probably be the most relaxing. We'll see.

There’s the joy* of The OK Diner at Leominster 👍

Need articulated arms with snips that come out and cut the legs off before the scoop scoops. 😁 Having gone that far it would be rude not to add a halal and kosher-approved slaughtering facility and the meat can be sold to the passengers. 🤣

It's lovely and sunny here (I live in Cwm Y Glo so not far from you I guess?) so you won't need your coat when you get back. Have a good journey.

I am just the other side of Beran. I have certainly seen an Autoshite sticker on a Toyota Corolla at that garage. Was that you?

Michaelwood services. M5 ok so far but wet, wet, wet. Van performing well. It doesn't have the poke of my green T4 but inside is a much more refined place to be.

Not me, although I do use that garage. I'm currently driving a C15.

Hope you have a good run down the A5 - I always try to bring a new purchase home that way - so much more fun than the A55.

Any poo's so far?

Poo count was 1 for the record. Okehampton train station. I would give it a couple of days tbh as it was like that scene from Goldmember. "WHO DOES NUMBER TWO WORK FOR?"

A5 is a great drive but I A55'd it on the end. Google said it was quickest and quickness was what I was after by that point. I was also in the zone and was quite happy not doing much gear changing or steering.

Especially Yesterday

We missed the crash and subsequent closing of the Conway Tunnel westbound yesterday by about 10 minutes, heading for Ynys Mon.

My son spotted the hold up coming later from Bromsgrove, and came up the M54, and A5.  Without the crash Google maps would put it 15 mins slower but 35 miles shorter on a good day.

Daughter. Not so lucky Coming from Manchester. Sat in traffic trying to find an alternative route via the Great orme.  Not sure how her "detour" was going to help. But eventually she got back on the A55 and arrived 2 hours later than planned.

There is an alternative to the A55 but it involves splitting the clueidian hills in half

Which Bond film is that?

Side thread: Shitey Bond vehicles. I'm excited to see a Sherpa featured. Rennow 11 memorably, MK4 Mondeo, 2CV. Some awful Murigan wank (AMC?) in that silly one with the corkscrew jump. Defender. Shirley some Ladas or ZAZ somewhere?

Was there ever a Mini in Bond? It was used to great effect by Mr Bourne.

I can only think of a couple of Minis in the ice-racing scene in On Her Majesty's Secret Service, and the various Mokes that are usually the villain's general-purpose runabouts in their secret underground lair; not to mention the rental that Bond uses briefly in Live And Let Die.

ETA:  Plenty of Lada police cars in The Living Daylights and Goldeneye, and I want one of those Czech-liveried copcars: they can catch an Aston Martin V8 on ice!

Dont recall a Mini, but he did get a lift in a Green Ford Ka in Quantum of Solace , and an old bug.

Several old bugs in fact; he even gets a lift in one just before the big Alfa chase in Octopussy.  (Wasn't the KA gold?)

Exactly, see above.

A perfectly good film stunt utterly spoiled by some foley tosser adding a swanny whistle.

He got a lift in a Zaz of some kind in Goldeneye. Again spoiled by ridiculousness, it was "started" by the character walloping the cooling duct with a sledge hammer.

Jack Wade, CIA, played with blatant relish by Joe Don Baker, who in the previous 007's first outing (The Living Daylights) had played Brad Whittaker, nasty arms dealer.

Cannot possibly agree.  But, you may not have seen No Time To Die or Moonraker, so I'll be generous.  Trust me, NTTD claims that title by a country mile.

Scaramanga drove an AMC Matador and Bond stole an AMC Hornet X in The Man with the Golden Gun. How are they awful? They're awesome cars! Particularly the Hornet

Cannot possibly disagree!

A full house

I'll shuffle the pack and move the work van to the work car park. The green one and the grey one are for sale. I'd better go and do some non car related activities before the divorce papers are served. Thanks @HMC it was lovely meeting you.

It's a bit grim outside, misty and wet. Considering a large part of my job is measuring rainfall I shouldn't really be surprised that the weather is different in different parts of the UK.

Muck Fe,  you've had a busy year then

Oh Christ. There is all sorts of man reasoning and man maths going on in my head and there is no logic behind any of it. Maybe I could keep the green T4 and turn it into a camper and keep the yellow one and just run it as a family car? The Berlingo has to go though even though it's just an innocent bystander in all of this.

I may have some mansplaining to do...
