It's a 998 engine as well. When did BL decide to fit the 998 to these? I thought the longer Clubman-fronted Minis were at least 1100s! This would be the 'yellow-block' A+ Series 998 by that point, no?

I'm not sure, but these late Mini estates were badged HL instead of Clubman and I don't think the engines were A+ specification.

They were built up to mid 2007 and all were LHD.

Renault claimed the original Twingos were too hard to convert to RHD, but it's possible they didn't want to lose Clio sales, which were selling well in the UK in the mid 1990s.

They did sell LHD Twingos here for a short time, I think. A RHD one would look wrong

I've suddenly realised that my old t2 belongs in this thread. Although obviously built in '79, the last year of production it wasn't registered until June 1980. Legislation had changed long before it ever hit the road and it would have failed its first MOT because of the lack of a rear fog light. When I bought it I was told that a previous owner worked at Ford which explains the use of Sierra switches for this and a long defunct HRW.

It must have looked very old fashioned on the forecourt alongside the new t3/t25. I once saw a very similar t2 on a W plate at a Volksbash.

Something really weird going on with the number plate of the stretch limo.  A Volvo 960 on an '04' plate shouldn't be possible, given production ceased almost ten years prior to 2004.  A car checker lists the date of manufacture as 1996, which makes sense for a Volvo 960.

Could it have been re-registered upon conversion to limousine?  Odd if so, as it implies the conversion was done on an eight-year-old car that wouldn't have been worth much at the time.

Not my photo, by the way.  Nicked from here: https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&f=140&t=1563729&i=999999.

DID I JUST RANDOMLY FOUND AN 08 REG VOLKSWAGEN LT!!!!!!!????
image.png.c6baedac09c8d87d986e14a07b6c6a9b.png

THIS HAS TO BE THE LATEST ONE EVER!!!!

They Stopped Making Volkswagen LTs In End Of 2006 and start of 2007 Replaced With Volkswagen Crafters

Missy Charm's Volvo post actually reminds me. I was following behind a rather clean but giffer-scraped 'L' reg Volvo 240 'Torslanda' estate in silver. Looked nice with its body stripes and cross-spoked alloys but I think they had base interiors IIRC.

I know the 740/60 was intended to replace the 200, but the 200 was still selling well so it remained on sale alongside the 700 until the 700 was replaced by the 900 when the H reg was new, although I do know there were some late 740 GL estates knocking around on J.

That L reg 240 estate would have been sold maybe 18 months after the then-new 850 was introduced. So when did Volvo stop selling the 240s?

Excellent finds indeed. The Laguna and Micra are from about 5 years after sales ended, the Audi more like 9!

theres no way a Saab 9-5 Ended This Late On A 13

Out of interest, imported from where I wonder - where else would they have sold them in RHD flavour?

Japan, perhaps?

There's the odd Saab on the roads of New Zealand, but I have no idea if they were sold here right up until GM called time on Saab. Anyways, they're all RHD and I guess a migration from here to the UK is no more or less likely than from Japan...

240 production finished in 1993 I believe so L reg would be about right for the last of them, though I don't think there were many L plate ones

Didn’t manage to snap a pic as I was driving but I saw a pre facelift Hyundai Getz on an 08 plate in Bradford earlier, I think the facelift came out in 06 so definitely pretty late, though it is Bradford so I’m not ruling out the possibility of it being a plate swap Job

Extreamly Late Examples I Found

1998-2001 RENAULT LAGUNA MONACO ESTATE

The 'new-ness' of the physical numberplate on this Laguna sent my spidey-senses into overdrive, so I did some basic digging.

Unsurprisingly, this has turned out to be a ringer - the registration number is for a Picasso.

image.png.0c38536fedd098364f482be994487d78.png

The A4 is also a ringer - the details have it listed as a 'Technik' which is one of these:

image.png.b5103d8b11c10fcae5422e9b85bd6728.png

And the Micra?

That's coming back as a Focus petrol.

So, a full house of shithousery, hopefully these get reported.

2002 Nissan Micra Se 16V (Read Description)

That's fairly clear...

Problem is, you won't know about the Laguna or the Audi - you can't see the original registration number to confirm! :)
