Jack_Harpers_Teeth Posted June 3, 2010 Posted June 3, 2010 Saw this and thought to myself that once that would have been the colour of blood, the colour of passion, the colour of danger and now it's just bleedin' pink with age. Are there others which have had the lead taken not only out of their petrol but also out of their pencil by the ol' current bun?
pogweasel Posted June 3, 2010 Posted June 3, 2010 I would love to attack that with my polishing mop. Just as a one-off though, I'll never own a "red" car again...
ashmicro Posted June 3, 2010 Posted June 3, 2010 That's also what happens if you wash your car with fairy liquid, or don't wax it.
Claypole Posted June 11, 2010 Posted June 11, 2010 Nip back with a cloth and some Autoglym cutting polish and polish a nice strip on the door.
aled Posted June 11, 2010 Posted June 11, 2010 i did that to my mates car- but i used my mop and did 1/2 the bonnet then waxed it , back fired tho- he then got me to do the rest of the car . bloody red corsa did my head in
Milford Cubicle Posted June 11, 2010 Posted June 11, 2010 I'd polish some crudities on the door. PISSFLAKES, etc.
Owain-328i Posted June 11, 2010 Posted June 11, 2010 the paint is ruined, neither of those would polish up surely?
Station Posted June 11, 2010 Posted June 11, 2010 Just the top layer of paint is ruined. Polishing will only be a temp thing. You need 800 grade sandpaper. Even the whitest of reds can be brought back. Some say red goes this way because of the Carmine beetle used as red dye! Maybe about 50 years ago. Anyone have an idea why? This household also owns an RX8:
CIH Posted June 11, 2010 Posted June 11, 2010 Not UV stable so the sun bleaches the paint. I have no idea what that actually means.....
Richard Posted June 12, 2010 Posted June 12, 2010 Syph cream cleaner followed by T-Cut brings the colour back.
barrett Posted June 12, 2010 Posted June 12, 2010 What's the most recent car anyone has seen with this condition? There is a new-shape corsa at work sometimes with pretty awful fade, can't be more than 5 years old. Must try and get a pic actually...

Station Posted June 12, 2010 Posted June 12, 2010 When you scrape your nails on this it's like doing it on a blackboard!
garycox Posted June 12, 2010 Posted June 12, 2010 Theres a red/pink 53 reg Astra near where I live, on the bonnet you can see where there were stickers saying 'SAVE £3595' or something. Looks awful.
Negative Creep Posted June 13, 2010 Posted June 13, 2010 My old SierraAnd yellow falcons go whiteish too They end up pretty black actually
GJR 11L Posted June 19, 2010 Posted June 19, 2010 Here's some Kiwi ingenuity applied: That's pure brilliance!
bones96 Posted June 20, 2010 Posted June 20, 2010 just replaced the clutch on a h reg defender that was pinkish red while my mate was collecting the dosh for said clutch i had a go at the wing with a bit if t cut came up nice couldnt get pics phone was in the firms landy but the upside is the fella wants 2k for it so might apper on here soon
GJR 11L Posted June 21, 2010 Posted June 21, 2010 The Audi's got it just right! Badly oxidised paint and a missing wheel trim. Epic win, IMHO.
Mash Posted June 23, 2010 Posted June 23, 2010 There's a 56 plate Royal Mail LDV Maxus on the village run round here that is starting to suffer.
brammy777 Posted June 23, 2010 Posted June 23, 2010 Yeh, the Royal Mail chooses the best paint ever...for fading. Have a Sierra trying to emulate a BX:
