Facelifts we didn't get in the UK

Along similar lines to the Unsucessful facelifts and the Sucessful facelifts thread.  This one is for the facelifts that we didn't get in the UK but were sold elsewhere in the world or facelifts that never got past the prototype stage.  Good or bad or anything in between.  This is where to celebrate those facelifts that we didn't get in the UK.  I will start with the Argentinian facelift of the Renault Fuego where it continued to be produced until 1992

The 2008 Fiat Croma facelift.

Then again we barely got the pre-facelift in the UK thanks to them being hugely unpopular.

In a very similar vein, the 2011 Renault Koleos facelift never made it here:

And the 2008 facelift of the Subaru Tribeca after it took them a year to realise that the original was fucking gopping:

Thinking about it, I think all three are candidates for the successful facelift club too.

We had the Vauxhall Chevette.

The Chevy Chevette was the same car but received facelifts we didn’t.

Very late South American version with a Nova-esq front end!

Chevrolet Chevette DL 1991

The South American estate was called the Chevy Marajo.

Velopark [Out/2008]

And the USA had these.

Early.

Intermediate.

Chevy Chevette

Late.

1987 Chevy Chevette

There was also a bigger 4/5 door hatch later.

I remember seeing one of those while on holiday in Saint Lo 5 years ago, I’m sure it had “206 Classic” badges on the back but I’m probably wrong.

The south americans have a long line of this sort of thing

Corsa B, from 2012. I think we had two separate new generations come out after the B at this point in the UK. This one is apparently Mexican market but they had similar things all over Brazil and Argentina and such too, the Ford Ka has a similar lineage of bodging things on top of the late 90s generation over that side of the world

The Indian Punto Evo which seems to have been so well executed* it was restricted to India

I'm surprised the Punto Evo European version hasn't popped up in the unsucessful facelifts thread yet

In the early ‘00s Heuliez was tasked with revamping Zastava Koral and Florida (known as Sana in the UK). As Zastava was cash strapped, there wasn’t enough money for changes to metal panels, just plastic bits.

Koral gained PSA sourced 1.1 on top of the archaic Fiat designed engines, and Florida got a PSA 1.6 8v.

Many years ago I had a face-lift Renault 19. The lhd ones got this new curvy dash at the same time. We had to make do with the old square one - guess it wasn't worth the aggravation to tool up for the rhd markets.

I saw several of these a few weeks ago in Mexico City. They look like poor accident repairs of the original design!

We got the original 1310 (in small numbers) but I don't think any of these were sold here.

The top one reminds me of the mk2 Capri.

More like Fiat Vile.  What the hell is going on there?! 😳 One for the thread of failed facelifts.

The VW City Golf.

A facelifted mk4 sold in places such as Brazil, Mexico, China, and... Canada?

Volkswagen_Golf_2008_(15033460500).jpg

I have actually seen these trundling around in person when visiting Canada. They truly are vile. The back end is even worse. Imagine mk5 style tail lights that don't follow a single body line hastily shoved on, and you're nearly there.

Not quite, these were actually based on the Brazilian Uno, which was itself based on the Fiat 147, hence the clamshell bonnet. They did sell them in Italy as the Uno CS/Innocenti Mille etc but that particular Uno variant was never sold in the UK.

Every day is a school day. I got driven round Sao Paulo in one some years back. It had a 'fire' engine and a dent in every panel. My Brazilian colleague who thrashed it mercilessly and hit every pot hole said it ran on petrol or ethanol

Mid 90's later versions like those had a full sierra style dash.

South America got the original 60's falcon well into the 80's with Mk5 cortina grille, lights & rear lights in saloon form.

They got a Mk5 coupe but no estate the taunus TC 1 (MK3 shape) was sold from 70-80 ( no MK4) then they went to the Mk5 shape these were fitted with the north American 2.3 Lima sohc ( nothing shared with European sohc ) & manual Borg Warner T5 gearbox as used in 80's fox boby Mustang etc.

There were still a few of those knocking about in India when I went a few years ago.   Cars don't last long in New Delhi, so seeing them was a surprise.  Someone had a go at importing them here fifteen or twenty years ago (why?).  A local family bought one and it would occasionally be seen in it wobbling about the town.  I think the imported Ambassadors didn't last long in our climate, making them - ironically - probably a rarer sight than a real Morris.

On another note, the American 'mark two' Ford Focus:

I don't know why our cousins across the pond didn't get the real mark two.  They got the above monstrosity instead, which was the original Focus with a few mark-two-style bits grafted on.  That generation did get the mark two engines, which somehow makes even less sense.

My first reaction was "are those Mondeo Mk III headlights?" and apparently, they're not. It really does look like the front of a Mondeo though, doesn't it?

Still not the worst form of focus they got over there as well, not content with just that they then kicked it up a notch with this thing

Apparently under that handsome face it's still just the first gen underpinnings as well, not quite sure what they did over there to make them deserve these two works of art back to back
