Just a Few Pictures From Barnet....

The longer evenings have given me a chance to photograph some of the local autoshite. Two of these clearly haven't moved in years...

This one has a number plate that ought to be worth something...

Another apparently abandoned one; maybe a grey import...

This Sierra looks great for its age and is used regularly-nice condition, too!Posted Image

I'll add to this as I find other bits and bobs in Barnet!

That Mazda is ace and they do seem to last quite well - I reckon that could serve as a fine wagon for somebody on here.

I havent seen a 626 estate for a long time. Easy to forget they existed! Sierra looks good, I seem to never see H plate ones anymore.

And a few more from the delightful streets of my home town...

And another one of the same car. Odd to see this one's not been snapped up to be made into a trike of some sort! The tax ran out in 2006!

One more for the moment; this one's from next door... Autoshite is spreading....

Almost forgot to add this one-not from Barnet but from a field near a friend's mobile home (a.k.a. caravan!) in Sussex. I had a chat with the owner, who told me he's fitted 5 new michelins to it before it failed the MOT on bodywork, which, after examining it, didn't surprise me! Otherwise it's a decent example of a rare 4 X 4 Lada.

Reliant perfect for white supremacist with a Turbo fetish. That owns a shipping/freight forwarding company.....

Good handbrake on it though...............

I like the Cossack. There's both a Riva and a Samara looking rather buggered at a local shite bungalow but it's difficult to get pics, and I feel I may be eaten should they catch me.

I've been out exploring my home town a bit more this afternoon; it's amazing what you can see with a practiced "Autoshite" eye and a camera... First there's a lovely Toyota MR2, which hasn't moved for some time...

Posted Image

This dear old Morris Minor looks like a permanent fixture... It's amazing to think that this car (and the house linked to the land it stands on) have stood empty, in Barnet town centre, for years...

Posted Image

Behind it stands a car I can't quite identify. It's some sort of MG Midget/Austin Healy Sprite, but it has a weird hard top, and it's yellow. Anyone out there any knowledge of these?

Posted Image

And last, but definitely least, this great Ford Zodiac, clearly loved!

That Minor hasn't been there many years and was in good shape when it appeared. I don't think it has turned a wheel since. Pretty sure the yellow thing was a Midget before the bush ate it.

Were you walking around Barnet earlier with a Canon SLR?

I hope so, else lock up your children!

My nan lived in Barnet until 96, dad & his family grew up there. They lived in Wentworth road, then latterly The Croft, then finally Hadley Ridge. I miss having her there, it was a great base for trips into the capital.....and now I'm older (I was only 13 when she moved) just spending time exploring the area.

My new lady-friend lives in Borehamwood so I'm planning to reacquaint myself with the area again!

Turns out he wasn't - I haz a PM.

I have none to lock up, but if all my neighbours were to do so then (speaking as a curmudgeon) I would consider it a plus. Noisy little blighters!

Fantastic spots there Andrew, I'm always fascinated by dumped/abandonned stuff, always makes me wonder what the story is behind them....

Checked out a few of these online from DVLA:

Mazda 626 - tax ran out in 2000

Toyota Soarer - tax ran out in 2006

Toyota MR2 - on a SORN

Morris Minor - tax ran out in 1993

Lada - on a SORN

You see quite a few of those Soarers and other daft/obscure grey imports around Bradford. Not quite sure what powers them but I saw a half-barried one fly away from some lights once and it sounded like a sixer.

It's getting to the point, actually, where imported cars like that are becoming more numerous than the ones actually sold in this country.

Same with the MkI Previa Vs Estima / Lucida & UK MkIV Supras Vs non UK MkIV Supras

Barnet's proving an untapped wealth of shite, and this Volvo is REALLY good! I know there are many Volvo fans out there, so I hope this puts a smile on your faces.

It really is as good as it looks and is, perhaps only marginally cleaner now than when it first left the production line! Seats have excellent "period" covers, too!

Posted Image

Ticks ALL the Autoshite boxes; colour, seating, National Trust sticker, analogue stereo cassette..... All in all, a perfect Autoshite find only yards from my last crop!

Thats fantastic, nice spot! Has anyone been to London Waterloo recently and seen the garage near Surbiton with one of these dumped in its grounds? Exactly the same colour as well.

Out and about in Barnet this lunchtime revealed this....

Truly beautiful and being used to help some guy move house. He didn't have time to chat but I had a quick look-over and I WAS impressed! As a Commer I assume it's a member of the Rootes Group in some way. It did look good! Can any autoshiters add to the information?

Posted

Thats a 1950's Commer BF series van. Rootes group product is right-quite a rare bit of kit.

Bedford is a stunner! Top spot that.

2.5 twin turbo six....3 litre straight six from a Supra...V8 from an LS400 and a tuned V8

Mine was a standard V8

Lovely! What's that poking its headlight and spotlight out from behind the wall to the right of the Commer?

Posted

It's a Humber Super Snipe (either a MkII or III - the huge ones that predate the Humber Hawk shaped variety).

Been out and about again in my home town and found ANOTHER Ford Sierra of 1980's vintage. I feel strangely attracted to these cars; they represent a true modern classic!

And I think motorcycle and sidecar combinations deserve a whole section to themselves!

Will Post more later!

Definitely!

Very much a car of the 1980s though.

I like the old-style numberplate on the front.
