Airbag light fixed itself.

20240921_082306.jpg.fadc61818462c76f9a53dcba98f06aeb.jpg

I was going to pull the battery off and see if it would reset but that's saved the trouble.

20240921_083521.jpg.3b9799b3df5c896fed0d06bd73c61d68.jpg

So while the day was still comparatively cool I decided to do a deep clean on the windshield.

20240921_084509.jpg.cc41a40f663d7c956b107ec429167d04.jpg

That's clean and smooth now. Should extend the life of the wiper blade. Drag the razor backward over the glass and listen for clicks and pops as it hits the dirt stuck to the surface.

Took a day off from work.

20240924_151357.jpg.4b95d4ba9e31c6c75d0e93abdbaf1f05.jpg

Got the rotors turned. Very nice.

20240924_151401.jpg.a309af0f6fdba344a55c24995af52d71.jpg

Got the new tires mounted and balanced. Also very nice.

20240924_154405.jpg.b30fba89b87e0566d2ccd7130c190743.jpg

Reassembled the brakes, which for Jaguar, are well designed and easy to do.

20240924_155833.jpg.82766c873679d5f61a9e1e858a142bd9.jpg

Bolted the wheels back on. Happy with those.

20240924_162330.jpg.4e1de63985f78091c213a01c101028b2.jpg

Set the pressures, went down the street and back and re-torqued the lugs.

Ready to go, minus the aircon now.

Must be the angle of the photo, but all the centres look different sizes to me 😱

Anyhoo, well done for sorting it 👍

Wide angle lens, gets some odd fisheye effects.

Brakes are already better, which is nice.

Pulled the trim away tonight and discovered the PREMIUM SOUNDS.

20240418_173258.jpg.b571f97f84eff61c39643ffbcd45db6c.jpg

That runs the speakers in the doors. There's wiring for a sub amp. No idea where it is though. However, that can go on the wish list.

Light bulbs in the dash were a success.

Has anyone ever maxed-out the speedometer on an XJ8? Maybe someone on TopGear attempted it...170 mph.

Book says it's limited to 149.

Figured out how to remove the headlight assemblies.

20240928_190202.jpg.8942c85886a68c6ab65e70c5e92f550a.jpg

I wanted to make a better effort of cleaning the inside of the glass on the lights because they were hazy and would glare badly.

20240928_191728.jpg.f2fc61a263344915da399103596c5254.jpg

Rag on a stick, wanted around inside like some sort of carnival game.

20240928_192826.jpg.58da3eb9ad96e532079475ad2c985257.jpg

Appreciable results though.

20240928_193459.jpg.266dff5bf2b0b0e2626ba4f9808095d6.jpg

More light goes forwards, rather than being scattered now.

Other side to do next then I need to find some trim clips and refit everything back.

Time to finish the rest.

Bought a new trim clip and got the passenger side assembly back in.

20240929_132605.jpg.e511a6502e3e775edf381521d17380cd.jpg

Cleaned up the driver's side and refitted it all.

20240929_132542.jpg.9d78a3673d91b20462975d79dec61416.jpg

Everything works. Oncoming traffic will be happier.

Car has to prove itself worthy of paint, first.

Did a bit of maths and ended up buying the gauges, hoses, vacuum pump etc.

Going to redo the aircon myself. Vacuum it down, check it holds and passes vacuum the way it should per the manual, and get it working again.

What's the kit cost? I'm familiar with topping up as we do it at work occasionally but given the lack of local AC specialists it might be worth adding to the tool mountain. No doubt as soon as I did the govt would demand everyone buy a licence to use the stuff.

$90.99 for the kit, $23 for 24oz (~700g) gas.

System takes 20oz so digital kitchen scales will be employed.

Do I expect it to last? No. Will it be made from the finest Chinesium? Yes. Should it do for what I need? Hopefully.

High level stop lamp time. This one should be attached to the glass with big pads that it clips to, but that's stupid and it's broken.

20241007_124522.jpg.ec7c6cb83ae1d5e9895d25039fdf48b8.jpg

So I propped it up with something.

20241007_111049.jpg.0411cf76ab79138381ced63ebcdecf6f.jpg

Checked, and.. well, that's not all the bulbs.

20241007_121250.jpg.d405668beea041b37f3bf8c63b977268.jpg

Cleaned the lens up and replaced the burned bulbs.

20241007_121642.jpg.eaf1803c1c8fb25b0ce284c94a77778d.jpg

Much better. Happy with that.

Just needs the aircon regassing, and it's ready to go. It'll need an oil change soon also.

Wife is starting a new job next week, been waiting on paying out on insurance and registration until she's settled in.

Aircon kit arrived today.

20241010_161947.jpg.f99264244af5ca4a565a99d7528853ec.jpg

After work, I fitted the new receiver-dryer.

20241010_161258.jpg.d4f32e0be0add6fbcc15ba9561fb2365.jpg

Then, put the vacuum pump on it for a good while, which pulled a good vacuum as per the manual.

20241010_161731.jpg.09440996e32d8b9356cc5e83b6fcc047.jpg

Switched the pump off and left it sit. No change so out with the refrigerant.

20241010_165357.jpg.9e04ad200ef5fb28e14683ce9c29b860.jpg

Added 20oz in the end, with the pressure where the book says.

20241010_170917.jpg.0fdd3caf25da270bf0484cacc134e49b.jpg

Cold air from the vents! Very nice.
