Loads of rust. Loads of old filler. But damn that’s still a cool car👍

It deserves to live on purely as a two finger salute to the scrappage scheme.

Frustratingly, one of the contractors reversed a loader into it……whilst many would be miffed, he owned up, covered the costs of the parts and was hugely apologetic……… I mean, the dent is the least the problems now!

Will follow with interest. My Royale is developing a few bubbles here and there from past repairs.

I’m not thinking about them.

The mission, which I may or may not accept, is to have it back at the NEC mid resto this year.

I can neither confirm nor deny that this is a motivating factor in all this.

Giving this a follow as I like Monzas too.

Hopefully it'll not look as scary when the rotten shite has been cut out?

also, if I buy a spares car, it will likely be better than mine, so I Will end up needing a spares car, to fix the spares car , then give me spares to fix mine

It’s going to the NEC, welding not yet started……so like a pair of drunken teenagers who have just found a grinder, we set to work! It’s just been cut and inch away from where the spot welds are (which will need time to unpick), so very much more for getting people’s attention.

in theory, proper welding starts next week.

It was great to see this at the NEC in all its, er, glory. You were busy when I stopped by but I had a good chat with your mate.   Looking forward to following your progress.

I do hope my Royale doesn’t look like this underneath. I don’t think it does, but it too has had some work done in the past so it might have its own “sorry” written under there somewhere.

A local chap has found himself out of work and he welds……. Get ready for an almost unheard level of commitment!

it rains…..I mean biblical, get the Ark out rain…..so he builds a tent and carry’s on.

4 hours graft saw the the top rail of the rear panel cut out, templated and new metal let in

 

after 4 hours of rain, we decided that’s was enough.

Glad to see this getting repaired. Seen waaaaaay too many monzas scrapped for this level of chassis cancer.

I remember repairing the rear valance on my royale. 

No welding  - plastic padding smeared over card - the box from a matchbox 1/76 sherman firefly model kit.

Because @Talbothas suggested I’m slacking, well I am……but with the Disco now welded up, the Monza can start being zapped again……long long way to go.

 

But Talbot, if you want a Monza project, I’m sure I can find you one!

nice to see the use of CAD there.  It works so well!

Actually, I really don't think you're slacking on this, it's a massive amount of detailed work.  And no, I'm not really after another project at the moment.  But at some point I would love a Monza GSE.

Whilst walking around the NEC on Friday…….after sitting in the Moxy for 4 hours……so it was more of a sway and stagger……I had an idea.

 

i wonder if there would be anyway to have the Monza painted live at the restoration show, inside a booth, inside the NEC.

 

cwrtainly makes a change from the man repeatedly showing you an unsnappable drill bit whilst another man is trying to polish your shoes before the charity seller try’s to sign you up to save the dinosaurs

That’s it for 2024….

Believe it or not, that is also the hard but done! Now it’s a case of attaching the lower rear panel, the exceptional crap lower rear quarter, doing the arch and inner arch, the outer sill skin and fitting the rear quarter on the other side .

 

then a few months whilst I save up for the paint!

Best update this one too! Quite frankly the repair panels are shite. More time is being spent making the panels useable (without an inch of filler) than actually fitting them.

 

but back is now done and all solid, moving into the sides

its always suprising how much more car you end up sweeping up than you think you will! tremendous effort! i thought these only really went around the front suspension components!

Heeee Hooonoff to weld we go!

you will also note the rear subframe is down. Not because it’s rotted its rear legs, but I need to repair the threads holding the shock on, so taking the opportunity to do a few other repairs also.
