Most Peugeots from the 60s to the 90s float my boat.

And Vauxhall Chevettes

I'v always kinda had a hankering for a late-model Marina. I realise i'd be entering a world of pain but iv always likes the way they looked.

I had an Avenger when I backpacked round NZ nearly 30 years ago. I'd have another one. Bought it for $100 at an auction, drove it for 9 months and sold it for $250.

Bedford Green Goddess.

Bedford MJ ( the army type truck).

Mk4 Zephyr/Zodiacs

Series Land Rovers ( they just look cool).

Ford 105e ( dunno why as I had one & it was wank).

K11 Micra.

They all somehow give me the horn.

2001 1 litre Yaris, Automatic, Sat Nav, 5 Door and leather seatsĀ

I had a 1.3 manual one & only sold it because it was getting a bit crusty, the engine never missed a beat in the decade I owned it.

Peugeot 309, especially the facelifted ones.Ā  By the time I could afford to run a car they were deep into bangerdom!

Citroen AX, lightweight & understated design, the same comments above apply!

Ford Mondeo Mk1, they certainly did their homework after the Sierra & Escort Mk5!

Fiat Punto, which came in lots of fancy colours.

Vauxhall Carlton Mk3, my Dad had two & reckoned they were the best company cars he ever had.

Toyota Corolla 1987-92, the 5 door hatchback was quite fancy after the dull previous generation.

MaxiĀ  diesel?Ā  Yes, that's silly but my partner's well worn specimenĀ  was definitely ok

I had a 1300 Marina coupe (PLA--L) in the late 80's when I worked at a Peugeot dealer.

I also had a T reg 1200 Starlet which was so much better in every way so i stopped using it and left it under a railway arch next to work where pigeons promptly shat all over it and a tramp started sleeping in it.

After a while the dealer principle noticed it lowering the tone so I had to scrap it.

That said I wouldn't say no to a five speed Allegro Estate in that metallic green colour with quad headlights and running white 8 spoke steelies.

Mk2 Transit with black grille and preferably the chunky rear lights.Ā

But also its arch-rival the Bedford CF2 in facelift flavour. I know @eddyramrodĀ likes pre-facelift but he's wrong. Black plastic makes everything better.

There aren't any more badass vans, ever.Ā

I have a secret hankering for a Chevy suburban:Ā IMG_4870.thumb.webp.52cf86eb54bf2aaf2a6786e62e7e9c48.webp

itā€™s like a car and a van and a hearse all in one.Ā

It actually has a boot larger than Lichtenstein. Fact.

Think of all the shit I could fit in there, Iā€™d be the envy of the local councilĀ tipĀ Ā recycling centreā€¦.

@grogee I like how you found the LWB version of both vans there, but the CF still looks better with the steel front.Ā  So there.

Vauxhall Victor FE. Had one in my youth and now have massive nostalgia want. Trouble is decent ones when they do come up seem to be pushing Ā£10k.

Re the Polonez driving experience, having owned a couple (well, Caro's actually) I can confirm that it is precisely midway between said Victor and a Lada Riva.

Good benchmark there!Ā  I had an FE too, in 1986.Ā  First Lada in 84; last in 2001; Polonez 94-96.Ā  I went through cheap old cars like cheap socks in those days!

So you want to compare

with this

(I know the CF pic isn't the best, but the only one I found). There really is no contest IMHO, the tranny is the girl you want, the CF is her friend you end up with :)

I inherited mine from my Grandad in 1983. He'd owned it from new and being elderly he never went anywhere. InĀ  a moment of impetuosity I sold it and it got written off a few weeks later.

The Transit might be the glamour girl but the CF is the one that'll be all kinds of fun behind closed doors, and then make you a fryup before you have to go to work next day!

Wartburg Knight/Tourist. I've had a weird interest in them since becoming aware of their existence around the time of the German Reunification.

Cockroach motoring. I put my mum and dad in one (albeit manual pov spec) in a tight spot then sold it to perennially skint mother on law. Still rocking in the free world on a 51 plate. Absolutely joyless to operate in comparison to a panda of the same era, but completely bullet proof. Massively impressive things.
