Mentalists

Be prepared for every conversation to be about the same subject, my American friends are completely incapable of talking about anything else.

Best of British luck.

Can’t believe this is legal! Car drives really nicely! Way better than expected. Can’t really afford test day on track so doing a shakedown on some roads in the woods…

I love this! just for the sheer fact, that I bet especially with those wheels that most people over there probably just think its some sort of Japanese JDM import of some kind, until they take a closer look and probably go WTF

Shite racing. Everything else turns up on a trailer. I drove 60 miles on public roads and into our pit garage like a winner.

I vote for:
#19 on looks and #138 as the one I'd like to drive (it is also RHD??)

Even Gordon Murray hasn’t been able to do that.

The bumpers on that "Sierra" give it away as a US-spec Merkur XR4Ti.  Adapted and built for US consumption by Karmann.  Assuming it has it's original engine, it will be a turbocharged 2.3 Lima four-pot.  Bob Lutz (working for Ford at the time) wanted to give polyester-jacketed Lincoln-Mercury salesmen something to sell against BMW and Audi.  Needless to say, it didn't work.  I had one back in the early '90s, when you could snap up used examples for pocket change because nobody knew what the hell they were.

Rare as hen's teeth today.  And still nobody knows what the hell they were!

I'm guessing there will be quite a few confused Americans.

...but how can you tell which ones they are? 😀

I imagine it'll be a lot like the time the Top Gear guys put all of those "Man Love Is OK" and "Hilary for President" on their cars and they started getting stones thrown at them.

But less funny.

Is it all old European rubbish?

I was hoping for more solid gold 80/90s American shite, Ford Tempo, Chevrolet Celebrity, Dodge Spirit/Shadow, that sort of thing.

Maybe they’ve all been scrapped, even in the dry states.

If RWD is a must, old MX5s and various BMWs must get boring. Kudos to the team with the Merkur XR4ti though.

Yeah, no, very little American stuff this time. A solid turnout of European cars, a Lancia Scorpion and Volvo 262c are my faves. We are in class C with the most hopeless shit.

All of that 1990s rubbish died years ago when their owners, finally fed-up with substandard Detroit shitboxes, chopped them all in for anonymous grey Japanese transport appliances.  Terminally boring as hell, but they start every morning and don't shit the bed the moment the warranty expires.  The Detroit three couldn't compete, so they gave up making cars and retreated behind their tariff-protected truck sales.  If the Feds were to ever repeal the Chicken Tax, GM, Ford and the American outpost of Franco-Italian Leyland will be permanently screwed!
